Warning: first world problem. Starbucks cup lid causing spills all day.

Why replace a lid that works with a lid that causes your coffee to drip as soon as they hand you the cup?

I love going to the Ogden/Grand Starbucks, they do a lot of nice things for the neighborhood, but that darn lid - arrrgh! Has anyone else experienced the kind of frustration I'm talking about? As soon as I get in my car and drive – spill, drips in my hand, drips in the cup holder. Stop sign – splash, drips. Gas – drips on my leg, hot coffee on my finger.

I'm going in to say something. If you experience the same things, please say something too, that way they change it back. Thanks!

  • Louie Just your friendly neighborhood blah blah blah

Leaks were coming from where the cup meets the lid.

Any recommendations for private garbage pickup?

We recently received a letter from the City saying our condo building needs to switch to private garbage collection. Anyone have any recommendation or experiences to share (good or bad) with private garbage collection companies? Thanks.

  • we use Lakeshore. They are the cheapest but not always the best. Sometimes they miss a pickup.

  • BSR

We use Flood Brothers they came in with good rates. Make sure you ask about extra fees outside of the rate. We used waste management in the past they were fine and reliable but tend to be pricy.

Maria's Team Aims to Prevent 'Bro-Hole' Bar From Replacing Club Foot

At the northeast corner of Augusta Boulevard and Honore Street, Club Foot closed in late November, just two weeks shy of its 20th anniversary.

Moreno made exceptions to his promise for Forbidden Root, a craft brewery at 1746 W. Chicago Ave.

This article has 1 other Chicago location (Show)

Club Foot's owner, Lauree Rohrig, who ran the bar with her husband, Chuck Uchida, said on Monday that she would like to sell the business and liquor license to Mike and Ed Marszewski, owners of Maria's Community Bar, a tavern and packaged good store at 960 W. 31st St.

Maria's Team Aims to Prevent 'Bro-Hole' Bar From Replacing Club Foot
EAST VILLAGE - The owners of Maria's Community Bar in Bridgeport want to take over the shuttered Club Foot, bringing in a new concept tentatively called "The Golden Arms." But a local alderman wants the community to weigh in first, since the plan would need a liquor moratorium lift and zoning change.

This is way up the thread but @SmallLittleDan I never said that The Golden Arms were doing anything illegal. So I'm not sure where your paragraph about it came from. What they are doing is not good public policy and not neighborly which is ironic b/c they want to be a neighborhood bar and have picked a location in an RT-4 zone.

  • Smith Parker everyone, your EB ombudsmen. Thanks Smith Parker. Go 1975!

In Wisconsin- there was in early 2014 a projection of a $1 billion surplus heading into the 2015-’17 budget period. Late in 2014, there was a projection of a $2.2 billion shortfall -- the difference between expected revenues and the amount of money being requested by state agencies. But the shortfall was never a deficit -- and some of the surplus was consciously spent by Republicans, as tax cuts. So tax payers opted for a refund instead of more money for more gov.

  • Thanks for clarifying. I stand corrected.

However, I truly don't see how Walker "saved" Wisconsin. Its economic performance compared to neighboring states, even our basket case of a state, has been middling at best (and terrible compared to Minnesota).

He's no Sam Brownback, I'll give him that at least.

Dear West Town Community,

Here at the West Town Community Alliance, we are giving you a platform to voice your opinion in regard to neighborhood developments. We are a new community group formed to serve as a liaison between residents, property owners, business owners, and the various Aldermen that preside over the entire West Town Community area. Anytime we are presented with an issue, we will offer a survey allowing all members of the community to vote on that issue. We will then gather the results and provide them to the respective Aldermen and other applicable organization (residents groups, business groups, and the individual proposing the issue) enabling them to make better informed decisions that impact our community.

