15th and Christiana

hello everyone,i am wondering if anyone can give me some insight about the area as me and my three kids are moving that way soon.Any info good or bad will be greatly appriciated.Thank you very much.

  • I know a family on 15th and Christiana. They are super nice and it sounds like the people living above and below are pretty solid as well. As for the rest of the block...it seems as though there is a lot of activity but there is also a brand new amazing park on the block as well. You may want to check it out at different times of the day to feel it out.

  • Thank u I was a bit nervous about the violence and things but now days there is violence everywhere.

Progressives, parents react to Karen Lewis decision not to run for mayor

WBEZ interviewed people regarding their thoughts on Karen Lewis' decision not to enter the Mayoral race.

Here's the link.https://soundcloud.com/wbez/progressives-parents-react-to-karen-lewis-decision-not-to-run-for-mayor#c=0&t=0:00

My comments come in at about 3:15.

  • Amara who?

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

Valerie - that was not my intention! I have a tremendous amount of respect for Karen Lewis; I heard her speak last year in Evanston and was blown away! I am saddened by her illness, and sending lots of positive, healing energy her way. That said, I never took her seriously as a candidate for mayor

Antonio - Amara Enyia is running for mayor. I believe that she is the best candidate for mayor since Harold Washington

This council has a great deal of power under Senate Bill 51. The problem is companies almost never show up. They have to have something to advocate for. This is the council that decides rather companies receive waivers for BEP participation. There are many other issues that they deal with. My only suggestion is that when you go to the council have your company in position to do business. Make sure you are in good standing with the state. It is always helpful that you are certified with CMS as a BEP company.

Of course they just relocate! We all know that. The issue is that there was an open, flagrant, drug structure on City property and a Park. There are all kinds of government workers providing service to those grounds. WHY???? Didn't city workers shut this drug dealing hut down?

One is also naive to think...that our government is powerless to clean up this mess. Look at other neighborhoods with normal functioning economies and compare it to the vacant, empty, violent, blighted, dirty areas of the south and west sides.

  • Once again, if one goes to the "West" side(Austin neighborhood), it is not dirty, blighted, empty, and vacant. Actually, much cleaner than Cragin where I live. I go into the Austin area every day, do home visits. Now, violent, yes, according to police reports.

Yes, the government can help, but it can't do it all itself.

Out of that community, desperate for social relevance, a committee was formed; formed to regain that relevance and more. It was our bid, your bid, the bid born, developed and presented by our community that formed a partnership with a major university. This is something that is crucial to realize; our community, your community, my community, rose up and dared play with the, “Big Boys” and here we stand. Out of 13 contenders, from New York to Hawaii, here we stand in the Final Four. That is something for all of us, young and old, to be proud of; one of the few times on the national stage in a positive way since Dr. King and here we stand; a real contender. Leonard to help nonprofits increase their fundraising capacity by ensuring that they are current with all the necessary filings at the state and federal levels within 30 days. This will remove one of the many barriers to fundraising, freeing organizations to focus more on the day-to-day activities of running programs and services.

Leonard, an expert in community and organizational development, cited the need for organizations to step back and review their nonprofit filings. “I work with organizations on a number of issues, including strategic planning, financial management and board development”, she said. “What I found, is, no matter what issue I’m hired to address, all roads lead to compliance. Organizations-- large and small-- have challenges navigating the requirements of state and federal reporting for nonprofits.”
