Wildwood Restaurant

Recently visited the new Wildwood Restaurant at Caldwell and Touhy. Order arrived cold and the fall off the bone rib were not.
I would have to rate it with a 2 on a scale from 1 to 10.

Moving Company Recommendations

Looking for a recommendation for a reliable moving company. The move will be intrastate. (About 118 miles one way) The last move I used a local 'cheap' company. What a mistake that was.

All police are bad?

Reading some recent posts and news articles about bad police is jaded. Most of our neighbors are police. There are a few arrogant ones, but that aside; I came across this positive article.

Man Who Pointed Gun at Police Charged With Assault, Police Say
LITTLE VILLAGE - A 39-year-old man was charged with assault after pointing a gun at police after an attempted burglary in Little Village, police said. At 4:17 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue in Little Village.

I note psychological projection on your part, Ralphie,

Police misconduct, police abuse, police corruption, police criminality harm all of us, even the white privileged who are blissfully ignorant of the mulligans and do overs you come to expect as your birthright while continuing denial of other communities basic rights.

Your dream town where everybody looks like you, thinks like you, resists taxes like you, complains of government like you and plays with their little glocks like you sounds like the opening scene of a Twilight Zone episode where the townfolk are too ignorant and cocksure to see what's coming.

Best wishes to you Ralphie and your little glock on your continuing voyage in racism.

And where disrespect and lawbreaking by the respectable are combined, one also finds connivance with crime in other areas of living.

" The more complex a society becomes, the more fully the law must take into account the diversity of the people who live in it. The approach to crime is not a matter for the police and the courts — or even the lawmakers — alone. It is a matter in which the whole society is involved."

Motorcycle drag racing?

The last few weeks I can hear what sounds like motorcycles drag racing between midnight and 3am. Not the roar of Harleys, more like the high-pitched revving of Asian and European crotch-rocket bikes for several minutes at a time, often several times during the night. From the direction of the noise, I'm guessing they tear up Northwest Highway or Harlem, but it's loud enough to wake us up several blocks away so I imagine it has to disturb others.

Is this a new thing or are we only noticing it since sleeping with the windows open? If not new, have others called the police about it? I hesitate to call since I have no idea where they are. Thanks.

  • I was on the way home at 2AM and getting gas at Touhy and Cumberland and they pulled in - about 20 Asian bikes. Not my thing, but they were pretty clean cut and sober...but loud. Was kind of hoping they would be dumb enough to go through Park Ridge where they would certainly be pulled over, but they went East towards Harlem.

Lucky Grill , on Talcott, going down hill

Has any one else noticed that forks and glasses are not properly clean at the Lucky Grill?
Been going there for years. Never had any unusual number of times I came across dirty forks and glasses. In the last month, it seems like every time I go there I have to look for clean utensils. Time to go elsewhere.
Too bad. It use to be a great neighborhood place.

  • I've noticed a change too! We haven't gotten dirty utensils but poor food which needed to be sent back. We always get the fruit with breakfast instead of hash browns and several times we had to send the fruit back. First time there was moldy fruit in it and the...

I've noticed a change too! We haven't gotten dirty utensils but poor food which needed to be sent back. We always get the fruit with breakfast instead of hash browns and several times we had to send the fruit back. First time there was moldy fruit in it and the other time it was as if the fruit sat in the fridge for a while. All slimy and gross. Then just a few weeks ago I was given spoiled sour cream with my potato pancakes. We went back to the original Lucky Grill on Milwaukee and Sunnyside and they seem to be MUCH better!!! Don't know what's going on with Talcott.

  • Talked to waitress who in turn talks to cook in charge. Also talked directly to cook in charge that day. No help. I thought posting on this web site would get their attention. Also called Chicago Dept of Public Health.
This kind of thing can be expected to happen any where on occasion. Every day, after repeated complaints is too much.
Really people, if you do go there ,be careful.

Stay away where you don't belong. Because of a dispatching error, I was sent to the 5600 block of west Jackson. I barely made it out of the truck before four tactical officers had my butt against the truck.
While they were searching me and the van; "What the hell are you doing here boy?"
I told them and they told me I have the wrong address and to leave NOW. (I was looking for a nursing home 3 blocks away)
I deserved to be questioned. I was as out of place as one could get,
I hope when the CPD sees a care full of ne'er do wells (white, black, hispanic or whatever) cruising down my street; pull their butts over and find out what the heck are they doing here.
I gotta get off my soap box. Only good wishes to all of you and yours. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Please and thank you goes a long way. Even f I don't agree, all of you have my respect for voicing your feelings.

