Orthodontist Recommendation for adult

I'm looking for recommendations for orthodontists that work with adults. Or any to avoid. I'm most interested in the effectiveness of their work but any information is appreciated. North side of the city or Evanston/Skokie are the ideal locations. Thanks in advance.

  • K in North Center parent and small-business owner

I second the recommendation for Jacobson (now Jacobson Tsou):

I third Jacobson Tsou. They do have many child patients, but also care for adults.

So, what's going happening on Waveland and Sheffield outside Wrigley?

Last week, they put up barricades along the sidewalks on the west side of Sheffield and the south side of Waveland. And they took out a lane of parking on both streets, too, redrawing lanes for vehicular traffic. The "no parking" signs posted only go through Sept. 30.

Anybody have any idea what's going on here?

Oh I am not complaining about the improvements. I too welcome them. I just don't think the public should be footing the bill for a private entity. The Ricketts (who are billionaires) originally asked the city and state for public money to fix their private property. Thankfully, the state and city said no (wish they would have said no when the Sox built that monstrosity on the South Side). I also don't think the taxpayers should be footing the bill to build an arena for DePaul in the South Loop (or a stupid hotel next to it).

My only complaint in this post is who is paying for the utility relocation work? Because it should be the Cubs.

I love Wrigley Field and I can't wait to see the improvements. Hopefully, they will lead to a better product on the field as well.

Unfortunately, the model of cities supporting professional sports has been long standing and with the Rickett's they are tackling a majority if not nearly all costs minus public funding. They couold argue that every other city would have open arms to have the Cubs with an open check book yet they have not.

That said, we should not be overly flexible with our public pocket book but just the same, if the City is footing the bill on utilities I actually would not complain because it is a small percentage considering the massive cost of this rehab overall.

The DePaul project I am against. Where is the logic to build a venue like this that has no train access to the property? Students and student life benefit from a venue like this when it is on campus and or commuter friendly. All they are doing is reeling it in from the burbs (previous location) with a purpose of serving another need not DePaul and the sport's program. Who you kidding Mayor!

Methadone clinic!

Yesterday, there are flyers going around in the neighborhood concerning a new methadone clinic being opened on Belmont Ave. and Oakley .I called the 32nd Ward office and confirmed this. This is not a rumor but a fact. I don't understand this type of business being allowed before asking the residents first. Not saying that people don't deserved to be helped but maybe in a medical district might be an appropriate setting. Also I understand that the State is responsible for allowing this zoning regulation to happen. This makes me very nervous , be aware.

Hard Candy Source?

I've recently developed a liking for hard candy. Do you know of a store that offers a good variety? I mostly shop at Jewel and Whole Foods, and they seem to concentrate on chocolates and chewy candies, with just a sampling of hard candies. Now I'm interested in branching out a bit.

Hey Guys,

On May 2nd, I was moving a bunch of stuff back home and I decided to stop by a friends place about 11 PM that night (Friday).

The Van, a Mercury Villager 1995 which was the vehicle I was driving, was parked on the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Brompton. It was full of my belongings including a Guitar, Amp and a bunch of sneakers. Because of the fact that I parked on lakeshore drive in front of that condo building (Where my friend lives), I had a sense of security so I fell asleep. Unfortunately, I woke up the next day around 6AM to only walk outside and see that my Van was missing. I looked everywhere, checked every pound and had no luck what so ever. I was hoping that the city moved it so I waited at Recreation drive to see if my van would arrive and it didn't. Like an Idiot, I should've just went home and unloaded but after a long day of moving, I was done. Lesson Learned? Absolutely but if anyone could help with any leads, that would be greatly appreciated. Attached is a photo of the Van.

Be careful, Lakeview is starting to become a hot spot for shady business. I went to a few buildings to see if they saw anything and they all shared stories of auto thefts, break ins around that area.

  • Shelly Lifelong suburbanite, now in South Lakeview.

Oscar, I'm glad you already reported it stolen to authorities and have been checking sites! I was curious since you waited almost 4 months to post on here! Good luck!

