Promontory Restaurant/Bar to Open Shortly Before the Apocalypse

Oft-delayed restaurant and live music venue, Promontory, is scheduled to open as the End of Days approaches, according to informed sources. "Our two outdoor patios will offer splendid views of the Four Horsemen as they ride in to lay waste to humanity," said an unnamed soon to be out of work employee. "Try our BBQ" he added.

Adrienne, I crashed the friends and family event on the 17th and have legitimately dined and drank at The Promontory two other times since the official grand opening last Wednesday. So far, I can safely say that it was worth the wait. Working my way through both food and drink menus with good results. As of now, the summer fruit trifle is my favorite food item. Eagerly awaiting the opening of the upstairs live music venue. Why didn't Diana and other people there of whom I inquired about you recognize your name?

  • I did not work on this project. My boss has several other businesses that I work on, on the commercial real estate side, but I stay away from the restaurant stuff. But I'm glad you enjoyed it! The first show upstairs is in August. I am excited too!

Good management company

My HOA is looking for a good management company for approximately 16 townhomes, does anyone have a suggestion?

Which building do you live in? It kind of sounds like you might be from Wesley just trying to save face I have valid complaints that I can back-up with emails that prove that Nic tried to bully me into not getting a second opinion from the vendor of my choice. Beyond not doing his due diligence in making sure the work under my unit actually was necessary, I have yet to receive an apology from Nic nor has he thanked me for basically doing his job.

To make matters worse, I've also come to find out that VanDerBosch recommended unnecessary work to another building Wesley manages. The work was stopped at the last minute (not sure about the details.) This should have been a HUGE red flag to Nic to take extra care to make sure our building needed the work, wouldn't you agree?

Nic's has since been at the hub of a few other mess-ups. I'm not one to keep quiet when I've been wronged and find it my duty to spread the word as much as possible so that other's don't get taken advantage of.

Maracas is open

A new Latin restaurant, Maracas, recently opened in Bronzeville. People should give it a try. I hope to stop by next week.

http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/28320016-423/the-312-founder-of-boriqua-chicks-open-latin-restaurant-maracas-in-bronzeville.html

  • Tried Maracas last week. We had the empanadas (? Spelling) dinner. The flavor was good but they may have been over cooked because the crust was dark and a little dry. The price $8 included two empanadas over a bed of rice & beans with a side of plantines and mango sauce. I look forward to trying other items on the menu. Time correction, they close at 8pm on Saturdays.

  • Juan from South Loop 13 year South Loop resident

I tried Maracas today. I had the Beef Steak with Yellow Rice. The flavor was nice and the portions was good. The steak could have been a little more tender but was still very good. Look forward to trying the Beef stew on my next visit.

Jazz at the DuSable

Yesterday they had a tribute to the late, great John Coltrane at the DuSable Museum located in Washington Park. Playing the Coltrane standards were Ari Brown, Duke Payne, Rajiv Halim, and a sixteen year old up and coming Iasaiah Collier. This was a beautiful concert set in the confines of this historic venue and the Musicians did not disappoint. The thought that came to me is that since we have bought a portion of Gospelfest to the Southside of town, why not Jazzfest? The bones of this great Genre lie right here and to bring to life all the venues where this great art form took hold, now this could be something. What do you think?

  • Bronzeville Curmudgeon Director, Bronzeville Visitor Information Center

Ray, we think that it is a great idea to host a International Jazz festival in Bronzeville!

Bronzeville Visitor Information Center would be more than happy to help organize such an event.

Do you remember the Jazz in the Alley events?

The City of Chicago is pleased to inform you that the application period for the entry-level Firefighter/EMT exam started July 16, 2014 and will run through September 16. This is the period of time when applicants can sign up for the exam, which will be administered on December 13 and 14, 2014. In 2006, the age to sit for the exam was 19 and the age to enter the academy was 20. We have lowered the age to sit for the exam and enter the academy to 18. It is our hope that younger individuals who get on the eligibility list will be motivated to attend college and stay out of trouble and will find a sense of opportunity about their futures.

Attached is the job announcement, as well as the FAQ’s, which provides all of the key information about the application process and the exam. In case you’d like to cut-and-paste the link to the application website, here it is: www.cityofchicago.org/FireApplication. The website also contains links to additional information.

During the posting period, applicants can call (312) 744-4976 or email fire-application@cityofchicago.org with any questions or concerns, and they can also seek assistance in Room 100 in City Hall.

We have also modified the way candidates can apply for Veterans Preference. Applicants may apply for Veterans Preference at any time, even after the posting has closed. There is no longer a cutoff date for the submission of documents showing eligibility for Veterans Preference. However, the later the preference is applied for, the later it will be applied. Detailed instructions on how to apply for the Veterans Preference are included in the attached FAQs.

Took a Drive down King dr. today, the day after it was repaved and wow, like a diamond that was just cleaned. The grass was being mowed and there was no trash and you could see that beautiful potential of Bronzeville on full display. With those stately Mansions in the background, and all that history starting to rise and bubble to the surface, well we should start to have that conversation in earnest, the one where this becomes the Tourist and entertainment destination that it is meant to be. There is a report that notes that some serious dollars come through this City and that arrow is pointing upward with an increase in visitors to the city. I think that we need to position ourselves for this obvious revenue resource, this will provide jobs, revenue, buisness opportunity, and pride back to Bronzeville. First we must improve the walkabilility of our streets, second we must highlight all the great accomplishments associated with Bronzeville. Crime needs to be addressed, loitering eliminated, any more suggestions?

  • Yes it does Ray...I am looking forward to more of them all over!!

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed has learned the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority has sold naming rights to the historic front entranceway to Navy Pier for $20 million.

Sources say the Polk Bros. Foundation has stepped up to be the first organization to help underwrite a massive rebuilding project at the pier.

Sneed is told Navy Pier officials have scheduled a news conference Thursday morning to announce the deal. Under the agreement, Navy Pier will retain its name, but it is expected the Gateway Park area will be renamed Polk Park. It is unclear how long the naming rights will last.

That young lady that you ran with yesterday, the one that came so close in the French Open in tennis, the one who defeated France's best tennis player, well guess where she was trained and is from, the Southside of Chicago. While you try your best to shoehorn another Selective enrollment school on the Northside of town, even naming this school after the no doubt about it Southside President Barack Obama. Today in Everyblock there is a Teacher asking for 400.00 for some books for her class at the Wells prep, some books, while all over the southside are these teachers with these same type requests and we wonder why this ain't working. That young lady you ran with could have easily been one of these countless young people that are gunned down daily, but she has been spared and look at the results. Where do you think Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Thurgood Marshall, Michelle Obama came from. These neighborhoods where these teachers are asking for this 400.00. You see we cannot afford to turn our back on any opportunity for genius, it can be found anywhere, especially in that classroom of that teacher who is asking for that 400 dollars.

13 Killed, 58 Wounded

These are the numbers from this past July 4th weekend, most of which happened on the Southside of the City. One victim a Mother who was helping to clean up the yard after the family barbeque, a car driving past, just sprayed the area with bullets, she died in front of her daughter. You read the reports of these shootings and you can make no sense of what is going on, so I am asking this question today of all who are concerned, How can this be stopped?

But, Salim Muwakkil, one our best African American writers has scripted a superb Chicago Tribune PERSPECTIVE feature article on Sunday July 13, 2014.

The article supports the Atlantic magazine story on the Case for Reparations and calls the question of accountability from established political leadership in Chicago about the decades of insidious conspiracy against the best interests of Chicago's African American citizens.

The Chicago press for the most part has ignored this critical story
