FOUND CAT, Noble Square/West Town

We found this cat near Noble & Chicago Ave. I think it is female, has long hair and is on the smaller side. Very friendly and not the normal stray alley cat. She is mostly black but is really dirty in this pic. Can't get enough attention and tries to get inside, so she belongs to someone. Please contact me if you recognize her. Otherwise we will take her to CACC after a few more days, and I would rather not do that.

Hi, our family of 4 is looking for a short-term rental from approximately March - June 2016. We are hoping for a 2BR in the West Town, HP, LS neighborhood, but are very flexible. It can be furnished or unfurnished, doesn't have to be the best, and are seeking people who may be relocated for a short time and may not have wanted to sign a committed/longer lease as well. We'll be undergoing a renovation project near Oakley and Chicago and don't want a pricey, nor long-term rental. We'll also be moving with the bare minimum as our stuff is in storage. I've started looking at Airbnb and corporate housing, but thought I'd check for other suggestions (particularly specific sites or private individuals looking as well). The kids are good and one attends the nearby school. Thanks!

  • You might try the various websites that specialize in sabbatical rentals. Those tend to be the cheapest furnished rentals if the dates work out for you, and few people seem to know the market exists.

  • Hi Andrea, I have a two bedroom that will be available Mid-March and would be interested in renting this on a short lease basis. Would like to talk further with you to learn about your needs, and the age of your children, etc. The two bedroom is located in the west-west loop, near the united center--and everything is new in the condo--its beautiful. Please email me or call me at 562-400-8481 and we can chat. Thanks, Catalina

The Affluent Living in Subsidized Housing? ...No Way

I read that people making over $10,000 a year are abusing the system. I wonder what percentage of Humboldt Park/Logan Square residents are guilty. Here's the article:

http://thehill.com/regulation/administration/268409-outrage-builds-over-wealthy-families-in-public-housing

Outrage builds over wealthy families in public housing
Lawmakers from both parties are outraged about wealthy families who are living in subsidized housing intended for the poor. As many as 25,226 "over-income" families are living in government-subsidized homes, according to the inspector general for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released in July.

Lost dog wicker park (Elk Grove ace and honoroe street)

My friends dog got out of the yard and a woman in a black car was reported to have picked him up. His name is Bolt, he's very friendly, a put bull husky mix small frame. He does not have a collar or id chip. If found please contact us. This happened about 2 hours ago.

  • That is FANTASTIC news!!!!!! So happy to hear this. CACC is not a good place to end up...thank you for letting me know. I shared it on FB so I'll post your note.

  • It seems like every other day people are reporting about dogs having gotten out. I understand this happens and is an accident, but the one thing these posts often have in common is no collar and no microchip. This is just negligent. Please make sure this dog gets a collar and microchip. It's the best money ever spent.

Are you considering leaving Chicago?

Have you considered moving from Chicago, and if so, why? I am born and raised here - as were my parents and grandparents. Since I was born, nearly a million people have left the city dropping the population by 25%. As part of your comment please mention if you are from here or have come from somewhere else. Would be interested in hearing comparisons as well if you have liveed somewhere else. If you love Chicago, and would never ever leave, let me know that also and perhaps why. Thanks all!

  • Nikki Still a 312er!

I love Chicago but I am thinking of leaving. I'm a single mom without financial support from my ex and it's getting too expensive for me and my boys to stay. :(

  • I came to this great City 61 years ago from Puerto Rico. My parents worked day and night and made a good life here. I love this City. This is home. In fact, I've been in the same neighborhood for 60 years. Met my husband here and raised my children...

I came to this great City 61 years ago from Puerto Rico. My parents worked day and night and made a good life here. I love this City. This is home. In fact, I've been in the same neighborhood for 60 years. Met my husband here and raised my children here. There is no other City like Chicago. It is beautiful, clean, exciting, but I can't afford it anymore. Chicago politics have broken my heart and emptied my pockets. We bought land in another state far from Illinois and plan to leave next winter. So sad....

Window repair, vintage ones.

Can anyone recommend an experienced window repair person/company?
Some windows are not in removable frames and they are cracked.
Other windows have broken chains and or won't budge.
Thank you.

Looking for red wrigglers...

I am wondering if anybody in East Ukrainian Village might have some to thin out or sell?

  • I have a small worm bin we're looking to sell. It fits under the sink cabinet and is full of red wigglers + lots of castings. $10 if you want it, we no longer have a garden. :(

  • Sam, assuming that Soo is going to get worms from Fun Amy - I'd be more than happy to take your bin off your hands. Feel free to email me at djanegremlin at gmail dot com. (Though Soo should get dibs if they're interested, as they started the thread).
