Development across from Target

Does anyone know what is being built across Aberdeen street from the Target store on Jackson ? I see signs that it's being developed by Praedium Development Corp. They are based in Northbrook but have no working website and what appears to be a History with strip malls. Usually I can find something on the Internet about a development. I think First Eagle Bank was doing the financing. I'm hoping for a Panera....

  • Bob H Family in the neighborhood since ~1905

I remember Alderman Fioretti saying something a couple of town hall meetings ago about someone wanting to put in townhouses. As you note, it's a bit small for retail. Can you tell from the foundation whether it's party-wall buildings?

  • Marco from Tropoje Two-flat owner

They have it fenced in so I can't really see. There is a "retail space available" sign there which leads me to think more Doctor's Office than Sub Shop.

What's the Deal with River North Restaurants Shorting Peoples' Change?

I ordered carry out from a restaurant in River North last night. The order came out to $18.51. I paid with cash. The cashier gave me one dollar back and said they don't have any change -- so they just tried to short me the rest. Have your experienced this?

I called to talk to the manager about this and she was totally indignant. Apparently , she said that most restaurants in River North don't want to bother with cash...

I called to talk to the manager about this and she was totally indignant. Apparently , she said that most restaurants in River North don't want to bother with cash so they round up or down. WTH!?

1st off, on a personal note, I go to this place 3 - 4 times a month, so this could really add up over the year.

2nd, they could be potentially dodging some major taxes. They also round up and give people whose bills are .01-49 the extra dollar. Not sure how it washes out in the end, but it seems pretty shady and annoying. If they don't want to bother with change, they should list prices rounded to the nearest dollar(that include tax) on their menu like food trucks.,

Chicagoist's Cider(s) Of The Month: Spain's Ciders

Look for Spanish cider at retailers with large cider selections such as LUSH Wine and Spirits or Binny's, as well as some of Chicago's best Spanish restaurants like Vera (1023 W. Lake St.) and Salero (621 W. Randolph St.).
