Moonwalk/jump house rental

Best company to rent a moonwalk/jump house from?

  • We use jumping 4 joy. They do have a website and rent a sorts of party equipment. They have always dropped it off early (the night before) and let us keep it longer than rented for for no extra cost. Ive been using them for years.

Airplane Noise

Why would you move in proximity to one of the nation's busiest airports and then complain about airplane noise? I constantly hear and read these complaints. How about just moving out to the country?

  • Some airplane noise is fine, I can live with it, but when I can see the airplanes from my couch in front of my window flying so low I can practically see the peoples faces, and they buzz the house every two minutes for hours at a time is where...

Some airplane noise is fine, I can live with it, but when I can see the airplanes from my couch in front of my window flying so low I can practically see the peoples faces, and they buzz the house every two minutes for hours at a time is where I draw the line. And for the people in Albany Park that are now suffering, the close proximity argument does not hold water, since they are a good 20 miles away. By the way, any comments that come from someone who calls himself Anal Dominator should be treated as a joke, and reported as offensive.

  • Hi Patty, we're at Harlem and Foster so not far from you at all. I've lived here 6 years and my grandparents before me were here 30+ years. I just think people make too much of it when we live so darned close. It's to be expected IMO. We have...

Hi Patty, we're at Harlem and Foster so not far from you at all. I've lived here 6 years and my grandparents before me were here 30+ years. I just think people make too much of it when we live so darned close. It's to be expected IMO. We have the windows open all the time and I'm more annoyed by the traffic noise of Foster than anything else (also to be expected when you live on a busy street :) ).

Giselle, I can't comment on the Albany Park issue but I find it hard to believe the noise can be that bad 20 miles away (even though Albany Park is only about 10 miles away according to Google maps). Your note re: "anal dominator" though... hilarious! I'm hoping it's really Ana L'Dominator or something LOL.

Sewer cover missing AND sewers need to cleaned out!

PS the sewers need to be seriously cleaned out, both street side and in the alleys. With the sewer cover missing the junk is almost to street level.

Preschool recommendation

I'm interested in sending my soon to be 3 year old girl to preschool. She currently attends in-home daycare, but she needs more of a school setting. We live in Big Oaks (Oak Park and Gunnison).

Any recommendations?

  • Hello Tim. I am in Big Oaks as well. My daughter attended Norwood Park preschool. It was fantastic. We also had a child at White Steeple in Norwood. The ladies there are lovely.

  • Patti o Neighborhood watch

White steeple preschool in norwood park is a wonderful preschool. The ladies there are so dedicated and committed. Love them!

Sewer Cover Thefts

FYI We have had a huge sewer cover go missing alongside the curb. Can be very dangerous for a child or anyone for that matter. Cars trying to park at night or who might just be driving by could encounter a serious problem. Several neighbors have reported to 311 and also the ward office.

  • C Ped Oriole Park homeowner

Cross streets? I'd be happy to contribute a few 311 reports

  • jack oriole park oriole park homeowner

I found the sewer cover in my garden on Sunday, some idiot or drunk threw it over the fence. I called 311 two times already, according to 311 I will be liable if I put it back, crazy.
I left it by side gate for city to put back.

O'Hare Noise Reduction Petition Link

I guess the petition didn't copy on my original post. I thought I stated you might have to contact McAuliffe's office. I'm going to try to post it again:

http://www.michaelmcauliffe.org/o_hare_noise_relief

If the link doesn't work, I suggest you contact his office--it's good to be on his mailing list anyway.

  • Not to be a "Debbie Downer" and all but when you live by an airport you have to expect noise from the planes flying in and out. They already use different patterns to offset noise to different areas so it's not constant but if you live within 15 minutes of O'Hare (like I do) you have to expect noise. I guess it just doesn't bother me much.

  • PattyC328 Have lived in Oriole Park for 42 yrs!

That position does not hold water with those of us who have been here since the 1960s, a time from which the noise level has multiplied exponentially. Not to mention the fact that the numbers for this latest increase in noise were all deliberately fudged because the mayor's office knew they were going for completely unacceptable numbers and had to fudge the stats in order to force what they wanted.

If no one takes a stand how much farther will they keep pushing it and pushing it over the coming years/decades?

Christine, my position until last October was the exact same position as yours -- the airport was here first, just deal with it, etc. But when they lie and say there will be 9 cargo flights overnight - knowing there were really going to be 54...c'mon! It is literally impoosible to sleep or watch tv during the night with a window even cracked open because the flights are relentless.

I grew up in this house. We used to have one plane every 2 minutes during waking hours. That is now at one plane every 45 seconds. It is impossible sit in the yard and have a conversation. That is a quality of life issue and it is not fair. Yes, the airport pre-dates my family's 1962 ownership of our home, but WE pre-date 65% or more of the current volume of flights.

Message from McAuliffe about O'Hare Noise

The following is the body of a message sent by Mike McAuliffe regarding O'Hare hearings on noise reduction.
Here's the message, copied from the email I got:

The following is the body of a message sent by Mike McAuliffe regarding O'Hare hearings on noise reduction.
Here's the message, copied from the email I got:

Since new runway patterns took effect at O'Hare Airport, I've heard from many of my constituents and neighbors who are now bearing the brunt of loud and disruptive noise. To make matters worse, families in affected communities weren't given fair warning or provided with the opportunity to have their grievances taken into consideration beforethe changes were made.

After listening carefully to the concerns of my constituents, I have developed a three-point O'Hare Noise Initiative that outlines my blueprint to provide relief for residents affected by the flight paths. This plan is designed to balance the economic vitality of the airport while fully addressing residents' health, safety, and economic concerns.

The McAuliffe O'Hare Noise Initiative

Order local federal hearings so residents of the 20th District can express their opinions regarding the true impact of how increased air traffic has diminished their quality of life and environment.
Initiate a comprehensive noise and environmental impact study to accurately show the consequences caused by new traffic patterns at O'Hare.
Deliver prompt noise relief to families through the swift expansion of sound insulation programs.

I strongly encourage all residents and local businesses to sign the online petition and take the extra step of sharing it with a friend or neighbor. Together we can make a difference and have our voices heard.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail me at mmcauliffe20@yahoo.com or contact my office at (773) 444-0611. Thank you for the honor of serving you in the Illinois House of Representatives.