  • Philip Independent Business owner ,47th. ward since 1968

It's probably too late now , but if you could have checked the buildings security cameras or others in the neighborhood you may have seen if it was towed by away possibly not by the CPD. Some car thieves use tow vehicle's . Big story on the news a while back about a scrap yard found with many stolen cars on property being brought in by private pirates , I mean tow trucks. Security cameras are everywhere .

This is my shameless plug of a local business but its honest. Try and stop by when you can. Its worth it. They are near Cooper's restaurant. across from the Wit Theater and Theatre 773.

Bikes Stolen from Closed Garage!

Hello all, Mine and my husband's bikes were stolen last night from our closed/locked, private garage which opens to alley. We've filed a police report, listed it on chicago.stolenbike.org, bikeindex.org, and posted to FB, Twitter, Find Stolen Bikes (Chicago), SBR Chicago.
New Men's Cannondale Synapse 6 Tiagra 2013 Black Road Bike (black frame, white lettering, drop handlebars, clipless pedals, front/rear LED lights)
Women's Trek 7.5 FX WSD 2010 Satin Cherry Red Hybrid Bike (red frame, white lettering, flat handlebars, rear fender only, front/rear LED lights, bell on left handle, missing wheel reflectors)
Please keep an eye out for these two bikes and message me with news/advice! Thank you so much!

Bike thefts seem to be picking up (or at least getting more brazen) in the neighborhood - my Fuji SL1 Pro (red/black/white) was stolen on 8/8 from behind a locked gate in our back ally (Surf & Broadway). More than 1 person must have been involved to jump the gate and lift the bike up and over it. The bike is never parked there and was stolen between 9 PM and 9 AM friday night - someone was clearly out looking for items to steal - with flashlights looking into locked and gated areas. I filed a police report, stolen bike registry (local and national), etc. I wish the police had the ability to pay more attention to bike thefts - this bike was worth more than what I sold my past used car for. It's grand theft. It also seems to go with the broken windows theory... if they can get away with bike thefts or car breakins on a regular basis, what's next?

  • Deb

We have had our bikes and our kids bikes stolen a few times. We now lock our bikes inside our garage. It was a bit of a hassle installing a bike rack into the wall of our garage and it's a pain to have to lock our bike each time we use it but we've gone a couple years now without our bikes being stolen.

Looking for a Cabin Rental by a lake

The Hubby and I need to get outta here. Google and Bing has been no help as there are a TON of listings and getting thru them is just a pain. We want a semi private cabin with a bathroom where we can kick off our shoes and relax. Nothing over $120 a night. I figure someone here has got to know of a place. It will be just the two of us.

I adopted a rabbit form Red Door Animal Shelter that the sanitation dept had found in the garbage. There is a very big difference between those you'll find in the wild and those that were breed to be pets so as Louise said if can capture safely the Red Door will take the poor thing!

"You are absolutely right! Everyone is getting behind the new principal.

On Saturday, August 23rd, about 70 people; neighbors, parents, grandparents, teachers, students, community members (including a dozen from Graceland West, the immediate neighborhood) and leaders from several other neighborhood organizations, the LVHS LSC, Alderman Pawar and others joined Principal Scott Grens for the Lake View High School Beautification Day. Rep. Ann Williams and Friends of Ameya Pawar (PAC) donated the paint. Lake View Partners, the newly launched non-profit to support Lake View and Grow 47, Alderman Pawar's initiative for schools sponsored the event.

Volunteers were organized into small teams and then painted the interior front entrance, library and several other rooms, moved in new equipment and furniture, cleaned all the lockers, removed any remaining tape left over from the prior school year, washed windows, moved landscaping stones and more. There were about 20 major projects. The school was already gleaming when volunteers started and the finishing touches just made everything even more welcoming for students, faculty and administrators.

Everyone, students, faculty, staff, neighbors, elected officials worked together for four hours then met up for lunch. Great effort. Great results. Great community teamwork.

A BIG THANKS to everyone who helped.

Thanks also to those who participated in the LVHS Architectural Tour on August 3rd".
