I need a great tenant lawyer.

My building is infested with rats. Until earlier this month, I had thought that my building manager had called a professional exterminator after I had asked her to back in February. Five of them had gotten into my unit by chewing a hole through the wall and I trapped and killed them and took pictures, and since then I had not seen or heard any sign of them until earlier this month. The whole is plugged up, I still have traps there and none have gotten in but my neighbors and I can hear them in the walls, there are flies everywhere and the landlord next door keeps seeing them running around the back of our gangway.

There are also other recent issues with the building that count as tenant rights violations according to the Chicago RLTO, which I have recently begun reading.

I will be moving out in a week. I have issued a Building Violation complaint with the city and am looking for the best tenant-rights lawyer in the area who can make sure I get back all my security deposit, the interest on it that I was never paid, and any other money that I may be entitled to.

Thanks in advance!

Lost DSLR Camera in West Town

My camera bag was either lost or stolen in Wicker Park on Division Street

It was a nondescript black camera backpack with 2 straps, containing a camera (model is a Canon Rebel T3), two lenses, and other accessories.

Offering a substantial reward and no questions asked for the return of the camera and any information leading to its recovery.

Thank you!

Opportunities for Small Businesses?

I just started my own business (Flora's Angels) selling handmade all-natural body butters, scrubs and face products. I'm trying to spread the word and make people aware of the brand. I have a FB and IG page, in addition to the website. I've been doing research around expos and becoming a vendor or sponsor for different events, but I'm seeking even more!

How do I continue to spread the word and get additional purchases? Any ideas or opportunities within the Chicagoland area for small businesses?

    Hi Alicia,
As an CPA who runs his own practice in West Town, I can recommend a few ideas to you on how to spread the word about your business. I also worked in sales, marketing and customer service. About a decade ago, I joined a couple of local chamber of commerce's, the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber and the West Town Chamber. I served as Treasurer on both chambers, met a lot of people and my accounting practice took off as a result. Now, thanks to about a half dozen great reviews on YELP, my business continues to soar. I am going to look at your website and contact you directly as I serve a lot of small businesses and individuals in West Town area. I wish you all the best of success in your new business venture!

  • Thank you so much!! I'll definitely start my research on local Chambers of Commerce.

How bad are they going to let Augusta get?

They just re-paved that a few years ago but all the utility companies and construction has torn it up again. If you tear up a public way and do a half assed job repairing it, can't the city make them re-fix it?
Between having to travel down Pearson near Paulina, my alley, and Augusta I'm thinking of getting one of those lunar rovers from NASA.

Addison-raised comedian Kyle Kinane picks his 6 favorite Chicago spots
If you don't know Kyle Kinane, you should. The 39-year-old comedian and Addison native is filming his upcoming Comedy Central special at Metro Chicago on Saturday, May 21. Known for the incredible way he weaves tales about embarrassing bodily functions, bad decisions, drinking too much and junk food in an act that he once referred to as "Uncle Barbecue [telling] his dum-dum stories," he's also the actual voice of Comedy Central.

Does anyone know someone who can come out and repair and replace the igniter of a gas grill?

  • If you did find someone to come out it would cost more than that grill is worth. Also, seriously?

Al Scorch plays the banjo like he knows the most scenic spots on the Appalachian Trail. The 30-year-old roots musician, who grew up on Chicago's northwest side, takes inspiration from all over-he also loves hardcore punk-but his creative process is less about inhabiting different genres and eras and more about putting himself into other people's heads.
