Gutter cleaners

Hello,

I live in Oriole park. Any suggestions on a reasonable gutter cleaner.

  • Claudia Cosa Linda 21 yr Edison Park resident

    Nick's All American Landscaping
Phone: 630 893 5296 - not sure if they are reasonable (for gutter cleaning) but they are reliable- they've cut our lawn for years.

  • We used this company a couple of months ago and were really happy with them. We had never heard of them before but they were professional, prompt, efficient and affordable. We also contacted Gutter Monkeys, but we ended up choosing Bubbles. Good luck : ) http://www.bubbleswindowcleaning.com/

  • I've used Celtic Gutter Cleaning for years, they are reasonable and do a great job. Its owned by a fireman who lives in the area and does all the work himself I think. 8473613062 is the number I have.

OP area crime

Appears to be an up tick in area crime above and beyond the typical garage break in or minor property damage.
We need to be on the watch and report suspicious activity not only to police, but also this site so everyone can be informed as to what to watch for and what areas are having occurrences. Warmer weather is here, so street activity will be on the rise.
Comments and additional info on EB posted crimes is also helpful, being that info posted by EB is vague.

The alderman and her office are useless

  • I agree. Good to post all incidents here. It's the only place we get this kind of news. The police "CLEAR PATH" site is rather useless. We have to alert each other here. People on this site are concerned and interested. It is surprising how many neighbors are clueless and don't care if it's not in literally in their back yard.

Airplane Noise

Why would you move in proximity to one of the nation's busiest airports and then complain about airplane noise? I constantly hear and read these complaints. How about just moving out to the country?

  • When we bought here we expected the noise, but not this. It's always been tolerable and we were even able to have to the windows open. Not even close, now. My foundation shakes, windows have been cracked (I am NOT kidding) and I cannot sleep anymore. It is well known now...

When we bought here we expected the noise, but not this. It's always been tolerable and we were even able to have to the windows open. Not even close, now. My foundation shakes, windows have been cracked (I am NOT kidding) and I cannot sleep anymore. It is well known now that the FAA LIED about every aspect of the new configuration. They lied about the amount of planes, the hours they fly (which is 24/7, there is no "quiet time") and the pollution generated by these things. I can live with the plane noise we had before, this is just unbearable now. It should be spread out to help alleviate the noise. Our once pretty awesome neighborhood is just going to turn into another trashy hood that lives near an airport. I guarantee it.
And yes, people are being affected by this all the way to the lake. Its not just the NW Side. And it goes as far as 90 miles west (where our camper is). For 17 years we never heard a plane out there.....now it's non-stop, albeit, not as bad as near Canfield and Talcott. Im ready to walk away, let the house go into foreclosure and who cares who moves in. Im done.

I've been here sense 1958, this is the worst it's ever been.

Beggars on Harlem and Kennedy

Anyone notice the new group of beggars on Harlem in front of the CTA off the Kennedy?? There's a whole crew of them, dressed in black, holding up signs, they only come out at night. They climb down the fence off the bridge of the kennedy, not sure if they're camping out down there or stashing their money...Where are the Police to tell them to get lost?? A few of them wander down Harlem walking North too...I don't want them walking thru the neighborhood!!!!! It's like they appeared out of nowhere!!!!

  • OParker Native Chicagoan

A novel approach, as long as they aren't hurting anyone . Why not put engery into getting them help thru Human Services, etc. or maybe offer them some food, a coat or something useful.
Sweeping the under privileged under the rug helps no one except those who believe that if people in need are out of sight they don't exist.
    Do unto others........

There have been people begging at the Harlem Blue line stop for years. I see them every morning and evening. They don't want food or a blanket. I know that they camp in the bushes that are at the Harlem entrance going into the City. Though I am all for being a good samaritan and helping less fortunate people, I don't believe that these people want the right kind of help. They want drug money. I believe they stay and new ones come because they are getting what they want. Just like you wouldn't leave food outside to attract rats you shouldn't give these people what they want. There have been a lot of purse snatchings in that area as well as other types of crime. People know where to get help, enabling to beg in this area isn't the answer. We've had more crime in our area in recent years. I don't believe we should encourage people by giving handouts at street corners. The City has a lot of resources to help these folks out. I think maybe cutting down the bushes at the expressway entrance and replacing it with some perennials may help with the camping out and not giving these people money will eventually get rid of them. Maybe the CTA can post some signs for no loitering or begging and post the address of a homeless shelter for them. I personally have offered my lunch and a sweater, no takers. They want cash. I also agree about calling 311 and reporting it as well as reporting it to the Alder-person. Keep track of all your messages and maybe the volume of the complaints will get something done. We need to be pro-active. While I agree with giving to the poor through organizations that help them, I don't think that we want the thieves and druggies in our area. Again, if they don't get what they want they will eventually go away. It's sometimes hard to give tough love, but in the long run it's the best way. Just saying.

Heating and air conditioning

Does anybody know an honest and affordable furnace guy? I installed a new gas valve but it needs adjusting and I don't have the equipment.

  • Al Air has been good for us. They are on Lawrence in norridge or hardwood hts.

  • I highly recommend Sunshine Heating & Air Conditioning. They are a family owned local business that has been around a very long time. Third year family generation.
