Caldwell RR crossing

When will something be done about this triangle of mess? During rush hour and the increased Metra traffic this area gets jammed packed with cars. Also on Caldwell running west across the tracks and Lehigh people are constantly running the red light. Could the Metra make a flyover to fix this problem area?

  • MH

Expect this intersection and the surrounding congested traffic area to get even worse --and more dangerous--than it is now with the poorly conceived placement of the new Bike Trail extension coming through...Thanks Cook County Forest Preserve and

Once again it is time to post my idea about the Devon, Lehigh, Caldwell, and Central traffic nightmare:

This idea was presented to Governor Quinn under the Recovery Act but never got a reply.

Once upon a time the Edgebrook train station was located east of Central on the south side of the tracks (across from Old Edgebrook, there is still an old sidewalk there if you look close) where a picnic grove is now. I doubt any one alive today knows why it was moved to its present location north of Devon where every time a train stops it completely snarls traffic in downtown Edgebrook. My idea is to move the train station back to its original location so when trains stop the train would be completely on the tracks east of Central and as such the gates would not have to be down while loading and unloading passengers.

The tricky part to this idea is that land would have to confiscated from the FPDCC. I’m talking about the land at the southeast corner of Central and Caldwell, the entire parcel east of Central, south of Caldwell, west of the golf course and north of the tracks. A new train station would be built with sorely needed parking. It would also create a safer pedestrian environment for train passengers to exit and enter the train interface.

Considering what the daily nightmare traffic congestion is in downtown Edgebrook because of the train stopping the argument would be that this is using public land for the public good and the FPDCC is never going to use this obscure parcel for anything any way because of its location.

I know, lots of politics involved and where would the funding be found making this proposal a very, very long row to hoe, but no one else has ever come up with an idea for this intersection. What I would like out of this project is a Veteran’s memorial incorporated into the mix.

Chicago Artists Month: Exquisite Corpse Workshop at the NVAM Satruday Oct 4, 11-1

Join the National Veterans Art Museum and artists from around the city for a community art-making workshop and exhibition. Participants will create a portion of an “Exquisite Corpse”—an art form that exploits accidents and was made famous by the Surrealists—and the created work will be featured in an online exhibition right here on www.nvam.org.

In addition, visitors are invited to view a special exhibition of art works made by NVAM Education apprentices. These apprentices are high school students from Chicago Public Schools who worked intensively with museum staff and the permanent collection this summer in a collaboration with After School Matters. The exhibition of student art features media including photography, video and sculpture.

  • Thanks for posting this. NVAM is doing so many positive things for our veterans!

From the links below you can read about the Touhy Triangle initiative that Niles is planning. For those that were around 20 years ago when Target/Builders Square (now Costco) were built this is deja vu.

At that time both Melvina and Moody residents petitioned for cul-de-sacs to prevent the Niles generated traffic impact from affecting North Edgebrook but these petitions were ignored by Alderman Dougherty. When Niles eliminated the right turn on Melvina in Niles in August 2007 giving free traffic access through North Edgebrook to the Touhy Triangle Melvina residents petitioned to have 7100 north Melvina made a one way street north bound to both Alderman Dougherty and Alderwoman O’Connor and once again these petitions were ignored. Apparently we live on the wrong side of the ward. Instead North Edgebrook has become choked with stop signs and speed humps.

If the current status quo remains North Edgebrook will become an arterial route for the Niles’ Touhy Triangle that will go past Wildwood school, SMOW and Wildwood park. Niles has already played North Edgebrook/Chicago for a fool with development of the Niles’ Touhy Triangle so the question is: Are North Edgebrook residents going to let Niles generated traffic impact on North Edgebrook to continue to occur and pay taxes to let our residential streets become artial streets for Niles’ growth?

    Dear Alderwoman O’Connor,

The forthcoming building of an Aldi and Costco gas station at Melvina and Touhy in Niles, Niles’ Touhy Triangle initiative (attached) and a new doctor’s office at Melvina and Touhy in Chicago will create an even greater traffic impact on the 7100 north block of Melvina and the North Edgebrook neighborhood that I have outlined in the attached letters which have been submitted to you previously. It is now time to revisit making the 7100 block of Melvina a one way street north bound starting immediately south of the alley at 7144 north Melvina.

Also being resubmitted is a petition for stop signs at the intersection of Melvina/Estes/Tahoma which receives a direct Niles’ generated traffic impact because of IDOT’s traffic signal at Melvina and Touhy. Since you have allowed additional stop signs the next street over at Moody and Hiawatha which does not receive a direct traffic impact from Niles, the intersection of Melvina/Estes/Tahoma should not be prejudiced against.

    Respectfully,
    Dennis Paterka

My name is Ahmed Khan and I will be working as one of the Northside Regional Field Organizers for Karen Lewis’ Mayoral campaign specifically responsible for wards 33, 38, 39, 41 and 45 among other North/Northwest side neighborhoods.

Karen is seriously considering running for Mayor in the 2015 City of Chicago elections and we need your help to get her on the ballot. At this time, we are looking for volunteers who believe in Karen to help gather signatures.

You can read more about Karen and myself at the end of this message.

There are a plethora of avenues for collecting signatures. You might be interested in:

• Going door to door in your neighborhood/precinct.
• Going door to door in other wards.
• Doing a morning or evening shift at a local CTA Train or Bus station.
• Collecting at high foot traffic street corners, parks, shopping centers, malls, movie theaters, and any special events.
• Simply keeping some petition sheets with you wherever you go and collecting!

If you are interested in any of the above, please contact me with:

1. Name
2. Ward you live in
3. Phone number
4. Email
5. General Availability
6. Can you help get more volunteers?

Feel free to contact me directly at (773) 800-0159 or at cityzenkhan@gmail.com and I will either work with you or put you in touch with the Organizer relevant to your ward.

I will be able to provide you a brief training and share clipboards, pens, and petition sheets and work with you to assess a schedule that would produce best results. If you don't fall in the wards I am covering, I can connect you with your region's coordinator.

We will be doing larger collection events in the near future and gatherings but also need people to be working on this daily.

Sincerely,
Ahmed Khan

Earlier this year in Skokie, Illinois one of those mishandling bomb shells was fully made known to the Skokie Police Department that drugs were being stolen from the Bensenville Christian Village elderly nursing home. The husband of Ilana Yavne who complained to police that his wife was acting irritated and argumentative. He explained that her behavior was brought on as the result of illegal medications that she was stealing from her employment and that the medication belongs to elderly patients.

YANVE, who resides in the 5200 Block of George Street in Skokie, Illinois had medication confiscated from her residents that belonged to at lease two patients. Skokie police claimed to not have legal jurisdiction over the matter however the officer who confiscated the prescription medication did not follow appropriate procedures and was discipline.

The Bensenville Police Department remain to investigate this matter as YANVE husband blames her drug abuse for her behavior issues and unfaithful in his marriage and to cause her to become delusional. Yavne was employed by Ilinois Home Health in Chicago and assigned to Bensenville, IL.

This should be someone you should be extremely cautious of as she may be in Chicago and the Northern area of Illinois seeking employment in nursing.
