looking for kitties

I want to adopt two little kittens for my son and I, does anyone know anyone who needs to give some away?

  • I never said a thing about vet care. I didn't know you found a pet-friendly place. The shelter community is tight knit and it is a legitimate concern, in light of your recent requests for help, how you can care for two cats in addition to your dog, and mother, and five year old son.

Again, you don't know what you're saying, my family dynamic is not yours or anyone else's concern, but aside from that my mother hardly needs care she is a normal person who happens to be my roommate, therefore splitting bills 50/50 as most roommates do, and the dog is hers...

Again, you don't know what you're saying, my family dynamic is not yours or anyone else's concern, but aside from that my mother hardly needs care she is a normal person who happens to be my roommate, therefore splitting bills 50/50 as most roommates do, and the dog is hers so please stop trying to instigate something where there is no issue to be had. And as far as requests for help I have only ever asked advice on areas, schools, neighborhoods etc, nothing out of the norm when getting ready to move. So why don't you focus your attentions on actual problems in the world not a self sufficient, vegan, single mom, who not only has no problem providing for hers but others as well. And as a former vet tech, I wonder if the "tight knit shelter community" would like you deterring people from going to get screened based on your half informed assumptions, you make them sound like some kind of members only club that one must know a guy who knows a guy. I am familiar with their process and actually was about to get two kittens from them based on my current info, go figure, instead we've adopted two adults who were in desperate need of a home, and guess what we're fine. so maybe you should concur with your peeps next time. Again, stop bothering me. I am now reporting you for you are beyond annoying, good luck with all that

Flat Tire Scam

North Ave and Wood St

30s male, short buzzed hair, tapped on our car window and claimed his sister in law had a flat tire and that he was $14 dollars short. He convincingly says he'll take your business card/email and pay you back double but that his nephew is in the car and that he needs to get back to him. He appears to be flustered and in a (sweaty) panic.

We saw him hit up a business and then run down the street to a vehicle with 4 adults inside. They drive a red Pontiac van (last 4 digits of the license plate is 8694). Beware, fellow neighbors!

    Hi,

You should delete this post. You should never talk about a pending case on the internet or anywhere else. The only person you should be talking to is your lawyer. You need a lawyer, community support won't help anything if you rely on public defenders. If you don't have a lawyer, you can find pro-bono representation here: http://apps.americanbar.org/legalservices/findlegalhelp/home.cfm

I won't comment on specifics of seeing this group around the neighborhood causing trouble. WE also live in the neighborhood, some of us for many, many years. I see the same groups of kids smoking, swearing and even doing drug deals on the street I live on. The neighborhood has changed quite a bit in the last ten years. This behavior is not longer acceptable and overlooked. All I can say is good luck with your case and have faith in the justice system. I've known a lot of individuals who cleaned up their act from one juvenile mishap.

Silver Cloud Bar and Grill Closed for Now After Business Partners Split

BUCKTOWN — Silver Cloud, a neighborhood bar and grill at the northwest corner of Wabansia and Damen avenues that has served as a go-to spot for locals, industry workers and tourists eager to enjoy comfort food, has closed after two decades, it was announced Thursday.

"This is devastating," said Jill Levy, a neighbor who lives across from the restaurant at 1700 N. Damen Ave. and has been a regular customer for 20 years.

Ken Lubinski, owner of Lubinski Furniture at 1550 N. Milwaukee Ave. said in the 1960s the bar was called Pete and Al's because it was run by two World War II veterans named Pete and Al.

This article has 1 other Chicago location (Show)

Silver Cloud's co-owner Cy Oldham owns another bar in Uptown, Fat Cat at 4840 N. Broadway. She has two children and helps out with a bar her husband owns in Lincoln Park said it was "time to make more time for my family."

There Are a Lot of New Places to Get Tacos in Chicago This Week

For less than a dollar, get doughnuts at Stan’s Donuts & Coffee (1560 N. Damen Ave., Wicker Park, 773-360-7386) on Saturday. They’re celebrating founder Stan Berman’s 85th birthday with 85-cent signature glazed doughnuts all day long.

