Missing Cat

We are missing our beloved cat Missy. She has been gone for one week from Oakley and Ohio. She is part of the cats at work. We have had her for 2 plus years and she is part of our family. She is grey and white. She is feral so if you spot her please contact me as soon as you can. I can pick her up. She is not fearful of her family. Her sister kitty misses her dearly as well. She controls all the rats and kills two a day. She is well fed by us and has a heated outdoor house. Thank you for your help!

  • Just getting back in town. Going there now and tomorrow at dawn! Thank you so much! I will keep you posted!!!!!!

  • Jeanne K. 12 year neighbor

Just seeing your thread now, I'm not much help, but just wanted to say thank you for caring for your neighborhood cat. :) I'm sure she appreciates the warm outdoor house during the winter and the food. Best of luck to you that she returns home!

Lead in water

Has anyone who has done the free city test found any signs of lead?

  • Small amounts of lead in water aren't going to do anything to most adults. But kids are different, and high levels of lead in kids blood has been shown to cause lowered intelligence, behavioral problems, empathy problems. The Great Lakes environmental health clinic at UIC and the Illinois dept of public health say that lead poisoning in Chicago's children is not uncommon. The only thing they are arguing about is the source of the ingested lead.

  • Not uncommon is a euphemism for rarely happens. The number of reported cases of lead poisoning is minuscule in proportion to the population. Not uncommon is a euphemism for rarely happens. The number of reported cases of lead poisoning is minuscule in proportion to the population. In 2012, the last year for which statistics in Illinois are available, because Illinois is a broke, corrupt state being run into the ground, mostly by Democrats like Madigan, Burke, Cullerton, inmate Blagojevich, and some Republicans like ex-con George Ryan, so its overpaid, underworked AFSME hacks cannot do things in a timely manner, there were 3,000 cases statewide, most of which were caused by lead paint. Of course, because Illinois is a cesspool of mostly Democratic corruption, we are also one of the worst in the nation for this lead problem, just like we're first or second for political corruption, and fiscal insolvency.

    http://www.idph.state.il.us/envhealth/pdf/Lead_Surv_Rpt_12.pdf

The far more prevalent and pervasive causes of low intelligence, behavioral problems and empathy problems in Chicago are child abuse, neglect and violence perpetrated by poor people against each other primarily on the south and west sides of Chicago. Let's worry ourselves about the problems of significant magnitude before we get too twisted out of shape over Zikas, West Nile (another rare scare the media over-hyped for a few years), Anthrax which the media over-hyped for a couple of years and all the other nonsense that the media likes to hype to frighten people.

What business allows their maintenance people to use power drills in the alley right next to a residential building at 4AM? What business thinks it's ok to block private garages and alleyways for hours at a time with their delivery cars? These are just a few of the many issues Eat Purely's neighbors have to deal with on a DAILY basis. I've asked countless times for them to address these issues, but they seem to have no regard for ANYONE in the neighborhood. I made them aware of the noise ordinance that limits these activities on SO MANY OCCASIONS I AM AT A COMPLETE LOSS. Please DO NOT do business with them. If you do, you will be contributing to their complete disregard for their neighbors Nextdoor.

Gas Grill Repair/Cleaning - Recommendations?

Hey neighbors,

I recently moved into an apartment and the previous tenants left behind a gas grill along with a couple of propane tanks. It looks like a fairly nice grill, but was obviously left outside uncovered and unused for a while. It's dirty, looks like some parts might be missing or broken... and there's an old hornet nest in it. Yikes.

I'm sure by now you're saying - just throw it out! And I'm kind of leaning that way...

And I'm kind of leaning that way too, but if there's a chance I can get this working again I'd like to score a free grill and not have to carry it down three flights of stairs to junk out.

So after some googling, I'm not finding good info on grill repair techs, only grill cleaning. I'm hoping to find someone who can come out to diagnose the grill to see if it's even worth attempting to fix, and if so giving me a quote/doing the work. Hopefully they can both clean and repair the grill so I don't have to hire two different companies.

It's a Char-Broil, two-burner one-tank propane grill. I can't find a model on their website that looks exactly the same, so I'm guessing it's an older model. Looks sort of close to this one on their site: http://www.charbroil.com/products/gas-grills/performance-series/performance-series-2-burner-gas-grill
I couldn't find a model number anywhere so I'm going solely on looks. Bit of a long shot, but thought I'd give it a try!

Any help is appreciated! Thanks EB.

  • I would try to turn it on first, then clean it if it works. I have seen some replacement parts for your grill like the burners at Home Depot. Make sure the propane hose has no cracks. I wouldn't spend too much money to fix it.

  • Put it on CL under free and somebody will pick it up so you wont have to drag it down three flights.

  • Agree with Citizen01. If it fires up then clean it out and replace the grill grates. If you start spending much more than $50 in parts you may just want to put that money toward something new.
