Bobak's

The sign on Bobak's says "Building for Sale" . Anybody know something about this?

  • Stan Bobak runs it now. He got greedy and sued his brother a few years back so only he owns it and he is also the reason bobaks is closing.

  • Mr. Konrad, How aobut telling us why Stan is the reason Bobak's is selling/closing?

Beautifying our neighborhood

Why is it that there are no plans to beautify out southwest side neighborhood. There is so much vacant land along Cicero av. And Stevenson expressway , that could accommodate park for our kids, shopping centers soooo much. Are we step children to city of Chicago we pay our taxes like north siders east siders along lake shore residents. Does anyone else feel the same way? Can anyone give some answer?

The problem with the vacant land on Cicero Avenue (between Midway Airport and the Stevenson) is that the street frontage is not very deep for large scale commercial development. The reason that much of the Airport related commercial development went to Bedford Park (i.e. west of Cicero between 65th and Marquette) like the hotels, office building and restaurants is because they had the large tracts of land that national hotel chains need. The street frontage north of there in Chicago city limits is too narrow and the zoning code won't allow much to be built besides fast food, small retail and the smaller motels that are already there. There is the former Le Clare Courts site and maybe some brownfield sites right near the Stevenson that could be developed for something.

  • Thank for your response, but it would be nice to see other businesses beside quick cash and another Star Bucks being built in our neighborhood.

look at all of the curb work being done, look at all the sewer work, look at the street repaving, the 23rd ward has the FASTEST graffiti removal of any ward, even with only 2 tree trimming trucks the trees are getting trimmed when scheduled, the length of time it takes it the cities fault, the garbage is picked up on schedule, the only way to get businesses is with tif funds, but if those are used the same people that complain about lack of business are the same ones that complain that tif funds were used, there are no schools that have been shut down in the ward and over crowding is minimal, the lack of police is the mayor both present and pasts fault, Kennedy HS is no longer a school that has major student bused in it is mostly students inside a border, it also has a IB program which is more advanced than honors and I am proud to say my daughter, nephew and cousin are all enrolled in and my daughter is getting all A's and I attribute that to the education she received at Byrne, there is a blue ribbon campaign to show support for the police Zalewski was out tying ribbons to trees and light posts and also paid for most of them including for people in the 13th ward until Quinn started supplying them also, were Arteaga or Goral out there doing this? how many ribbons did they tie up???? and while I am at it, how many ribbons did you put up Chuck Hughes?? the new east end of the ward is getting those services that they were not getting before and the residents know this, and Arteaga is taking credit for these services getting done, drive through the east end and find graffiti, if its there call the ward office and see how quick it is removed, find it in another ward call that office and see it takes days to get it removed, street light outages are taken care of quickly also, I dare all of the fake Arteaga posters to point out where I am wrong on any of these, can not be done, these are issues not personal attacks, prove me wrong

  • Chuck I know you're a real person from GR and as much as you dislike Arteaga you don't talk as much sheet as some of these fake profiles. No one can come up with that much and be that annoying which leads me to believe that's his ex-CM. I make fun of Paulino's weight that's about it. I take care of my body so it disgusts me how people let themselves go.

Chuck we need a big strong man around us tomorrow just in case anyone tries anything. Can we count on you? We don't bite unless you want us to

This is is taken verbatim from a yesterday post on the Archer Heights Civic Associaton Face Book Page.

As was announced at the AHCA meeting this past Wednesday - 47th Street is to be closed from Pulaski Rd., east to Archer Ave. for installation of new sewers. From Alderman Burke’s office we now have the details.

The Department of Water Management will be installing new sewers on S. Harding Avenue from 47th Street north to 46th Street, and on west 46th Street from Harding to Hamlin Avenues . This new sewer will serve the area of Archer Heights from (N) 45th Street, (S) 47th Street, (E) Hamlin Ave. and (W) Pulaski Rd and is designed to improve drainage and reduce risk of flooding in that section of our community.

This project will start on Monday, February 2nd and run through February 6th (weather permitting) and 47th Street will be closed from Harding for three to four days to connect the existing sewer. Traffic will be detoured along 47th Street - Pulaski Rd. and Archer Ave. Everyone will always be able to reach their home or business. Outside of working hours (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM), a lane will be left open for LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY. Thru traffic will not be allowed at any time and NO PARKING will be posted during work hours.

Please remember the schedule is subject to weather conditions and may take longer. For any questions please call Alderman Edward Burke’s Ward office – 773-471-1414.

Also announced at the Wednesday AHCA meeting was the closing of the 47th & Kedzie intersection also for sewer installation. We do not have any details on that project at this time.

  • What THE HECK DOES A MEXICAN RESTAURANT ON Pulaski Have TO Do WITH A STREET CLOSURE??

  • Debbie W. Live in Archer Heights....Love my neighborhood

I know it has nothing to do with the strret closure but i was in shock. I'm sorry if i offended you.

Demolition Permit issued for shutterd Brandy's Restaursnt at Archer Cicero

On November 7th a permit was issued for the demolition of the old Brandy's Restaurant on the SW corner of Archer & Cicero and an announcement of what will be built on that site will be made at tomorrow's Archer Heghts Civic Assocaition meetinig.

Although the corner is not in Archer Heights, the AHCA tires to keep tabs on events/ issues happeninig along the community border.

  • Pretty in Pink Happy Wife Happy Life

I'd like to see a good authentic Cuban/PR or Tapas Restaurant out this way. We always have to go downtown or the northside. Just no more Mexican restaurants. There's just too many.

  • I'd like to see a HENRY's ...Or return of GOSSAGE GRILL!! Starbucks SUCKS! I'd rather see a CASINO then a Starbucks!