We are presenting our first official issue and we want you to let us know what you think! The team that owns Maria's Community Bar in Bridgeport is interested in taking over the old Club Foot space (1824 W. August Blvd) as well as their liquor license in order to open a new concept in the space, the Golden Arms, which would feature locally crafted beer, classic cocktails, and community-building activities.
1st Ward Alderman Moreno has asked that we poll the residents, property owners and business owners in the surrounding neighborhood to gauge whether Golden Arms would be a welcome addition or not. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

CAST YOUR VOTE!
Please find the quick survey here http://bit.ly/GoldenArmsSurvey, which outlines the Golden Arms proposal, their request, and more information regarding the issue

  • The Golden Arms group submitted their proposal to EVA and that is not up on their website as of now. Perhaps that had more information?

  • Kay Lee 10 yrs residing in UK Village

Marszewski is refusing to publicly post their proposal.

Mystery Train Horn

I live near Chicago and Damen. I've been hearing what's sounds like a train horn most of the late morning and early afternoon.

Just curious if anyone knows of a train that runs close enough that you might hear a train horn. I've lived here for two years and haven't really noticed it before

Should Club Foot Be Reborn as New Cocktail Spot? Poll Asks You To Weigh In

Standing for Levi's, Leather and Love, L.L.L. Chicago, just east of the Chicago and Damen avenues intersection, took over the shuttered Vigilante Press' comic book store at 1931 W. Chicago Ave. in mid-June and is gearing up for its first fall and winter season.

Individuals driving to the Ukrainian Festival this weekend are asked by Alderman Maldonado to NOT park on the streets in the Smith Park neighborhood as it is in short supply and much of it is now permitted. Instead, they are urged to park for free in:

-- The private parking lots on California just north of the former Aronson building on Grand

-- The parking lot at Superior and California.

Use of these lots was arranged by Ald. Maldonado.

Parking is also available at the Ukrainian Catholic Church at 2245 W. Superior.

In addition to our beat car, Cmdr. Kulbida has assigned a squad to the neighborhood during the festival. Officers will ticket vehicles illegally parked. This includes parking on permit only streets, in alleys, on parkways and on park property. Individuals caught speeding, ignoring stop signs, driving the wrong way down one-way streets and otherwise driving dangerously will be ticketed as well.

Because of problems in past years, at request of the Smith Park Neighborhood Alliance, CPD and Streets & Sans are allowing neighbors who live in Smith Park to "reserve" spots via the "dibs" method.

Enjoy the weekend!

Geographical extent of flooding!

Just wondering about the scope of flooding in the area, I'm near Chicago and Ashland and am flooded in my basement like I've never seen before - My friend near Grand and Hoyne warned me of the potential doom as waters reseeded -

  • West on Harrison - we got about 5" to 6" inches in the basement. It rained like the dickens. It was so hard that water was coming through the basement wall. Yes! I later noticed that there was a loose brick. Need to replace wall and flooring in the affected area. Sewers were not taking any water.

  • Our semi-finished basement on Haddon Ave. took on a little over 6" of water and sewage Monday night during the storm. We just moved in 2 weeks ago and there were no former reports of flooding to this extent, let alone the added raw sewage in the building. Luckily we...

Our semi-finished basement on Haddon Ave. took on a little over 6" of water and sewage Monday night during the storm. We just moved in 2 weeks ago and there were no former reports of flooding to this extent, let alone the added raw sewage in the building. Luckily we were home when this started and were able to salvage a fair amount of what was down there, but we ended up losing about 1/3 of our stuff in the basement. After speaking with other neighbors on the block, it became clear the sewage and flooding was an issue block-wide on Monday. Just feeling fortunate we happened to be home.

Looking to join a pub quiz team in River West

Hi! I moved to River West (near Milwaukee and Chicago) a couple of months ago. I used to regularly go to pub quiz when I lived in Australia and I really miss playing. Does anyone have a local team I could join? Or alternatively, would anyone want to start one? The Beetle has pub quiz on Monday nights.

  • Awesome! If an extra team member or two is needed, I'll meet you at Cleo's next week!

  • Great! We'll see you next week, Kristen :)
