Halsted Willow Gateway - development

Just curious what people in the area thought of the impending development as discussed in the DNA article -

I can't tell if you can see the developer renderings of how the building will look in the neighborhood like you can in the print edition, but the size and architecture don't fit with the character of the neighborhood. It will become yet another multiple unit building with a bunch of rotating retail on the ground floor like the condo buildings on the east side of Clybourn, south of Willow and Clybourn Park.

Also, Dan Allen is not only the proprieter of The Black Duck, but a long time resident of the Sheffield neighborhood. It seems like a shame to displace a thriving neighbor business with a group that comes to our neighborhood to make a profit but invests nothing civic in return.

It's important to note that when the developers made some changes to the plans in an effort to appease the neighborhood leadership (RANCH Triangle) and Alderman Smith, they added another story to the plans....from six stories to seven stories.

With the Digital Manufacturing Lab locating at Goose Island and the development at the New City YMCA property, property values will probably continue to increase, so now is NOT the time to add a bunch of low end property to the neighborhood. We don't need it, it won't increase the tax base significantly, and it will add to traffic congestion.

I also agree with all the comments above.

Agree with all the comments. Would only add, if you are not a member
of a community group, now is the time to join. Over time it is up to residents
to protect their quality of life and their property values. The cheapest, most
reliable way to do this is to stay involved in your neighborhood and band
together with other residents. When issues arise you have a ready-made
and organized voice to influence development from a neighbors point of view.
RANCH Triangle has been around 50 years this month as have other
local groups. They were formed when Urban Renewal in the late 60's threatened
to demolish the entire area north of Halsted. Had neighbors not banded
together the area would now be a landscape of 1970's town homes and much less'
    desirable.

Tell Alderman Smith how you feel. Patronize Black Duck and let Dan Allen know
you want him to stay. And, join RANCH Triangle so you can be a part of the
efforts to save the historic buildings on that corner.

Careful at Southport/Clybourn Divvy Station

Broken glass bottles, empty bottles, glass shards and garbage has been strewn at the Southport/Clybourn Divvy station for the past month. Several calls and email to customer service has yet to yield any results. Be careful when using the station- especially at night when you can't see the broken glass.
