Any plans to upgrade the Ashland L station?

The Ashland L station is in dire need of structural and cosmetic upgrades; are there any plans to do so in the near future?

Child care options in the Sloop

Hi neighbors - I'm planning to enroll my son in a care facility in January. He'll be 13 months and this will be his first exposure to outside care. I believe I've narrowed it down to JTA Schools (Clark & Harrison) or Kids & Company (State & 14th).

Both are newer locations, but I'm hoping someone who has dealt with either in any capacity is willing to share their experience.

I've spoken with a few parents at each facility, but since this is a big decision, additional perspective is welcome. Thanks in advance!

  • Our now-3-year-old daughter has been at JTA Schools since she was 14 months old. She loves it there! There's a focus on learning, both through structured activity and free play. There is good communication between school and parents.

Reggie's Not a Place for Jazz

Went to the Starlight Jazz concert at Reggie's last week. Our first time at this venue. And the last. I didn't realize that Reggie's is actually two clubs - and with high-volume head-banger music being played next door during the Jazz sets, that's all you could hear! If you're into headbanger music, salute. But don't expect to hear anything at the space next door (and even if going in for a meal, you'll get blown out by the noise from next door).

Hi all. Not sure if you were aware but Jan from Jan's Antiques moved her business to Evanston from the Fulton District a few months back. Her landlord asked her to leave the space she leased for over 10 years. Not many people know this but she has suffered through huge inventory loses, a stressful move, major health problems and a car accident that totaled her car. Thankfully she and the other driver were not injured. She is without a car and has a loner until the end of the month but does not have a plan after she returns the car. I know this is a stretch and wanted to reach out to WL community to see if anyone has or knows someone who might be willing to donate a car. I would take care of picking it up and handling all the ownership paperwork. Even if you don't have a car ask your friends and family. It would be awesome if we could find a way to help her out!

I would like to keep this request from Jan if I can so don't mention anything to her if you know her or happen to bump into her.

Appreciate your time and consideration

  • Christian: Thank you for taking the time to help Jan. You should consider calling someone in development at Old St. Pat's Church. There may be parishioners willing to help.

I will spread the word. Thank you

  • That would be great. if anything does come to light please email me. cjsiegel514@gmail.com. Thank you for trying to help!

  • Just heard back from Old St. Pat's. They are going to check around to see if they have some leads. No promises, but they have a good network.
