Dog Walker Needed

Hi,

I have recently adopted a pooch and looking for a reliable dog walker a few days a week. We are located near Kedvale and Byron. Does anyone have any recommendations of walkers they use or have used before? Currently we are using Wag, but open to other options of companies or people running their own walking business. We would be interested in either one on one walks or a walker that takes more than one dog at a time as he is very social. Prefer someone comfortable with extra large breeds as well since he is a Great Dane.

Thanks!

  • We use Snappy Paws for our medium sized dog and they are great! Very flexible and accommodating to our changing schedule.

  • Misplaced Texan Fourth Year In PP

Another happy Snappy Paws customer here. We have two larger dogs. Snappy Paws are VERY dependable, flexible, and reasonably priced (in my opinion).

Proposed Chicago Homeless Housesitter Program (CHH)

How we might salve two open wounds by applying them to each other...

To the Honorable Aldermen and Mayor of the Great City of Chicago

June 20, 2017

How can we morally as a civil society allow these two images to exist side-by-side?

An open proposal for the establishment of the "Chicago Homeless Housesitter Program"

https://www.gallantgoose.com/proposed-chicago-homeless-housesitter-program-chh/

  • This is the craziest idea I've ever heard. I said the same as Beeb. Why not have the banks just fork over a grand a month to the homeowner to NOT go into foreclosure? And this idea that either a bank AGREE to this, or the city will confiscate their property is EXTORTION!.But then that's how this cities politicians roll, isn't it?

  • paul in jefferson jefferson park resident

Wont work but , the city should hire some of these people and put them to work to solve the problem. Some of the homless gave up look around the six corners , wait till business move into area are they going to work at Binny's or allowed to sit around and beg?

Six Corner's Portage Park

Anyone know if they are still building Aldi, Binny's, Starbucks, etc? There's so much potential for this intersection and neighborhood, why does it still look like an ghost town?

  • paul in jefferson jefferson park resident

That sounds good make sure you take off the blade

  • Looking forward to becoming a Portage Park resident soon! Love reading this thread and seeing the neighborhood pull together and want better for an area that has tremendous possibilities. In fact, we fell in love with it exactly as is so anything in addition is a bonus!!

Jeff Park Affordable Housing Opponent John Garrido Caught Violating City Ethics Law

John Garrido (CPD Lt. John Garrido/Former losing 45th Ward aldermanic candidate John Garrido/Leading outspoken opponent of the Jefferson Park affordable housing project John Garrido/(Likely) fake EveryBlock name-user John Garrido) VIOLATED the city's Ethics ordinance, per a report released June 15,2017: See the list of names, John Garrido is number 28, on the list linked from this 6/15/17 City Press Release:

  • I am sure since there is a record of not filing timely, john garrido would incur any consequence in not filing timely. I do not believe he filed late intentionally for any sort of malicious intent on affordable housing.

now arena on the other hand, your hero has done some shady things in regard to affordable housing project, misleading constituents and some questionable zoning changes, but lets not mention those since they benefit your agenda.

  • R.R. I'm on that list what's the big deal the city tells you after the deadline.I have 1. question how come Aldermen Christopher Teliaferro is on the list?????but you don't mention that but you bass a police officer???? Get a life Mr 5150.

Central and Waveland

I was just on Alderman Villegas's web page and read that he is meeting with the developer this evening. We hope that the developer will build something there that benefits the area with economic development. We don't want any thing like they are doing in the 45th Ward.

  • Gardener Portage Park

As a nurse practitioner and resident in the immediate area, I'm absolutely in agreement with this plan. We need this type of facility in the area; the population is aging and there are many seniors who need assisted living because of declining mental capacity. Anthem has an excellent reputation and should be a good neighbor. The artist's rendering looks like the facility will blend well in the 'hood.

  • In addition to filling an urgent need for senior housing, its close proximity to a hospital is another plus for the building occupants/residents.

Please keep your dog out of my back yard

To the people who consistently walk their dog off the leash on the 5400 block of Warwick, please stop allowing your dog to use my back yard as your dog's pooping place. My yard isn't fenced but that doesn't give you access to my property. Today it was twice, once before 7am, the other between 4-5 pm. There's an incident every single day. Next contact will be to Animal Control.

Thank you.

  • Soo, soo sad either way. I see soo much of it when walking my dog. Sometimes the grass hides it when high, but my dog definitely finds it and sniffs it. Yukkk!! Yes, I have heard people doing that by putting all the poop in the offender's front yard. Maybe not nice but I heard that they don't do it again. Yay!!!

