Homeschooling Group/Drop Off

Is there anyone homeschooling kids in the middle school to high school age groups who lives in the Edgewater/Andersonville/Uptown/Rogers Park areas?

I was thinking about starting an informal dropoff at Edgewater Library (Broadway and Elmdale) where kids can do their school work and hang out for two or three days (possibly five) each week--maybe four to six hours each day. If you're interested, let me know. (I haven't decided on the hours yet.)

Once interest is gauged, I'll host an informational meeting at the library.

Landscapers blowing leaves into street

Due to the wind on Halloween leaves, twigs & branches came down. I spent a lot of time racking & bagging the leaves. Neighborhood contract landscapers on the other hand, used leaf blowers to send the leaves into the public streets as well as onto neighbors property. Is that legal?

  • Yes, call 311. However, it probably won't change anything.

  • Andrew Strand West Eadgewater Area Resident

The following appeared in Alderman O'Connor's recent newsletter. "Leaf Pick-Up. Don't forget that the city will pick up bagged leaves through November 21st. Simply call 311 to schedule a pick up."

Change in Tap Water Smell/Taste?

Has anyone else noticed a slight change in the smell/taste of tap water in the last few days? It's hard to peg but its somewhere between chlorine, a faint rotten egg, and iron.

  • NYCtoRP NewToRP

No, I only drink bottle. I never smell my water. Is there a problem occurring?

  • ctc Yes!

City water department called and told me to check my water heaters anode rod. I checked and my water heater has a stainless steel tank and no anode rod. Spoke with the water reclamation district who assured me that the emc pumping had no connection to my tap water. The tap water odor has since subsided so I suspect it had something to do with the Chicago water supply treatment...if that's the case, here's hoping that it was more helpful than harmful.

Monthly Parking

I'm thinking about moving into a condo near Sheridan and Glenlake Ave. It doesn't come with a parking spot so I'm wondering if any one knows of monthly parking lots in that area? Thanks

  • Thanks everyone! I've tried all those but nothing is panning out. All the places I called are full and have a waiting list.
I went out last night with a Realtor and saw some really nice places with parking included for a small fee. I'll probably go with one of those.

Hi all. I know the post was kind of grainy, but the only way for me to post a new pic is to post again. Here is an updated photo. I know many think kitty might be Jaden, but I am convinced it is not. This kitty has no orange.

This cat was found near Glenwood and Catalpa, in the alley just west of that intersection, heading south.

It is afraid of people at first, but I was able to convince it that I meant no harm...after which it purred and allowed me to pet it. I am taking it to a no kill shelter today at noon (I realized that the shelters I want to take it to aren't open until then). I will scan for a chip, but please keep searching for the owner in case it's not chipped.

Pam - thanks for the help. It's been non-stop frustration with some of these shelters. I understand their situation and it's really sad that the cat population is this large with so few homes willing to adopt. A friend of mine was in a very similar situation and basically had to leave a cat at the door for it to get into a shelter.

Harmony house specifically said twice (once by email and once by phone) that they couldn't help. Save-A-Pet in the burbs has been my best bet, with about a 4 week wait (pending openings).

Uptown at least scanned for a chip. Maybe it was the specific guy I happened to receive that day who wouldn't help beyond that. I go there with my dogs, so I know they're generally really great.

I'm definitely dedicated to getting this kitty into a no-kill, fostered, or (even better) adopted. Whatever resources you have to help would be greatly appreciated!

The rescues I'm sure are very overwhelmned right now, especially since it has been getting cold.

I'm waiting on john to call me back from NITT. They transport to rescues and fosters all over the place, even Wisconsin. I'm sure there has to be someone willing.
I will talk more to you tomorrow when I see you.

In the meantime... I'm going back out tonight to look for My friends cat Jaden.
    Let's hope we find her:-)
