These developers seeking tax credits are most likely building/rehabbing the cheapest available lots/properties in low property taxed wards and once finished are going to rent to section 8, which when you saturate a neighborhood with, will in turn developmentally arrest the neighborhood.

This Week: Obama Library Hearings - RSVP and get your tickets TODAY!

Public Hearings

Barack Obama Presidential Library Public Hearings

Host: Chicago Park District
Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 6:00 pm, Hyde Park Academy High School
Wednesday, January 14, 2015, Noon, Washington Park Field House

The Chicago Park District will host public hearings to receive community input regarding the University of Chicago’s proposed sites for the Barack Obama Presidential Library in the Washington Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods.

Locating the Obama Presidential Library on Chicago’s South Side offers a rare chance to reinvigorate the economy of nearby communities and make improvements for the area’s infrastructure and parks. The presidential library will create a global destination for learning and engagement.

RSVP to attend the public hearings. http://www.oplsouthside.org/get-involved/public-hearing

Chicagoans Pack Hearing On Using South Side Park Space For Obama Library

Our public spaces are not for sale and should be off limits to development. Rahm's willingness to turn our open spaces into spaceship parking and private playgrounds for the rich without public input shows he's not interested in what the people of Chicago want. There are plenty of spaces in many communities across the City that could have been used.

This is another example of the lack of meaningful engagement with the public on issues that affect the city as a whole. A mayor with a better sense of priorities and respect for his constituents would be leading the way on a comprehensive look at how Hyde Park could incorporate the Obama museum, a badly needed trauma center and other community priorities without seizing public land.
'Rahm's idea of transparency seems to be having a hearing at the 11th hour when the decision is all but made.

The cost is passed down to us consumers on top of sales tax, transfer stamp fees, etc. Stop stealing our money Fioretti. On top of that, we pay for the schools that the hood rats ruin, and our kids can't go to, thus forcing us to pay twice,

Today: Discussing Obama Library with Jackson Park Advisory Council

JACKSON PARK ADVISORY COUNCIL meets January 12, Monday, 7 pm at the fieldhouse, 6401 S. Stony Island.

UPDATED AGENDA:
Project 120 and design team will present on a FRAMEWORK vision and map and 4 possible projects for the park.

University of Chicago and Park District representatives will present and answer questions on the OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY. Friends of the Parks and possibly other stakeholders will also be speaking to the issue.

  • Bronzeville Curmudgeon Bronzeville Conservator

Attended that meeting last evening and found myself in a room filled with the vast majority of white people, in what I thought was a predominantly black community.

My perception of east Woodlawn has changed. Obviously the regentrification strategy of the University of Chicago from the 1960`s has worked.

  • Bronzeville Curmudgeon Bronzeville Conservator

    I asked the appropriate question?

If the University of Chicago`s plan to build a presidential library on 55th and Martin Luther King Drive for the first African-American president of the United States suceeds, will it establish the infrastructure necessary to remove the remaining lower and moderate income black residents currently still living in the historic Washington Park community?

  • Bronzeville Curmudgeon Bronzeville Conservator

From a historical perspective, can African-Americans living in the south lakefront region of Chicago, trust the University of Chicago to " do the right thing" for lower and moderate income black people?

Stop Being Stupid

All Black people, African Americans, are individuals, just as Europeans are, Asians are, Hispanics etc., etc., . Not every black person does the same thing as the next, as you would not expect any group to fit this stereotype. We have people who do things that are regrettable and reprehensive but you don't tie a whole race of people to their actions, When we are able to work around this stupidity we have done some truly remarkable things in some areas that are broad and far reaching, and not just confined to the entertainment field, so let's go higher in our conversation, and put this dog(racist garbage) to bed.

UICC and UIC Can Bring It On Home with a Unified Bid

A joint bid with UICC and UChicago should be a forethought. As each university presents its three sites for the OPL bid, giving the Obamas a total of six sites to consider when this is suppose to be narrowed-down process. Then why not add another? A unified proposal for the one site that can stack up against the heritage of Harlem and the waterfront of Hawaii that is neutral, vacant, central, accessible and panoramic .... the Michael Reese site.

Hawaii humbly acknowledged its interest in the option to have a internet connection with Uchicago. Even Columbia University has respectfully expressed to the White House that it would be happy to have at least some part the OPL as an option. [This just in today, UChicago announces multiple university collaboration for programming.]

Why haven't the two universities even considered the option of a unified bid? Is it just me, or is Chicago still so arrogant in taking it's chances that we will allow each University to maintain this all or nothing attitude? I get that the invitation is theirs. Maybe we forgot how it felt to be standing in shock at the Daley Center with our mouths wide open after the Olympic decision. People please! The universities aren't going to develop the OPL, private dollars pay for this trophy. Chicago Donors don't belong to universities.

With the upcoming plans for the future highspeed rail for Crossrailchicago.org, let's make the Michael Reese site the CrossTown Campus. Let's give both Universities a prime lakefront Institute on the Campus that connects to the OPL and effectively knocks this bid out of the ballpark so that we will "Bring It On Home".

Tune in tonight 12/8 at 8:00 pm at listen Live on WVON (1690 AM)
Dr. Carol Adams will highlight the Bring It On Home Campaign on the RhymeFest
Talk Program.

New School Ratings Show Mixed Bag, CATALYST // SARAH KARP
As Phillips High School’s football team recently made its way to the state championship game, media accounts went beyond celebrating the accomplishment in sports: The all-black, all low-income school was lauded for earning the district’s highest academic rating last year.
Today’s long-delayed release of the latest ratings offer a sobering picture: Phillips is the only school to fall from the top rating last year to the bottom this year and is among only 44 schools (7 percent of 670 schools in the district, and including nine charters) to land at the bottom under a new rating system. Last year, nearly 30 percent of schools got the lowest rating.
What happened?
For one, the district’s new rating system places more emphasis on improvement in test scores rather than the scores alone. As a result, more schools with low test scores, but a decent rate of improvement, moved up in the new five-level rating system. One example is Robeson High in Englewood, which had always landed on the bottom rung in the past but moved up a level this year. Phillips, on the other hand, had poor student growth.
Improving Phillips is more a process than an event, says AUSL spokeswoman Deidre Campbell. Phillips was turned around by AUSL in 2010. "We are expecting good things in the future," she says, noting that six of AUSL turnarounds were among the two highest ratings.
