The reason for the placement of a Blue Star Memorial in Wildwood Park is twofold. The first is that Wildwood Park is where the Edgebrook community has its annual Fourth of July picnic and the second is that there are two Marines (Patrick Scully and Peter Strategos) from North Edgebrook/Wildwood who were KIA in Viet Nam.

The campaign for a Blue Star Memorial in Wildwood Park has reached the second stage which is the collection of letters of recommendations as per Chicago Park District Senior Counsel Joseph Bornstein: “You'll need to present letters showing broad based community support for your project. This may include letters from local community groups and most importantly the Park Advisory Council for Wildwood Park.”

The web site for the for Blue Star Memorial is here http://www.gardenclub.org/projects/ongoing-projects/blue-star-memorials.aspx

Dennis - I've got 2 letters I'm working on... One from the ECA and the other from my American Legion Post. Timing of meetings since we last emailed is the delay.

  • Hello Jac,

Great!! I'll wait on those letters.

What is Slow Art Day?
Slow Art Day is a global all-volunteer event with a simple mission: help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art. One day each year – April 11 in 2015 – people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over lunch to talk about their experience. That’s it. Simple by design, the goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing.

At the NVAM
We’re proud to host Slow Art Day 2015 as part of our mission to inspire a greater understanding of the real impact of war through art created by veterans. Five specially selected artworks from the permanent collection will be on display for participants to view and contemplate. Discussion of the artworks and art appreciation will take place at noon. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and join in on the conversation.

Chuy for Mayor! Correction

My mistake. But my point is not so much where Emanuel was born as to his being primarily raised on the North Shore. His privileged upbringing along with amassing a 16 million dollar fortune within a two year period has distanced him both financially and mentally from what the average Chicago citizen endures on a daily basis. Which is part of the reason why he is so quick to have citizens bear the brunt of the cost of his programs and pet projects, such as the 140 million dollars to DePaul University while Chicagoans struggle with parking fines, red light/speed camera fines, ever increasing utility fees and property tax increases.

rogerparker, You want to talk about benefits, let's talk about Emanuel's benefits. Like when he earned 16 million dollars in 2 years as an investment banker even though he hardly had any experience in that field. Oh wait a minute, he did have experience in that field, kinda, like when he was a well paid director of scandal plagued Fredie Mac, which again was a job his resume was really not suited for. But hey with his connections the world is your oyster. Only trouble is, his connections aren't doing much for Chicago, although they certainly are fattening his recently 30 million dollar campaign war chest! Garcia's connection pales in comparison to Emanuel's connections. For more about them read:

    http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2011/02/rahm_emanuel_2.html

  • Mr Garcia is the focus of Chicago voters dissatisfaction with Blue dog Dems. He, like former U.S. Representative Michael Patrick Flanagan,is in the right place at the right time.

“100 Faces of War” - Portraits and words of Americans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The exhibition will be on view from November 11, 2014 through May 1, 2015 at the National Veterans Art Museum and will be the first time the exhibit will shown in its entirety.

This exhibition is to be a place of open contemplation upon the American experience of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These portraits represent a cross section of the American experience of these wars and the statements of the people pictured reveal a candid, unedited understanding of our recent history. Nine years in the making, 100 Faces was created by Artist Matt Mitchell. Each portrait represents a part of the American statistics of these wars and comes out of a personal meeting between the artist and the person pictured. For posthumous portraits the artist worked with the family and the words are provided by the family.

Opening Reception, Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2014, from 3pm -7pm. The opening reception is free and open to the public.

Chuy For Mayor!

Rahm Emanuel is a multimillionaire, suburban born and bred arrogant, elitist who no more cares about Chicago, it's citizens, employees and least it's retirees than the man in the moon. Rahm Emanuel is a multimillionaire, suburban born and bred arrogant, elitist who no more cares about Chicago, it's citizens, employees and least it's retirees than the man in the moon. He'll have moved on in 4 years leaving a path of destruction in his place while enhancing his reputation on the national stage. He already is eliminating health insurance for retirees and if the courts allow it his next target will be the pensions of thousands and thousands of workers. Mayor Daley destroyed the financial solvency of this city and Emanuel has done nothing but dig a deeper hole. Through back room deals he give millions of City money to his fat cat billionaire friends and proposes to give 1 billion dollars to DePaul University to fund the building of a new arena, while he bleeds the citizens dry with red light cameras, skyrocketing parking fees and soon I'm sure, huge property tax increases

  • TeamGarrido tries these same rumors for the fourth, fifth, sixth time?
Are the TeamGarrido All-Stars tiring of being asked to repeatedly lie?

  • I like Rahm, He's been there for me when I needed him.

Mar 21

Correction to an earlier post regarding Rahm Emanuel.

The amount of City money that Emanuel is providing regarding the DePaul project is $140 million not $1 billion.

What are the rules about an Alderman using City Vehicles to Campaign?

Does anyone know the laws about an Alderman using a city vehicle driven by a city employee to get to a political event? This video appears to show Alderman Mary O'Connor arriving at the Northwest Side Irish Parade in a City Vehicle driven by a City Employee. Did tax payers pay for the gas or the employees time? Does anyone know if she broke the law here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXynsbpXhng

  • Interesting how this very same topic was also on facebook on the 41st Ward citizens blog. Also on the blog was the topic about Napolitano using city equipment for political purposes all because he has a picture on his mailer of himself in his CFD uniform in front of a fire engine. The owner of the page didn't like that I disagreed with his/her take on either so called abuse of city property and has blocked me from commenting on any more posts.

  • Your question should be did Rahm get driven to a parade by a team of much higher paid city employees? And in a very expensive city vehicle? At least in this case the city employee was already working the parade and probably picked her up close by in the ward. Not a big deal and i am sure not an ethics violation. Worry about the important things will ya. By the way i am a supporter of her opponent.
