Near-constant aircraft noise in West Loop

It's 1 am and we just had yet another aircraft of some sort flying overhead for at least a half an hour.

This after several helicopters circled this afternoon around rush hour for over an hour.

I know we're near the Loop and I had no delusions that this would be whisper quiet, but the aircraft noise seems like it's getting excessive - it's every day, starting as early as 5 am on some days.

Is anyone else having issues? Any recommendations on who in the city should be contacted?

  • chi techie...i think they voted it down because they thought it was too dangerous with all the tall buildings in the area and the strong winds by the lake.

  • Thanks, I didn't know how that turned out. A friend of mine went to the hearings in support of the landing pad, but I never learned whether it was approved. Most of the opposition was from nearby residents who didn't want the noise.

Police at Morgan St. entrance to Halsted/UIC blue line

Does anybody know what's going on near UIC and Morgan? We thought we heard shots fired earlier, but then heard no sirens so we figured it was a car backfiring or something. They've had part of the street blocked off for over an hour now and look like they're looking for evidence of some kind.

we do see the donations during MidSommerfest in Andersonville - they post how much each charity gets.

However I was given a very hard time when I ran the gauntlet of MidSommerfest people to get to Walgreen's (outside the gates) got my prescription and headed back down Clark where I live and got lots of shade from the volunteers about the "mandatory donation" to which I said "to pick up my prescription? I actually LIVE on Clark St". for the rest of the time I just used the alley and the back gate because it just wasn't worth the hassle and the really obnoxious comments - when I said - I live here I just need to get to my apartment.

Yes, you do not have to pay, and it's wrong that gatekeepers shame you for running your daily errands.

I have worked the Taste of River North for several years. At our training sessions, we are always told to politely ask for the donation while referring to the signs listing RNRA's charities. If people refuse the donation, we are told to happily accept and suggest they stop and try the food anyway.

Actually, many people donate more than the suggested amount.

I'm not saying all gatekeepers do this, but they should. They should be trained. It's a huge inconvenience to have a festival in your neighborhood.

Craving Beer in Greektown? Consider Tapworks

In a neighborhood where drinking options can be hard to come by, Tapworks Tavern & Grill (820 W. Jackson Ave., Greektown, 312-612-5898) provides a very beer-heavy (and huge) respite.

Experience with The Gardner School

Hi. Does anyone have experience with the Gardner School? We're thinking about it for our soon-to-be toddler son. If you do have experience with the school, how old is your child and how long has he or she been attending?

Also, does anyone have other pre-school recommendations in the West Loop area? Thanks!
