The 26 ward needs a new alderman

If you agree.... please take a closer look at Juanita Irizarry. I think she will do a better job of looking out for the entire ward

  • I think JUANITA IRIZARRY is the best candidate for the 26th ward.
    Here is her webpagehttp://juanita26ward.wordpress.com/

  • Sorry better link.

No way. Sorry. I have had a change of heart about Juanita. I was very disheartened to learn that she is being 'run' by another politician who donated heavily to her campaign. He'll just be pulling her strings. We don't need any more cronyism in Chicago politics! I'm sick of it!

Plus, read her webpage carefully, especially her past experience in public housing. She will just jam more of this down our throats in a community that has no jobs to support additional public housing just like MALdoNADA is doing.

Adam Corona is the one to vote for. He is not indebted to anyone and has a genuine passion to move the ward forward AND most importantly, to listen to his constituents.

Attempted car break in

Spotted a couple of guys (both African American early teens with short dreads) trying a couple of times to break into a newer station wagon parked on the 700 N. block of Noble St. at 6:30 pm. Called 911 and a patrol car drove by a few minutes later and spooked them off. They had been walking around the block a few times before going after this car so keep an eye out if you live in the area.

  • Colt, you may not have noticed what you typed: "Please call the cops if you see any black person roaming your area...."

  • Mr. Buster I know exactly what I typed... After the beat down I called the cops on these individuals and were locked up. Obviously they have not learned their lesson since they continue to roam the area.

Request a Traders Joes in the West Loop

I would love to have a Trader Joes in the West Loop. With all the construction going on, I would think they would have enough people to support it.

Over the years I have requested that they put one in, but was hoping others could also request.

Here is the link that you could fill out if you would like one around here:

http://www.traderjoes.com/contact-us/location-request

In the comments put in west loop/near west side/greektown, etc.

Thanks!

But one thing that plays against the West Loop is the lack of density. People may personally like or dislike tall towers and density, but from TJ's point of view, they want in a very dense area where they'll have a geographically dedicated customer base right there.

Think about some of the other locations, like Clybourn, on the one in Oak Park where they have a tower above....the South Loop one, which is near dozens of tall residential buildings....and so on.

West Loop residents and community organizations have fought density. (I am not saying this is good or bad - people have various opinions on it, but pushback HAS happened.)

The best place for a potential TJ's would have been in the tower where Dominick's was and where Whole Foods is now going to open (next month, from what I've heard). I'm glad WF is going there, but that might have been better as a TJ's spot, since right now, in TJ's eyes, there's probably not another West Loop space that makes sense for them.

We do have a few new towers that went up or are going up, so maybe one will come in the next few years....but that's what they're looking for, for sure.

(I wish the new building near the Target was a TJ's - that would be so convenient.)

  • Thanks PJChgo...I do think the old Dominicks would have been much more conducive as a TJs. About the size that they are..where a WF's seems to be bigger than that space.

But you are probably right about the density. I am one that isn't in favor of the tall buildings. So I guess I can't have it both ways.

TJs can always go into the Artista Foods space on May..wonder how they stay in business?

I just received a very strange call that I'm not sure what to make of. A man, who sounded black, very angry, said that I scratched his car and that I left my phone number on his car. For the record, I did not scratch anyone's car and I did not leave my phone number on anyone's car. When I started to explain that I did not scratch his car or leave my phone number on his car, his anger escalated. I just hung up. He has not called back (so far).

Not even sure if I should report this to the police. Is this some sort of a scam? The phone number he was calling from is (312) 423-1221.