This article has 4 other Chicago locations (Show)

Open now: Acanto (18 S. Michigan Ave., 312-578-0763) is the new name for the new restaurant replacing Henri, and Billy Lawless’s latest will lean relaxed Italian with help from Henri chef Chris Gawronski.

Open now: Bar Takito (201 N. Morgan St., West Loop, 312-888-9485), a baby sibling to Wicker Park’s Takito Kitchen, will be less about the tacos than all manner of Latin-inspired small plates and seviches. (But there will still be tacos, of course.)

Open now: Even more tacos! Authentaco (1141 N. Ashland Ave., Noble Square, 773-360-7345), from Picante owner Felipe Caro, features house-made tortillas, aguas frescas, and dishes with huitlacoche (a.k.a. “corn smut,” a fungus that grows on corn that tastes mostly like mushrooms.)

Monday, August 25: Breaking news: There can never be enough tacos! Mercadito Counter (738 N. Clark St., River North) will have them, but also plenty of other Latin-inspired eats, such as gordita sliders, hot dogs, and a beverage program courtesy of the Tippling Bros. (think Mexican milkshakes.)

Moreno Challengers Get Earful as They Seek Spot on Ballot in 1st Ward

Meanwhile, in Wicker Park, Shaw heard from one frustrated resident in the 1900 block of West Potomac Street, who declined to gave his name but blamed Moreno for not being able to get a plan for a Trader Joe's on Division Street approved.

...from a campaign kickoff last month at Chop Shop's 1st Ward event location at 2033 W. North Ave., Moreno enjoys endorsements from several Cook County politicians and such groups as the Chicagoland Chamber...

This article has 4 other Chicago locations (Show)

Angel Alvarez, who lives in the 2400 block of West Haddon Street in East Humboldt Park, said Moreno pays more attention to residents who have moved in recently and donated to his campaign.

Hamilton, the 34-year-old Ukrainian Village resident who works as a lawyer specializing in personal injury, also heard gripes from Gladys Lopez, who was concerned about overgrown weeds in a neighbor's lawn in the 2400 block of West Thomas Street.

And Lucy Firov, owner of Amish Healthy Foods, said she was frustrated that her building at 1025 N. Western Ave. has not gotten permission to add parking spaces, although Moreno said he would be hesitant to reduce residential parking in the neighborhood.

Shaw became involved in local politics two years ago when she protested the closure of the police station at 937 N. Wood St.

Street sweeping

Well, it finally happened. I got a street sweeping ticket yesterday. However, the sign wasn't there when I parked on Sunday....and the sweeping dates, PER THE CITY WEBSITE, are August 27th and 28th. Any tips to fight this?

  • That's what I'm thinking. I know S&S posts them, that's why I parked where I did, because it wasn't supposed to happen that day or the next day.

  • Peter Zelchenko Longtime advocacy work many Chicago communities

As my old friend Mike Brockway emphasizes, you should contest every single ticket you receive. Go to theexpiredmeter.com for his information on how to fight these tickets. There are two parts to the process, the first being contesting at the administrative level and, failing that, filing a civil appeal. You have an excellent chance of succeeding if you follow through.

Sadly, these faulty information systems have been in place for too many decades and it's hurting good people. I'm supporting Anne Shaw running for alderman in the First Ward and if she wins you can be sure I will push her on this kind of issue. Many volunteer opportunities in this campaign, contact me if you're interested.

Home brewer looking for other brewers or a space

Hello all,

I love to brew beer. I currently brew all grain 10 gallon batches with a partner in Indiana very infrequently, and I'd like to change that. I lack the space and equipment to brew on my own right now (5-Gallon mash tun, propane burner, etc. which I will acquire soon) but would love to brew more than once every three months. Is there someone out there looking for someone to help them who has a strong back, loves talking about beer, and also has a passion for this sort of thing. I've got a few batches under my belt, and have studied brewing. I just know that actually doing is the best teacher.

I would also love to rent an artist space perhaps to brew larger batches in the future, after I gain more knowledge, and better equipment.

I'm just looking to connect with like minded people, so we can share ideas, techniques, and a few pints.

Cheers
