Prostitution?

I was sitting in the Sip and Savor last week and saw a black woman with a huge blonde fro leave 5306-08 buildinging on Hyde Park Blvd. She was wearing shorts cut up to her crotch and platform heals with a long coat. She entered a car with Indiana tags and sat for about 10 minutes before it took off with her in it. She looked like a hooker and several minutes later I saw another young black woman (20s)...

She looked like a hooker and several minutes later I saw another young black woman (20s) dressed the same way. Shorts cut up to the crotch, black high platform heels walking around those guys who play chess in Harold Washington Park. I have concerns about this activity in East Hyde Park. Has anyone else seen this kind of activity in the area?

  • there is definitely prostitution going on in Bronzeville. They stand on 43rd street late at night around Calumet and hit on guys.

  • Maujrej are you sure they were prostitutes, and not just dressed distastefuly. I saw white teenaged girls dressed with less (thongs and flip flops) walking around Grant Park. I know the stigma is to associate scantly clad Black women with prostitution, but that doesn't make it so. 43rd and Calumet... that is prostitution. There are other tell-signs aside from being scantly cladded.

Power outage 53rd - 56th; Harper-Ellis

Electrical our she spanning several hyde park blocks including Treasure Island and all other businesses in Harper Court. Come Ed is aware of the issue and supposedly working on it as of 5:20pm (Sunday 09/28).

  • I live on Harper, between 53rd and 54th. We weren't sure what was going on or how wide spread it was. We could see that the Promontory still had power, but were unsure of other businesses / homes. A little before 4 PM there was a loud boom and then we lost power. Happy to say we have it back as of about 5:30 PM. Hopefully the rest of the affected area has it back now too. Thanks for the update LeAnna!

Update: Jackson Park Dog Park

Added to the agility training course:
construction horse
suspended tire
cones

Many thanks to the anonymous benefactor of the bucket of fetching balls. I moved it all to the car, as balls go missing, i'll distribute them among the three Wooflawn dog parks. https://www.facebook.com/wooflawn Speaking of which, if anyone has any old toys your pup has lost interest in, please consider donating them to the dog park to give them a second life.

Driving Directions: LSD to Science Drive, go south on Columbia Drive beyond MSI's southern parking lot where you'll find the bridge to the tennis courts. Parking by the courts is free. The 'dog park' is located in the NE court enclosure. See bird's eye view => http://chicago.everyblock.com/pets/apr17-jackson-park-dog-park-6094931/photos/

Keeping a Close Eye on CPD's Glenn Evans

I'm not going to bore anyone with the details but I have (as well as many others in the 3rd District) witnessed first hand the abuses of power Commander Evans has delivered over his brief reign in Woodlawn. I'm not going to bore anyone with the details but I have (as well as many others in the 3rd District) witnessed first hand the abuses of power Commander Evans has delivered over his brief reign in Woodlawn. Now with a new commander at the helm, I'm relieved but only in part. With all the lawsuits and complaints against him, i'm afraid the CPD is going back to their old playbook, tossing him from district to district like a hot potato. If anyone knows his current tour-of-duty please let me know. I want to insure that his past follows him and catches up with him sooner then later.. As of yet, to the best of my research, he has been named a defendant in six different lawsuits over the course of his career.

DOG FOUND - Small black terrier

Hello, I was taking my dog for a walk this morning near 54th and Drexel when a little short-haired black terrier with a red collar but no tags started following us up and down the block. The dog was friendly, male, and un-neutered. Looked very thin, but otherwise healthy and in no acute distress. Long story short, a couple across the street is keeping an eye on this dog for the time being while we try to find where it lives. Please contact me at mkdjunk 'at' gmail 'dot' com if this dog is yours or if you know who it belongs to. Also, does the community have a recommendation for what we should do if we cannot locate the owner? Thanks, Michael

Animal Welfare League is one of the worst places you can take an animal. They try but many of their animals are sick with kennel cough and other upper respiratory infections. I was going to adopt a cat from there but she had an infection in her eye and the shelter refused to provide details as to how she obtained the infection and length of time she'd been sick with it. Their ventilation system is horrendous and have a documented history of poor treatment of animals. They mean well but they take in more animals than they can handle and the animals suffer as a result. Go to PAWS another organization if possible.

  • AWL at Wabash doesn't have an adoption facilty so you must be talking about the Chicago Ridge facility. The Wabash facility treats the pets as well as is possible given the situation - too many irresponsbile owners dumping their animals there, too few resources. Of course a No Kill like Paws is preferable but have you ever tried to give an animal to a No Kill - they all have long waiting lists.

Red Snapper Hyde Park

I just came from Red Snapper Hyde Park based on a recommendation. Ordered the buffalo wings and witnessed the cook dip one of the wings in the sauce remove and drop it on the floor and re-dip in the same bucket and place in the container with the rest of the order. The excuse given was that he doesn't speak English. Lost my business!

Landlords who allow 3 cats?

I'm thinking of moving to Hyde Park in the future and am trying to find landlords who will allow 3 cats. Most landlords who allow cats have a 2-cat limit. Thanks.

  • My boyfriend and I tried Mac when we had four cats, and they told us that their policy is two animals per unit and that they do random checks. Violating it could get you evicted. TLC also has a two animal limit. Your best bet might be trying the smaller management companies or people renting condos. Just make sure you have it in writing and read the lease carefully.

  • Anna F Longtime Hyde Parker interested in neighborhoods.

McKey and Poague have a few apartments. Some of them are condos so pet limitations may depend on owners. Maybe try UChicago market place? They have a section on apartments/condos for rent.
