Best Rug Cleaner in HP/Kenwood? Recommendations Please!

Where would you all recommend taking delicate wool rugs to be cleaned in the area? Is there a dry cleaners in the neighborhood or nearby who does a good and careful job? I need a place I can trust with my favorite old rugs. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Tracy in Hyde Park Lives in East Hyde Park

I've used Allegretti Rug Masters for years. They come to your home, roll your rugs up and take them away. Once your rugs are clean, they bring the rugs back, unroll them, and lay them out just as you want them. We've never had any problems with any of our beloved rugs. http://www.allegrettirugmasters.com/#2929.

Update: Jackson Park Dog Park

Added to the agility training course:
construction horse
suspended tire
cones

Many thanks to the anonymous benefactor of the bucket of fetching balls. I moved it all to the car, as balls go missing, i'll distribute them among the three Wooflawn dog parks. https://www.facebook.com/wooflawn Speaking of which, if anyone has any old toys your pup has lost interest in, please consider donating them to the dog park to give them a second life.

Driving Directions: LSD to Science Drive, go south on Columbia Drive beyond MSI's southern parking lot where you'll find the bridge to the tennis courts. Parking by the courts is free. The 'dog park' is located in the NE court enclosure. See bird's eye view => http://chicago.everyblock.com/pets/apr17-jackson-park-dog-park-6094931/photos/

Very Aggressive Bicyclists on Sidewalk

I'm having some problems with very aggressive teens and adult men riding bicycles on Hyde Park sidewalks and basically terroriIng the pedestrian.

Last evening I was walking West on 54th street near Blackstone when a ~ 11 year old came up on the sidewalk from behind and announced "on the Left" as he sped by. I called out to him "please ride ride in the street, not on the sidewalk".

Last evening I was walking West on 54th street near Blackstone when a ~ 11 year old came up on the sidewalk from behind and announced "on the Left" as he sped by. I called out to him "please ride ride in the street, not on the sidewalk".

His father was riding his bike in the street and he proceeded to shout abusinve curse words and threats saying his son could ride wherever he wanted.

It seems this is becoming a popular form of harassment, bicyclists speeding around on HP sidewalks, forcing pedestrians to jump out of the way.

    Pop P,
Yes, as an avid biker I have seen this. I have also seen pedestrians meandering in the bike lanes with ginormous strollers, dogs, & unattended kids that scoot around. Many of these folks seem completely unaware of their surroundings and don't seem to understand that competitive cyclists move very fast. When I walk on the bike path, I walk on the shoulder to safely allow cyclists to pass without having to brake every 50 feet. It's not very fun to bike if you continually have to slow down to avoid flattening a pedestrian. Let's all share the space. Common sense should rule the day! :)

Teens are by their nature, disrespectful, always a threat to cause trouble. That's just life, only time really cures teen troubles.

I have found the teens and adults riding fast on sidewalks annoying and think it could be a major problem for others, not really for me.

I have handled these incidents by simply saying, not shouting to:

"Please slow down or ride in the street".

The incident this week was a bit worse as the fast riding teen's father responded by shouting curse words and threats at me. I kept calm and simply scolded him for using vulgar curse words.

In such situations I recommend staying calm, walking at a solid pace but not running, now showing anger, hatred or any fear. We have the right to walk on sidewalks in safety and not have people shout curse words or threats. But, in the larger scheme of things in the violent, chaotic and down right mean greater City of Chicago these incidents are just annoying not life threatening. The police are better suited spending their time protecting law abiding folks in Shore shore and Englewood from real gangsters, killers, perverts etc.

    Thanks everyone.

Hi everybody!

Hello, just making an introduction. In case anyone is a lover or is curious about raw and/or vegan food, B'Gab's goodies in the experimental station in woodlawn/hyde park will be moving sometime in September and reopening on 57th street about two blocks west of Stony Island, right next to Salonica's. I eat meat and most anything else and these foods, desserts, smoothies and super fresh juices and everything are the boooomb. Check out their yelp, it's one of those gems you'll be glad you're in the know about.

Homeless woman at 51st St. and Lake Park Ave.

Does anyone know what happened to Christine, the woman who has been living under the Metra at 51st St. and Lake Park? A friend rode by on his bike last Fri. and saw the police there. Someone in the crowd told him she died?

Are public masks against the law?

I've been spending a lot of time in the restaurants, bars in the new 53rd street Hyatt Hotel complex. Lots of nice, new folks from all over.

There was a nice group of soccer fans from Ghana Africa, who were disappointed their team lost to the USA, but everyone was a good sport.

Them I saw something that kind of unnerved me.

A driver in a packed car was in a full Islamic garb with a very distinct face mask disguise. The person was probably female, but it could just as well have been a smaller man in disguise.

I know the nation of France has banned this type of dress and England has rules that official IDs like Drivers Licenses have to include uncovered faces.

My question is. What are Chicago laws regarding going around in public in masks? I doubt banks allow this. What about just driving a car. Police and witnesses can't describe a suspect in an accident or in a crime.

  • What about Halloween masks? Or full face paint at sporting events? Both are cases where identities are concealed in a public crowded situation, where harm could potentially be done to many people by the disguised individual. Are we banning those also?

Let's be realistic - there are a whole lot of ways you can conceal your identify if you want to. Hanging out in the point in your choice of clothing may make some people uncomfortable, but does no harm, nor implies that you are about to commit a crime of any sort.

As Brent asks, how many actual crimes are committed by someone using this type of clothing as a disguise? Speaking purely statistically, it's much wiser to focus the limited resources of our public safety departments on trying to control things which are are well documented to be used while committing crimes, such as weapons.

Here I'll point out that our constitution grants the freedom to own and carry weapons, as well as freedom of expression including how you dress.
