Sammys Hotdog Stand on Division Closing?

The hotdog stand on Sammy's on Division, right near the brown line tracks seems to be closing. Walked past it today and it's all torn up inside and boarded up. Not sure if they are remodeling or closing. Surprising because they were open for business this weekend.

If they are closing that's good news, considering all their yelp reviews were 1 star and they apparently were racist against white people.

Michigan & Chestnut retail development

Does anyone know what is going into the building on the south west corner of Mich & Chestnut? The old Escada store?

They're building out that huge space now. Curious what it is.

  • O V

I loved that iconic blue clock tower; I sure hope they aren't taking it apart permanently!

  • A worker said that it would be announced November 15th with a banner.

Reminder: Meeting on how taxes/TIFs in the 27th Ward have been spent

Reminder:
There is a free meeting about how our taxes/TIFs in the 27th Ward have been spent and allocated, and more. The meeting is on Thursday, November 6, from 6:30pm - 8:30pm, at 1044 W Randolph St.

I’ve always wondered where our taxes were going, how it was being spent, and whether it was being spent on things needed, like parks, schools, traffic relieve.

The meeting is being hosted by Gabe Beukinga, candidate for 27th Ward Alderman, and Tom Tresser of the CivicLab TIF Illumination Project.

Atrium Village ??

Does anyone know what is happening with the Atrium Village re-do?

I know that the church-consortium that owned the complex sold to a big developer last spring. Recently there was a news article about what one church did with their proceeds so the sale has definitely been completed and the money distributed.

The City permits were approved some time ago. Are the buildings at Wells and Division being emptied?

The sale went through earlier this year and so the property is being managed by an out of state company now. They will be doing construction in phases, so only emptying one low-rise by moving people to different buildings and starting construction there. Then people will be moved into the new building and old ones taken down over several years. Construction probably won't start until next year...I think they've just been getting all the legal issues in order in the meantime. For example, my new lease had a clause about the possibility of being moved into a different building within 7 years. That's all I know!

Thanks. I'll be surprised if people want to remain anywhere near the complex while the construction goes on. I sure don't.

Boom

Anybody else hear that loud boom around 4am this morning (10/11)? It didn't sound like gunfire or fireworks, just one loud bang. Hard to tell where it came from (maybe south, near Division & Wells?), and no sirens followed.

  • Stanky A Live in the area

No news story about the fire cracker

  • DAS

    From CPD zone 4 radio
Most of the patrols in the 18th heard the noise.
They had calls in from Armitage down to Ontario
They were looking for a blown transformer or a gas explosion. Some units did bring up the fireworks problem in the area but thought this one was too loud. Maybe they have some new firepower.
