Pratt pier

Late afternoon and into the evening, there were several police cars and a police truck, as well as some unmarked police cars parked off Pratt in the park as well as on the pier. No ambulance or rescue vehicles. Does anyone know what was going on? They were there for hours.

  • A police truck backed all the way to the end of the pier followed by a police car. Someone told us that they were told they were "collecting evidence". They were still out there at 6 or 7. We were out walking our dogs around 3 in the afternoon when we first saw them.

  • In addition to CPD marked cars, there were 2-3 unmarked cars and a police vehicle from Rolling Meadows.

Constant bell ringing

I don't know if other people have this problem or can hear it. But someone on my street Greenview, repeatedly "calls" numbers all night. I hear the dialing all night with little with no time in between. Not sure who or where or even why, this is going on. Just an FYI if you have a unit that faces the street and you're window is open, everyone else on that street with their window open can hear you! Well i might add! So i hear you're screaming matches , scream singing, dialing doo..buzzers

Sullivan High School's "embrace" of immigrants and refugees featured on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight"

WTTW-TV’s local public affairs program “Chicago Tonight,” last night featured our own Sullivan High School and its renowned English Language Learners Program for immigrants and refugees, who speak little or no English.

Sullivan and its program is the subject of a recently released Chicago Magazine article, which is on newsstands now and will be available online June 5th.

The reporter, Elly Fishman, and Sullivan teacher, Sarah Quintenz, who heads up the program, were interviewed last night by WTTW’s Phil Ponce.

Looking for a Sublet for June, July, August

Last night I found out after having to wait for days that my sublet fell through. Now, I am desperately seeking a sublet. If there is anything out there for the 3 months furnished, unfurnished. Studio, 1 br. I am grateful. I have a little dog and I can afford at max. $ 900.00, while I am finishing my last full time semester in Graduate school and transitioning from part time to full time work. I have good credit.

  • No more than 900.00. I think the deposit for having a dog is 200.00. I should know within a day or two if it will be available. It's a great place. Very clean and spacious feeling. The guy just isn't sure of his plans just yet. Don't want to get your hopes up.

  • I have something that may fit the bill. contact at 773-908-8002

Ignorant Landlord

My daughter has a serious bedbug problem, that somehow started in the apartment building that she lives in. It has been reported to the city, by calling 311. The landlord has been notified on numerous occasions and still has done nothing. Inspector came out and said apartment underneath is totally infested. Daughter has two small boys. It's an extremely frustrating situation. Landlord is not doing anything, and basically told them to move. Does anyone know anything or anyone that can help please.
Thankypu

  • Jay

Would you mind telling me on which street(s) this building is on? So other tenets can do something too.

  • I can't speak for the original poster, but I live on the 1700 block of W. Wallen. The condo board has already been cited by the city over 6 month ago and so far has done nothing to take care of the multiple violations, including bedbug infestation. So, if you think calling the city is going to solve your problem, think again. Definitely report it to the city, but don't expect things to be resolved with any urgency.

Mice in the neighbor's unit

In our 7-unit building one neighbor (top floor) reports mouse droppings; while all other units report nothing. We're a self-managed association, and now the question raised is this: is the association charged with finding and mitigating the mouse situation, or is it on the one owner who has the issue? Would love to know what folks think of this.

  • Association.

Not seeing mouse drippings in other units doesn't mean the mice aren't already there.

Thankfully, our condo doesn't have a mice/rat problem. We do have an annual condo-wide roach treatment. Many of the units are rented out which means we have a lot of traffic/new people coming in and potentially bringing along pests. All units get the roach gel regardless of whether there are roach sightings or not.

  • seems like it has been a bad winter for mice. i have had more than ever.
i hear rat populations are also high.

    but yeah, association.

Mary, apparently a guy was threatening to jump off a building, perhaps the result of a domestic dispute. There were several reports on Facebook Thursday night. If you have a Facebook account, you'll find 3 or 4 postings here but you'll have to scroll down to find them because no one commented on the threads after early Friday:

I am heartbroken over the news today. I feel like I need to do something beyond just talking with my son and his friends about water safety.
I have an idea , but would need some help.
I want to offer a beach/water safety class for free to the kids 11 and older of rogers park. To encourage them to come we would offer them a coupon to a local business for a free ice cream or something , if they complete the class and pass a quiz.
I could teach and design the class, with help from lifeguards or some other knowledgable person.
We would need a place for the class, and local businesses to donate.
What do you think? Can we do this?

  • JeanneRP, this is an excellent idea. I suggest all school age children be included. Children need to understand facts about Lake Michigan and water safety at a young age. The junior life guard program at Loyola is for children 8 and up.

  • Bruce_ because it was mistakenly posted to the wrong thre

That can pass a physical test.

Found Cat - Female Calico

Cat found in apartment courtyard on Ashland. The cat is clearly humanized, but appears to have lost a collar (matted fur around neck). Vet found no chip. Please comment with any relevant info to help.

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Can you post flyers with her photo on nearby buildings and light poles? Cats don't usually go far from home. I also saw her photo posted on Facebook.

This is tempting to me if you don't find her owners. I so miss all of my dearly-departed cats but especially my calico.

well, this is great. water shut off w no notice

i live on touhy, where they are laying new water lines.
there was a notice put on my door that they would be shutting off service.
the notice was put up between 9 and 11 this morning warning that they would shut it off today from 10am to ???

by the time i saw the notice, it was already shut off.
not cool.
@joe moore

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Mo, whenever the city has shut off water to our block, someone has rung the doorbell in advance of the shutoff. Might you have missed hearing it?

  • possible, tho not likely. tho if you just stab the button, and dont really press it, it doesnt ring. but the dogs didnt say anything, either.

i know they will be doing this anywhere they are putting in the new lines, i hope people are aware of the work and are now forewarned.