  • Walked out of my yard this morning to a steaming pile on my sidewalk! I left it there. Let everyone enjoy it! When I came home after work, it looked like somebody had stepped in it. If we all do this, it may force the rest of the neighbors to take action.

it is a lot to estimate without seeing what is being started out with in where pipes are, is there an existing bathroom, wiring, existing lights etc. also if you are just painting walls and floor or adding insulation drywall and a floating floor, suspended ceiling or painted rafters, adding electrical outlets, also do you have electrical or do you need to upgrade your service panel.

I would say on the low end assuming walls, electrical, bathroom, paint looking at around $10,000.

you could drop $6,000 in just making a bathroom if there is none already and you are just adding one.

Just want to throw my 2 cents in here. If you are trying to improve the value of your home for resale, finishing your basement to add bathrooms and living area does not pay off. Most people don't want to hang out in their basement, and aren't willing to pay much extra for a finished basement. If you do spend $10k to finish your basement don't expect to be able to sell your house for $10k higher. If you are finishing your basement for your own enjoyment knock yourself out! If you want more living area and an extra bathroom it may be time to buy a new house. If you would like some free help with estimating your home's value and looking into buying a new home feel free to call me @312.268.7655 or private message me.

  • I finished my basement last year which included putting a bathroom in from nothing. Also did all of the electrical, hvac and finish work. It cost me around 15k and I did most of the work myself and learned a lot.

If you live close by and if it helps would be willing to take a look or at least guide you in the right direction. Good luck

Building a porch

I'm looking for recommendations for
1) someone to build about a 4ft x 4ft back porch
2) materials to use (pressure treated vs cedar vs synthetic)

I'd also appreciate any tips or suggestions for this project.
Thanks!

  • following. We need to replace our front, ground level aluminum porch that has a concrete pad. Thinking either wood or brick, with a shingled roof. Ours is maybe 8x4? My husband was thinking we could maybe even get a kit of some sort, but I feel like if we hire someone then they will properly dispose of the old materials.

  • Gray Elementary School reviewed

For being in CPS, dealing with what they have to deal with, no money for funding, after school programs etc...this school tries it's best. They also have to deal with many, not all, unsupportive parents. Gray school clothes students that come in filthy or can't afford a uniform, they feed students who come in starving. You have to think of the neighborhood and the situation when rating a Chicago Public School. This is not the suburbs with endless resources and money...they are doing the best they can with the cards they have been dealt. Schools like this are very lucky to have educated teachers that would rather teach in a low income school than head out to the suburbs.

PPNA June Public Meeting

PPNA Public Meetings are usually held on the third Monday of each month. Because our June Public Meeting date falls on the same date as a meeting to gather input on the redesign of the Jefferson Park Transit Center, we are canceling our public meeting and encouraging all residents to attend that meeting instead as the transit center is an important asset to the Northwest Side. The meeting details are as follows:

I recently moved to the Belmont-Cragin area. I live in a very nice quiet block, except for my neighbors down the street having parties almost every weekend since it got warm. When they don't hire live music, they gather in the backyard with a bunch of people and play their own music through an amplifier. Sometimes the party goes until 1:30 -2:00 a.m.

Another neighbor said that he approached them last year and asked if they could lower the music and they raised the volume even higher. Parking is very limited on the block due to a lot of homes with driveways and their guests take a lot of the parking spaces. The neighbors I've met so far have also brought up this situation.

Just for clarification, we are totally OK with backyard parties and music, but when it comes to live music and amplifiers, I think that party should take place in a banquet hall. These people feel it is ok to disturb their neighbors until very late and also force their music down our throats.

In a city like Chicago where we are being taxed and fined for everything, I'm wondering why these homeowners/landlords are allowed to get away with this and not face penalties. In this City a car could be impounded for playing loud music, so I don't understand why this isn't consider a nuisance with consequences.

A hefty fine for them is a new ordinance I would support!

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

Although the music is a staple of the neighborhood where l live,no one is pointing a gun at my head and saying listen to my music or else! I have no problem with it as long as its turned down or ended by 11 pm and sometimes these same people will ask my wife and me if we would like to come over too.So no one is shoving the music down my throat

  • I think the original complaint was about being able to hear the music from inside your own home and until all hours of the night. A tolerable level until 11 wouldn't bother me either, but the parties over here are so loud that if your house has the air on and the windows closed you can still hear the music, and they do actually go on until 3 or 4 in the morning.

  • I think you're looking at Junior Scholastic and not scholastic scope. The two are very different.

Just because you don't agree with an article doesn't make it propaganda.
