I have used them for 7 or 8 years. They remove the snow from sidewalk, walk to front door, back yard sidewalk, walk to garage, and entrance to garage at my Andersonville home. The guys have never missed or been unduly late a single time. Completely reliable and they do a thorough job. All this great service for a great price: for me and my lot size, it's a flat $500, payable in March, for the whole winter. If they have to come zero times or many, many, many times, it doesn't matter. A flat fee. I love it and haven't worried about snow removal in years.

  • My building is next to a very long alley, What is the situation for alleys so that my tenants get through without getting stuck. Do you know if we can we hire someone for alleys? I also notice, especially last year that the garbage truck had some problems. The sign in the front of my building was knocked over so that they could get through.

Looking for parking near Elmdale & Glenwood

I'm looking to rent a parking space near Elmdale & Glenwood, preferably within a one block radius. I've been checking Craigslist every week, but not a lot has been coming up, so I thought I'd reach out here.

If you have extra space in your garage, and want to make a little extra money each month, let me know.

Thanks.

Employment for high school students

I'm a high school teacher working closely with Juniors and Seniors this year (16-18 year olds) and am hoping to help them find after school jobs. Though we've only known each other for a little over two weeks, I've been incredibly impressed by the maturity of my students and the potential they have. Many of their families are in need of financial support, and these students are hoping to help (and hopefully develop skills and an employment history that will help them in the long run).

Could anyone advise of places that might be hiring this season or in the near future? I'd be happy to write detailed and honest recommendations on their behalf.

  • DK Living and Playing in Chicago

Try the fast food places in the area maybe? Or any food service.Hostessing would be good. Chicago parks might need help?

  • JeffHinkson Jeff - Crime watcher and avid Bridge player

I know of a wonderful little maid service ran by two girls that could use some help!

  • The Chicago public library is now hiring library pages – the folks who put the books back up on the shelves among the many other things. This is a great 20 hour a week job for high school students and it may picque their interest in a career in libraries. They must go to the city of Chicago's website and apply.

Paying it forward, $50 off Tuft and Needle Mattress

Hi everyone,

Just moved back to the neighborhood and bought a new foam mattress online from Tuft and Needle. They make them in California and don't use any flame retardant chemicals. It shipped for free, has a 30 day easy return policy (they actually donate the mattress) and I haven't slept so comfortably in years! I'm totally thrilled with the quality. And it wasn't very expensive!

Anyway, they have me a coupon for $50 off to share with friends so I just thought I'd share it unless anyone else was interested. :)

Choppers?

Anyone know why we're under siege from helicopters? Last night for a while, too. Usually there's a clue if I check all the local news channels' and papers' websites. Really loud right now.

  • DK Living and Playing in Chicago

Yea that helicopter did linger for awhile didn't it?

Where do I live??

So where am I???

This area IS part of Andersonville...whether Andersonville has grown over the years or the Chamber just wants to have a larger area to manage. The area of Uptown south of Foster all the way down to Ainslie (the cemetery) is sometimes referred to as Andersonville Terrace. I kind of like that label a little more. It stands out and sounds a little fancy :) Boy Chicago is confusing!

Scotland - Will They Stay or Will They Go? (Referendum Viewing)

Scotland is voting this coming Thursday on whether they should remain part of the United Kingdom or break away and become an independent nation. It is history making and very exciting! Scotland is voting this coming Thursday on whether they should remain part of the United Kingdom or break away and become an independent nation. It is history making and very exciting! I am looking for a bar, pub, restaurant, or other establishment (living room?) that would be open early Thursday morning to watch the results roll in from Scotland's Referendum (I am perhaps foolishly presuming the BBC will be broadcasting this live). Obviously many establishments have community events when we have this country's elections and many open early for soccer/football games, so is there possibly any place that is interested enough in Scotland's future to open early and sell me breakfast or alcohol where I can enjoy the camaraderie of others (who might also help make sense of the outcome)?

@Bellaisteps - I thought of them, but last time I was there I didn't remember them having a TV. Thank you for reminding me that making a phone call is better than making an assumption! I will have to call and see what the details are.

Indeed Duke of Perth will be following the results as they come in. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Duke-of-Perth/203000686404572

Can anyone recommend a reliable and good value maid service?

  • Joan M. Back in Lincoln Square and liking it.

    Hi CubsFan!

