Hank went missing on Friday 5/19 around 2:30PM when he got lose from the dog walker. He was last seen around Roscoe St. and Lake Shore Drive. We heard there was an accident and a dog was hit and killed around the time he went missing but we have checked with 311, CACC, various vets shelters and Lost dogs IL and there is no record of him or of a dog involved in a car accident. We still have hope he is out there until we have some answers. Please spread the word and keep an eye out for him. If you see him, do not chase him as he is confused and scared. Sit on the ground and try to give him a treat or softly call his name. I just want my baby home safe and sound, or to have closure if someone witnessed the accident and can confirm it was him. ;(. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

  • Don't give up hope. Never accept what you don't know for sure. If the police confirms the dog, then maybe. But please keep on searching and have faith.

Who the heck is this dog walker that shouldn't be walking dogs in the first place? Please tell us because I have two dogs and use walkers often.

  • Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic...

Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic of your dog to get a more definite answer? What about the drivers of the cars? Could there possibly be some security videos in the area that may have caught your dog in that area around the time of the accident? A possible police car video? One last idea. Could you check w/Streets & San to see if they had to dispose of a deceased dog, on that day. I wonder if they have logs of what they have "picked up", for lack of a better word. I'm sorry if I have repeated what others may have said. Just trying to brainstorm to give you closure.

Lost Dog!

Maizie has been missing since Tuesday night. Her family lives near Webster and Cleveland in Lincoln Park and have been searching all over (and posting the usual places). She is chipped and was wearing her collar. She has also been going through chemo and needs meds, so if you see her please contact her family as soon as possible (she is very friendly and will respond to her name). Reward offered.

The bad news is that she is unlikely to have traveled from her gated front yard in Lincoln Park to Whitney by herself. It seems that she was taken from her yard on Tuesday and then abandoned at some point afterwards. Just a gentle reminder to city dog owners (myself included) about leaving your dog unattended (which I do quite often).

Don't mean to hijack the thread Winnemack, but wanted to get the news out to those following this ordeal. Thanks for posting!

  • That's awesome! Her owners are regulars/friends who come into my job often. So glad she's back!

Great and not too expensive dog trainer in Lakeview?

Our small 1.5 year old rescue dog is great and for the most part extremely well behaved. Occasionally, though, when we're outside -- she's always on leash -- she'll bark at runners going by when she's startled by them and frightened.
Does anyone know of a really good local (Lakeview) dog trainer iwho isn't wildly expensive, and would be willing to do a session or two to teach me how to handle/help her to change that behavior?
Thank you

  • joecool

    hi

  • We had a really good experience with Kiki Yablon (http://kikiyablondogtraining.com/), who came recommended by our vet at Family Pet. She charged $150 for an initial 90 min session, and $115 for additional hour-long sessions as needed, with free e-mail support in between sessions. Also, she comes to your house and evaluates the situation as it would occur in your dog's own environment.

They left a number and I called them back asking when they would be coming so I could arrange for the police to be there as well. They didn't show of course but heads up to all. I'll be calling the AG about this fraud in the morning as well as ComEd!

Thanks bucktown. I had the door to door 'sales' last week in LV also, wanted "to be sure I was aware of ComEd program something or other." A rumpled suited guy with a dog eared clipboard and badge about 6:30 pm on a weeknight.

Calling to extort cash is quite different. Contacting the AG actually worked for me regarding cramming ATT phone bill. She did indeed reach an agreement and rate reduction as far back as 2008. Report fraud.

Thanks. I had a visitor last week wanting to see my bill. I closed the door on his face.

Be safe and AWARE. If he had more malicious intentions I would not be writing this post....if something seems off, trust your instincts, call the police, do whatever. The same thing has been happening to me on the 1600 block of N. Leavitt for almost a year, though I have yet to catch anyone in the act. The thief who enters my home picks the lock and goes upstairs while I am downstairs, steals items from closets or storage areas and slips out undetected. It may take a day or two before I discover what has been stolen.
The thief takes what he thinks will go unnoticed and leaves minimal signs of entry. His favored hours seem to be 10 am to 3pm.

  • I'm not sure if this is of interest to anyone but we have these on our front and back door. I work from home and my grandfather (ex vet/ex chicago robbery detective) has these in his home. They'd stop someone from getting in with a lock pick and he (and my husband) tested more aggressively to see if it would withstand a door kick (we think so). It may be worth investing in for safety while you're home.

There was a girl (who appeared to be in her mid twenties) standing on the sidewalk with her white and tan pitpull (approximately 50 pounds) who was wearing a black collar with a little black box on it. As we were passing, the dog lunged, completely unprovoked, and grabbed my dog by the throat. The dog would not let go. The dog finally released its jaws from Clue's neck after I repeatedly punched the dog on the head and grabbed the top of the dog's snout. As Clue was gushing blood from his neck I moved him a little ways down the block. The girl exchanged words with the postal worker who witnessed the attack and then she fled the scene. If you know this girl or have seen her before PLEASE private message me. She had short brown hair, worn in a ponytail, and was approximately 5'5". She might be Hispanic. At the time of the incident she was wearing black and white athletic shorts and a red t-shirt. She most likely lives in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Clue suffered three puncture wounds to the neck. We have been in the ER all morning.

P.S. I love all dogs, I have no problem with pitbulls, I simply don't want this to happen to anyone else in the neighborhood because this girl has no business owning a dog.

  • Debbie Lincoln Park resident

I'll be on the lookout for you, as I live on that block. Similar thing happened to my dog in our yard a few years ago when a dog lunged at her through the fence posts and grabbed her snout (requiring a traumatic ER visit). I know how upsetting that is.

  • I am so sorry this happened to you and your dog. For a fast recovery. This is about PUBLIC SAFETY AS WELL, I hope you filed a police report because the police can be on the look out as well. This could have happened to a child -
I too will keep my eyes open. Also contact all Vets in 60614 zip code they might be helpful in finding this dog. Also dog walkers in your area. Good Luck!!!

File a police report keep photo evidence of your dogs injuries. Also never punch a dog in the face I know it might seem instinctual. It actually does nothing except make the dog who is biting, bite down harder. What you should do in a dog attack is use what is called a bite stick or break stick. I've used the end of a leash before as well. To break a bite on any dog you get to the side of the jaw and slightly insert. The dogs break immediately because of the foreign object. Sadly most dog owners don't know this and many dogs suffer worse injuries. Even if your dog is not aggressive, if you let your dog near dogs you don't know I recommend being educated. As a dog trainer in Chicago uneducated dog owners is more the problem then the dogs are.

I assume that it has a lot to do with the opening of Mariano's, as was already mentioned. But honestly, I've lived in Lakeview East for 3 years and Treasure Island is the closest grocery store to me, and I've never seen the story busy. They are a nice store and I shop there regularly, mostly because they do not get crowded. Mariano's is a nightmare in my opinion, and Jewel is not much better. Mariano's employs cashiers that are almost exclusively under 21, so if you want to buy alcohol, they have to page someone over the intercom and then you wait. Huge hassle. Jewel has a good mix of older and younger cashiers, and I don't believe the Whole Foods on Halsted employs any cashiers under 21.

The problem with Treasure Island is they are smaller and just don't carry some of the products I need to buy, so I still make the occasional trip to Jewel or Whole Foods (not Mariano's, if I can help it!). Also, as a smaller company, they often aren't able to offer the same kinds of sales and promotions as larger chains.

As far as that Walgreens, honestly, there's one just a few blocks down Broadway at Belmont that is bigger and brighter and a more pleasant place to shop, in my opinion.
