Got this from a young Black Man on Facebook, all you young black men we have a challenge for You...........Pull Your Pants Up, straighten out your hat, stand tall with pride, speak clear with confidence, stop acting like a thug. This "Jackie Robinson Little League Team" is like a gigantic light bulb of an idea that is grounded in years of tried and true formula for success in life. It is the difference of what you see in the World Wide attention versus the senseless recognition of getting your street name spray painted on a wall for being shot for who knows what. You want to be respected, you want to stop being a target for police, then stop acting and looking like a thug. Our neighborhoods are being held hostage, our children are being shot, and our Women and Elders are being disrespected and so this is my Challenge to you.....Pull your pants up!

Miley Cyrus did a cool thing by letting a homeless guy accept her Grammy - Emmy or whatever it was. And now the police are looking for the guy. The poor homeless guy was arrested because he missed a court appearance for trespassing. The media went looking for dirt on this guy and they found it. The next day the police were banging on the front door of the homeless guy's mother's house... looking to arrest him. Sorry to say, but trespassing is almost a requirement when homeless. So instead of the focus being on humanity and the plight of the homeless, the focus was shifted to our broken criminal system. We truly need a complete overhaul of the criminal system when the big news coming from it is the killing defenseless teenagers, and the arresting of homeless people, while murders and people driving around in white vans abducting little girls go free.

So, poverty and one of the highest unemployment rates in the country means nothing? Instead of blaming the impoverished and desperate, so many youth resorting to crime just to eat while unemployment insurance was shutdown after only 26 weeks by a millionaires' Congress, food stamps cut to $30 mo for disabled seniors, no housing options, no jobs programs etc. I don't feel bad for anyone who does not get what is happening to so many RP families, teachers, moms & dads doing their best to survive. And what this mayor has done to the police as well? God'll get you for that

Chicago can be a great city IF you're lucky enough to live in one of the better neighborhoods. None the less, why should ANYONE have to live in neighborhoods with open-air drug dealing/loiterers, a corrupt-do-nothing city government and on and on.

FutureexChi, I feel your pain. I too am trying to save up enough money to leave the state of Illinois. Because I personally believe that if I live on the Gold Coast, then I still share the city with the same person who lives in Garfield Park. I cannot live in a city this polarized. Innocent and good people are suffering and relief is not in site. If Rahm Emanuel cared, he'd put an end to this B.S. This city has lost all morale. No Pride in Chicago! It took a little league baseball team to win a U.S. Championship to give this city a sign of life. Chicago is NOT healthy and until the people in leadership positions decide to lead with all good intentions, good faith and for the best interest of the citizens, Chicago will ALWAYS be a low moral city. What has this city or state done lately that would make an of us proud to claim Chicago our home? Everyone I talk to isn't happy living here.

So I envy you and your choice move. I can't save up fast enough and I can't wait for the day when I can hop the first thing smoking out of this corrupt, gang-infested city. Chicago is a disgrace!

When will the lost souls of the streets please STOP killing our future?

  • Where are the job creation and wealth creation initiatives in black communities to combat unemployment and hopelessness?

  • Have you read Dr. Boyce Watkins story about Malcolm X and why black people in America must create their own jobs, if we are going to break the cycle of joblessness and hopelessness in black communities?

redlight theft

Why is it I can drive all over the city on a daily basis but the minute I drive on the southside I'm issued a ticket. Then when you go to 95th and Jeffery the judge doesn' t want to here it. She is even bold enough say that everybody in her court is going to pay. What can be done about this constant theft of the redlight traps?

  • Adrienne, did you run the red light?

  • Duncs you are so wrong when you stop because someone speeds up and cuts you off from completing you're left turn you get a ticket because you are caught in the intersection. It is better to get T balled because you have insurance and maybe you will survive how ridiculous a choice.

I'm Tired of this Violence

I'm tired of writing about it, reading about, reporting of it, being around it, this needs to be over. Thugs running wild all over the place, killing whomever they feel like, without any fear of getting caught, We have to take control of this or we will not survive it.

I'm not sure what you are talking about? The topics are separate. Police discrimination and misconduct are one issue. Poor personal choice and being involved in criminal activity is the other. One can consider each premises independently. Being emotionally reactive by making sweeping generalizations and blaming a very complex problem on one component doesn't make sense. Chicago has always had political corruption so what does that mean? You can't incarcerate your way out of the problem either. We jail more people than any country on earth and we still have a high crime rate. Perhaps looking at the problem from more of a multidimensional perspective without preconceived notions would be more constructive? Social problems are rarely solved with oversimplified postulates.

Jehovah Witnesses follow Jesus example of sharing God's word the Bible door to door. The bible is mankind's instruction manual. Jehovah Witnesses also  approach people on the street. Everyone practices many different religions today so prayer can't be forced on people . If people would apply the teachings it would be paradise on earth. To be able to ask questions about the Bible and then be shown God's answer in the bible is a blessing and you can know for your self. The bible helps us to know why these things are happening and if you believe the teachings of the Bible then you know Gods Kingdom is the only answer.

Standing Up and Staying Strong! !!!

I decided to add something to my 3 mile walk this morning. I plead the blood of Jesus as I walked the streets of Bronzeville for protection over the young children that frequent these concrete paths of the unknown. This community is full of positive successful people and each one can reach one to teach one !!!! Let's continue to stay involved , respond accordingly to the negative behaviors presented with the continued positive reinforcement that I have actually witnessed on numerous occasions with the Chicago Police as presented with their rapid response times to unfolding situations in the area!!!! • Yes the relevance of a person who maybe walked the earth 1000's of miles away and nearly couple thousand years ago resonates strongly with the ills in the neighborhood

Where did this problem start?

This shoot em up, wild west environment just started in my opinion within the time frame from when the CHA buildings were demolished, did we ever consider how isolated and conditioned that these people really were. This was a great irresponsible action to unleash this on an unsuspecting community. The incident at the Bud Billiken parade speaks volumes of the anti social behavior of all involved in this act, this genie is out of the bottle, the question is how do we get back to normal?

I often wonder why the Bronzeville Curmudgeon always using your post to write about his concerns with the alderman, politicians, and the University of Chicago. I'm not saying it isn't interesting information but it should be directed to another post. Please stay on topic or start a new post.
