Edgewater Residential Swimming Pools

Hi all,

Several buildings in the area have swimming pools for building residents. For example, Malibu and Edgewater Beach Apartments both have pools. Does anyone know if there's a swimming pool a non-resident can access without being a resident's guest? For example, is there a building where I could pay to use the pool? I know Edgewater Athletic Club has a swimming pool, but it seemed a bit small and noisy.

Thanks!

The train and several bus lines stop right there. Why would you need to be concerned with parking?

Thoughts on N Glenwood Bike Lane

Looking for some thoughts on this. The other day I was going east on W Hollywood and when I got to N Glenwood, I stopped to take a left on to N Glenwood - which at this point is one way heading northbound. Looking for some thoughts on this. The other day I was going east on W Hollywood and when I got to N Glenwood, I stopped to take a left on to N Glenwood - which at this point is one way heading northbound. As I pulled out a biker was going southbound - against the traffic and I almost hit him. Even though he was breaking the law, it really wouldn't have mattered because I really don't want to hurt anyone.

So I got to thinking and the problem is that a lot of bikers use Glenwood but the issue is that when heading southbound at Ridge, they have to make a decision - ride on Ridge where there is no room or go the wrong way on Glenwood. I wonder if we shouldn't have a southbound bike lane from Ridge to Edgewater Ave on Glenwood and then direct the southbound bikers to take a right and go over to Clark (sort of like the bike lane on Ardmore at the end of the lake front trail). Anyone have an idea on how to make it safer for everyone?

Flaco's Tacos at Granville Redline Stop?

Hi all,
I remember reading several months ago that Flaco's Tacos was going to open up a new location under the RedLine Tracks at the Granville stop. Haven't heard anything about this since, and there hasn't been much if any construction activity in the space. Does anybody know anything about this?

Hate to break it to you, but stuff like freshly roasted coffee, expertly crafted coffee drinks, responsibly sourced good ingredients, furniture, and wait-staff is labor-and-materials-intensive. Not everyone wants to walk up to and order from a menu board, or sit at a counter and eat and drink blah food and beverages made from supplies from low-quality generic bulk purveyors (or even from pushbutton machines), served (if at all) by grossly underpaid workers.

DK, this is true with the exception of Metropolis which has been around for a while but not as long as the convenience stores. Ann Sather's is relatively new and took over an established restaurant whose owner passed away, and M Henrettaa did not last too long and the space has been taken over by Revival. The Tai restaurant Summer has been there for quite a while and it is their second location. Pete's took over where a liquor and convenience store was located and since their opening, other establishments have been coming into the area. Have you thought about the fact that these establishments are not tacky but just cramming a lot of merchandise into such small spaces. I support any business that can maintain their existence for over five years and still stay in business. This is an accomplishment in itself as most small business usually fail within the first five years. So I say to you that with such diverse shopping choices you should not be negative towards any of them.

Garden Plot?

Anyone know of available garden plots to rent near Edgewater/Andersonville? I am probably too late for this year but it can't hurt to look!

  • Isola J Namaste!

I will not have time to do much this season with my backyard. I am in Edgewater (Magnolia Glen). If you are interested, please send me a private message.

  • There are community gardens at the corner of Peterson and Ravenswood and also at Ashland and Hollywood ave. The Bowmanville area also has two community lots on west Bryn Mawr.

Looking for a good, reasonably priced veterinarian

New to the Edgewater area and I'm looking for recommendations for a veterinarian. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm sure the staff at VCA on Devon are nice, but I would never take my pets to a VCA hospital. Their corporation is well-known in the veterinary community for "pushing" diagnostics & treatments because their DVMs have monthly quotas to meet to receive a commission. If they don't meet the quota, it gets rolled over to the next month, so some DVMs get quite desperate. Depending on the practice, there are other penalties as well for the DVM and/or the practice as a whole not meeting their quotas. VCAs tend to offer a lot of incentives to try to attract people in, but it's just not worth it.

  • It's a bit of a tragedy that Meisner-Holley became a VCA hospital. They were an absolutely fabulous vet office with a stellar reputation for many, many years before the last full-time doc who privately owned it retired and sold it. I used to love them. I didn't think they were awful after VCA bought the practice but I only went back a couple times after that and wasn't thrilled.

Piece of mail misdirected to me

If you are--or know--a “Claire Fahey” in Edgewater Glen, please let her know to contact me backchannel. I just received an official piece of gov’t mail (no, not a check) addressed to her, but at my address. Nobody by that name has ever lived here, to my knowledge. She needs to advise that gov’t entity of her real address and have that document reissued to her at the proper address.

First thought was that either she or a neighbor posts or lurks here--and since previous attempts to find people online had resulted in demands for payment (or that I set up a paid account), I didn't know that Google would work as well and as fast and free as it did this time. All's well that ends well. BTW, why so many finger-waggers and nasty critics on these forums? Don't folks have anything better to do with their time than criticize and even insult their fellow posters? The 19th century phenomenon of the "town scold" is alive and well, it seems.
