The second workshop at the National Veterans Art Museum will explore the roots of poetry and hip hop in the context of African American History Month.

Melvin Lyons will be leading the workshop along with NVAM staff and volunteers. All are welcome! This workshop is free and open to the public.

Mel L. is a hip hop artist with The Microphone Misfitz and a Marine Corps veteran. Join us for a two-hour emcee workshop exploring the hip hop voice from a veteran's view on Saturday, February 28th, from 1-3 PM.

The art of emceeing is said to date back centuries and is cited as having roots in performative African poetry. This workshop will discuss the history of emceeing, how to move the crowd using the words and presence and how this can help veterans. Topics explored will include how to rhyme, different ways to structure a verse, what flow is and how to use it, and what writing techniques can be used.

Located at 4041 N. Milwaukee Avenue, 2nd floor, Chicago.

Unfortunately the message category is an EB "field" that is required, but there is no corresponding category although there certainly should be.

I've always wondered about this particular issue, but try as I may have been unable to turn up an answer. If you are muted by another user/poster and that user's/poster's account is terminated by EB, is the number of times you have been muted get reduced accordingly? When an account is no longer active, mutes from an "inactive user" should no longer be tallied since such mutes are no longer applicable. If this is not automatically done, it is a feature that should be implemented by EB. I hope a moderator will chime in and shed some light on this issue.

had to work within the limitations imposed by EveryBlock. It is difficult to determine where to even post this. Chicago-wide would be OK, but that is not an option. It would also be helpful if there was an applicable category, but there isn't. Then a URL (link) is required, but this applies to all of EB so I use the home page link (www.everyblock.com)

There are users/posters who have violated EB community guidelines and consequently had their accounts terminated. A mute count from an inactive user is irrelevant. When a user's/poster's account is terminated, all EB users who have been muted should have their mute count adjusted/reduced accordingly. I put in a request to have this feature implemented. I received an email from an EB feedback staff member who indicated that they passed my suggestion onto the EB development team.
