What's going on at Six-Corners?

It seems like the work has completely stopped on the triangular parcel across from Sears on Irving Park Road. I never see anyone working there anymore since they tore the bank down. Does anyone know what's going on there?

  • I have heard that they can't find the companies they want to lease out the space in the new build, so they are waiting until they do. It's an eye sore and an embarrassment. Can Chicago please just buy the land and make it a park? I would be happy to see my taxes go to a park.

Any chance of luring Trader Joe's? Or Whole Foods? I would love to see some food options other than Jewel.

? Shooting on Laramie south of Addison 8:20pm, July 21

Anyone have details/story of what happened here? Had CPD SUVs and crime scene tape blocking Laramie south of Addison at the intersection last night. Can't find any further detail other than some 24 y/o has a GSW to their ankle.

  • Seriously?! How are residents supposed to be/stay informed and aware when this is all the news tells us: "A 24-year-old man was shot in the 3500 block of North Laramie at approximately 7:53 p.m. He was taken to Community First Hospital in good condition, police said." (per nbcchicago)
    Domestic dispute?
    Random?
    Gang related?
    Self inflicted?
    ... ad nauseum ...

  • Prolly a person of a protected class that cannot be mentioned. I can read between the line though and I'm thinking either hispanic gang banger or mistaken for a Hispanic gang banger. The rest doesn't matter.

NW - did you contact your CAPS facilitator, or ask as a CAPS meeting? You can also contact the police district, and make an appointment with the Commander, if you feel that the appropriate information is not being disseminated.

Lost Cat!

Hi everyone my cat went missing this weekend! She's an all white short-haired cat that has no collar and is spayed. She's a friendly little cat who likes to meow a lot! She's not too good with her name so we've always just called her Little Cat. Please help me find her, she was last seen on 7/15 off Belmont and Pulaski behind Planet Fitness.

  • Hey guys! I just wanted to update you! We found Little Cat! She roughed it in the streets for a week, but she made it back to us! thank you! <3

  • I'm so very happy for you. Thanks for letting us know. Please try not to let her outside. Really it's not worth the worry if she makes it home.Hopefully it was an accident and won't happen again.Great news!!!!

Neighbor parks business truck with business plates on our block

Neighbor parks his business truck plate truck on the block backing really close to the person behind him as to conceal the plate. He will do it to anyone of the neighbors. Butt usually his wifes car.
This also makes it difficult for neighbors to pull out when someone has parked behind them. What can we do to stop this?

  • Andy x

The problem with them tying up resident's parking spaces is there aren't enough now. It should be parked at the business. or off the street. We all work too. Some of these guys park on the very end. Pulling out of an alley can mean taking your life in your hands if you can't see. I've almost pulled out in front of a speeding car more than once because of one guy. work trucks usually take up more space too. There are a lot of reasons to restrict them.

My neighbors have lost their cat and asked if I would post on here. He's about a year old, white with gray and black tiger patches. Temporarily without his collar because it was rubbing and created a neck abrasion. He's very friendly, pic below! If you have him or see him, please call 773-865-8444. Thanks.

Flagstone Landscapers

Hey, I was a bit too ambitious when I bought a bunch of bluestone flagstones for my patio. I have the patio started, but need a stone-laying expert to help me finish the job. Does anyone have someone they could recommend to lay the rest of my bluetstone? Thanks!

297 Apartments Near O'Hare Approved Over Alderman's Objection
CITY HALL - A key city panel approved the construction of a seven-story, 297-unit luxury apartment complex near the Cumberland CTA Blue Line station in a 7-1 vote on Thursday despite the objection of Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st), who said residents of the 41st Ward did not want the project.
    https://www.dnainfo.com
  • 297-unit "luxury" apartments..Have to wonder how long it will be before we hear the PC terms- affordable, subsidized, vouchers, density etc.. Or housing for vets, seniors, disabled.

"Robert Scott" Pleas re-read the DNA info story that started this EveryBlock thread: The story says "The building would include seven affordable units, and Glenstar O'Hare would pay $2.9 million in lieu of putting 23 more affordable units on site, as mandated under the city's 2015 Affordable Requirements Ordinance." So the building that Ald. Napolitano opposed DID include some "affordable" (below market rate rent) units, that you also seem to have a problem with.

Also re-read the Nadig Newspapers story ,which said:"Another commission member, Linda Searl, who voted for the project, asked the developer, Larry Debb of GlenStar Properties, if he would be willing to increase the number of affordable housing units in the development from seven to 30, and Debb agreed. Normally 30 affordable units would be required for a project of this size under city law, but Debb has offered to buy out 23 of the units by paying $2.8 million into the city’s housing fund.

Affordable units are offered at below-market rents to those earning about 60 percent of the area’s median income."

City-wide policy prevails again over the local NIMBY opposition.

I take my dog to Found twice a week. It would be great to have something closer. What I like about Found is they don't just let all the dogs loose in a big play group. They evaluate each dog and match them with the best suited playmates. In the beginning, my dog was leashed and in a small group with dogs that had good non-reactive temperaments. Now he does one-on-one play dates with female dogs only, most of the time. I can't find another place that does this. I have 3 or 4 friends that also have dogs that wouldn't do well in traditional large format daycares, and they all go to Found and their dogs thrive there. They charge $30/day and I have to block out our days a month in advance. Definitely a need for daycare for those of us "difficult" dogs.

Terrible Experience with Colletta Construction

Where to begin? Unprofessionalism via bad communication, disorganization & false promises. Inadequacy by negligence. Ineptitude by poor craftsmanship.

- Paid him 50% down and an extra $1,000 and received less than half of the work complete (plenty of which needs to be repaired as the quality was extremely poor)
- Less-than-half of the work was “completed” in 2.5 weeks when “3 to 4 days of work” was what we were initially told
- Many promised work days that resulted in...

- Many promised work days that resulted in “no-shows” with no explanation given
- Damage done at site
- Discord amongst employees and “he said/she said” back channel communication
- Bad communication including: raising voice to customer, not answering calls or texts, not reaching out when absent from scheduled work day, full voicemail box)
- Ignored addressed inconsistencies/concerns with the work-to-date

I wouldn’t recommend this “company” to anyone and would, in fact, highly advise anyone looking for work done to NOT go with them.

Good call, DarkAngel. I had used Chase QuickPay and immediately tried to redact it but was unable to. I'm glad that you can at least see the experience we had with Colletta and make your decision based off of that.

  • File a complaint with small claims court. You can get three times your costs, court cost and fees and maybe more! Cost about $80 to file. Take your complaint up to the law library and write up a solid complaint.

Dark Chocolate Ganache Glazed Layer Cake - WOW!

Holy cow!! Friends took us to Lutz Bakery & Cafe for cake and coffee in their private garden. Anyone who loves dark chocolate cake and ganache glaze and hasn't tried Lutz's, it's worth grabbing a slice... best cake I've ever had. Will be returning for certain.
Anyone have other local spots and fav fare to share?

  • I went to mother cluckers today and had pulled pork sandwich, with a side of mash potatoes...great!

but just so you know if you are going there today, their pop fountain is down so I had to drink water... I put some equal packets in it but it just tasted like sweetened water.

  • IU^ + lemon wedges and voila: lemonade. :-)

Thank you so much

If you join the portage park garden club, frequently there are notices of plants being given away. Garden folks are always moving plants around or chamging things, and most of them know whats invasive, what blooms when, & which plants dont play well with others.