I just wanted to say that 1.) this has to be the most, um, entertaining looking-for-cleaning-help thread I've ever seen on EB, hands down and 2.) if you enable the email function in your settings, you just might get recommendations via that channel from people who prefer not to post in the threads with personal details.

  • Yea... kind of made a left turn at one point. Not my intention believe me!!!! Thanks for the tip.

Need new lockers refinished

I have a 4' tall by 5.5' wide by 2' deep, purple painted metal locker set, which contains 6 individual lockers.

I need it sand blasted inside and out to get all of the purple paint off, as well as, I hope a lot of the rust.

Does anyone have:
1) Recommendations for whom would do this work well and quickly
2) Other suggestions (aside from painting) on ways to quickly cover all of the purple

The goal is to have a fairly shiny steel/gray locker, devoid of purple paint and rust. Here is a link to a similiar product. http://www.schoolsin.com/Merchant5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HAL-U3288-3&Store_Code=SCHI&gdftrk=gdfV27481_a_7c1079_a_7c2622_a_7cHAL_d_U3288_d_3&gclid=CjwKEAjwnNqgBRDdgOitrZPj6yYSJACM86tD5oCpKNbjF4pRcmUgvlcpUZ04ogovpvF9UNL3_jL7-hoCADvw_wcB

Anyone have info about a new bar going in at 6001 N. Paulina (Peterson and Paulina intersection?) Used to be Wild Rover a few years back. Drove by and the inside looks very nicely renovated, saw at least 2 flat screens on the wall and wood paneling and wood bar throughout.

If you need an Interior Decorator - I highly recommend Adam Zollinger Interiors

If you're looking for an interior decorator I HIGHLY recommend Adam Zollinger Interiors. http://www.adamzollingerinteriors.com

Adam is very easy to work with and reasonable prices. He got to know us, our likes, dislikes, our sense of style (or lack there of LOL) and came up with the perfect items and colors for our house. We wouldn't have been able to get this place looking so good without him.

Chicago Police

Have anger issues and the need to have sympathy? Blame the Chicago Police for your annoying behavior.

  • -BillDahl...I actually had my wrist broken by the police...but I deserved it. Maybe you should take a look at your actions and see if perhaps the police were acting justifiably. Over 20 experiences shows that you are obviously doing something to stand out.

  • Julia Z-N Andersonville Dog Mama

I agree with Scott. Given your reference to cops as "oinkers" and having 20 unpleasant encounters,I'd have to say you're probably not citizen of the year,Mr. Dahl. I've come across a few less than helpful cops, but for the most part, they've been helpful and respectful and again-going to while I'm going away.

Awning over the side door of my Georgian brick house is falling off...

I never thought of shaking snow off the awning over my side door and the snowfall last winter brought part of it down. It is hanging on by a thread. I worry that it will fall on my head or children's head this winter.

Know anyone who repairs these things? Looks like some huge bolts came out of the brick too .. I don't even know where to begin this project.

Do you ‘Eat Clean’ Edgewater?

When people ask me how I coach my clients to eat, the term “clean eating” is the best way to describe it. Walking Dogs Off Leash in NW Edgewater Glen

There seems to be a little upsurge in this along/around Glenwood, Rosemont, and Wayne.
A neighbor mentioned that she's having difficulty walking her dog who is leash aggressive because they are often surprised by dogs trotting down the street half a block or so ahead of their owners. I haven't had this experience recently, but I usually try to walk my dog when other people aren't out with theirs because mine is a rescue who is terrified by strangers.

Thoughts? Observations?

  • Mac I complain on EB on the regular.

Not another nasty unleashed dog post?

  • Snappette Special Agent

There are dog owners (not all... but IMHO too many do) that treat their four legged, furry freind, butt sniffing, poo eating, bad breathing, dog... as though they are children! God WTF is wrong with people! Leash the beasts and be considerate of the human race!

Theft of car part.

Hi neighbors,

I live on Ridge near Ravenswood. My building has both an outdoor parking lot and garage parking. One of my neighbors parks her car in the lot. She noticed a really loud sound from the underside of her car (Honda Element), took it in today and the cause of the noise was that 1/2 of her catalytic converter had been sawed. This was an attempt to steal it. Apparently the converter is worth $600 - $800. It's easier to steal this from some cars than others. Anyways, I wanted to put this out there as it's one of the latest things thieves go for in cars.
