Recommendations for Contractors

We would like to improve our backyard deck by expanding our deck, adding a spiral staircase going to the roof, and adding a pergola.
Any recommendations for contractors for this type of work will be appreciated!

  • Sounds like a nice addition. I am also interested in any recommendations from neighbors. Thank you for posting the question.

    Hi Neighbors,

I have used Impact Construction for years, across many types of projects - they're hard working, skilled, and clean guys. They're also fair priced and clean-up after themselves. I highly recommend Impact Construction. Here's the contact info:

For the past six years, our family has been extremely fortunate to have Anabella as a nanny, friend and member of the family. She started with us back when our firstborn was just four months old. Since then, we have added three more children to our brood. She has capably cared for each of these subsequent babies virtually from their trips home from the hospital.

She arrives each morning full of energy and always has a plan for each day, be it outings to parks, museums, pools, the beach...she is extremely adventurous and has the street smarts to go with it. Over the past six years, she has driven them to - and participated in - all sorts of classes and activities. We have never worried about overwhelming her with logistics. Anabella drives each day to our house in West Town from Cicero. She has never arrived a minute past 8am, her start time.

Our household situation is changing come July, in that I must close down my business and take some time off as I figure out my next employment situation, and we have only one child not in school. As a parent, I have learned some invaluable things from Anabella. I will do anything in my power to help her find a wonderful family. She seems open to working in various parts of the city.

In short, her qualifications:

- 30+ years of childcare experience, 10+ as a full-time nanny
- Extensive experience with newborns, including multiples
- Bilingual (English & Spanish)
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Very safe driver, has own car
- Extremely energetic, solution-oriented, "go-getter" attitude
- Mom to 5 adult children

Please contact me for further details, such as what her contract with us had included, or to be put in touch directly with Anabella. She would be ready to start a new nanny job in August 2017, and would ideally meet with interested employers in May or June.

  • I think it's great that you're looking out for your nanny.

Too many people don't look at the profession for what it is: someone is helping you raise your child, not babysit them.

A nanny with these qualifications is few and far between, you had a real gem at the absolute top of the profession!

  • BH

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. She is truly a gem. GiniAtWork, she may be open to taking care of disabled or elderly adults. Feel free to pass on the post if the situation arises. I appreciate it!

Giant Tree Falls In Pulaski Park, Smashes Cars And Takes Down Light Pole

Elsewhere in the area, other trees appeared to have suffered from the force of the wind. In the 800 block of North Wolcott in West Town's East Village, a large parkway tree was bent over the street.

Mason and painter recommendations?

Our East Ukrainian Village 3 flat needs some brick repair/tuckpointing on an outside wall and also some scraping and painting of wooden doors and metal trim.
Any recommendations would be most welcome.

  • Fortune Restoration if you want it to look really good

  • mary rowles Mcrchicago

Thanks, Sam! I appreciate the tip. I looked at Fortune's flyers & website, but they look very fancy and likely charge premium dollar. We are talking about the side wall, just a few feet from the neighboring building, like so many 3 flats, and not visible from anywhere unless you are next to it. So we need good structure but the appearance is less important.