  • I agree with your idea of CC. Certainly not in any aggressive frame of mind. It should be with a boy scout frame of mind, Always be prepaired. I have a fire extinguisher in my house for that reason. I hope I 'll never have to or want to use it. But , the need may arrise.

  • Ralph,

"Stay away where you don't belong." Is this the way "right of center" types euphemistically promote segregation in this most segregated of all U.S. cities?

What as going on at Olympia park?

Went to Olympia park late Sunday afternoon. Were the police expecting a race riot? My wife of almost 5 decades and I honestly "got the heck outta there!" Is our neighborhood parks being overrun by gangs? We went to Oriole park and had a peaceful walk. No gangs or people sticking a gun in my face.

  • EPguy born and raised in Edison Park

the police were just there because all the neighborhood kids go there during the fest. there is no gangs to worry about. it is still the safest neighborhood in the city

  • kudos to the police patroling Olympia Park during the fest weekend. Kids gathering at the park was at a controlled level, very minimal numbers compared to prior years. Not sure where the kids went instead??

  • Ralph Johnson Retired

Thank both of you. I read all this talk of our beautiful neighborhood being overrun by ne'er do wells and other undesirables, I start to panic. Did you get your new tax bill estimate? Thank you Rahm, Toni, CPS. Wait until the above start taxing to pay for all the pensions. Bruce! Where are you? We need a property tax freeze before we become detroit. More tax takers than taxpayers. Why Flood Control?!?!

Why do so many tax paying property owners have to pay an additional $3k up to 9,000 dollars to prevent floods in their homes.? We have had flooding on the NW side of chicago numerous times including 2010, 2011,2013 and 2015. Not only where some basements seriously flooded but the streets as well. A variety of companies and private plumbers have been installing these flood control services and they are probably not all done the same way. Won't that effect our sewer system? How come the city is not stepping up to the plate to alleviate this situation? Not everyone can afford the $3-9 thousand to have it done.

  • Huh? My education was not mentioned once. You must still be stuck on that from the last moronic tirade you went on. I did however comment to the fact that you are lazy, unemployed, drain on society. Does that ring a bell?

It must be nice to have all of that time on your hands to spend "Critical Thinking" instead of actually making a living.
Once again, I am tapping out from your delusional rants. You really are one of the most annoying people I have ever run across, but I can't believe there is anyone one on this earth as ignorant as you are.

Skylight/bathroom repairs.

Hi all- I'm looking for recommendations on a company that gives free estimates when dealing with skylight repair. Not sure if we are having interior wood issues or if it's legitimately our skylight causing concerns.

Thank you!

  • Senseis Taking the road less traveled

We were having skylight problems also. They were leaking. We hired Jeff Bell to come out and seal them. That lasted a few years until a massive hail storm actually broke through one of the skylights. We ended up replacing all four, because they were the old bubble type. He replaced all of them and also checked all the wood and replaced some of that. His number is 773-392-8900. He is very good and has done a lot of work in the house.

Why Flood Control ?!?!

Why do so many property tax paying residents have to pay anywhere from $3K to $9K to have flood control installed in their homes? We have had serious basement flooding as well as street flooding in recent years (2010,2011,2013 and 2015). With different ways to install flood control, won't this effect our sewer system? If one neighbor installs flood control and another does not , where will all those flood waters go? Who is liable ?Why doesn't the city step up to the plate to alleviate this problem?

I agree with everything you said and wish they would. Same issues with water here, the sewer system is archaic. Maybe what they are doing on talcott by res will help with flooding. When I called (repeatedly) about the many cracks in our street and our flood issues, they told me I'd have to spring for the 500 to get a camera in there to prove it's the city's issue. Well seems we can skip that 500 dollar step since the sidewalks are sinking too etc. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know something is really wrong under there.

Plus I'm not paying the many thousands of dollars just to build something extra that should be working right in the first place. If the city wants money from us in taxes and utilities, the utilities need to be current in terms of load for the population.

I read an article back in 2010 or was it 12 that they didn't open the key in time in our section of the city which is gross to even think it gets dumped somewhere (lake m) without having it cleaned but id rather have it there than in my basement.

Anyone in streets and San care to comment?

What are the typical projects? Are they chosen by the teacher or the student or both?
What did you like or dislike about the class?

Is this true?

I heard a rumor there is section 8 housing in our neighborhood. (government subsidised housing for people on welfare) Is there any truth to that or is it a scare tactic to get residents to panic sell their property at reduced prices.
I'm at an age where I remember the real estate people telling my parents "you better sell before the neighborhood turns into a slum."
Recently, I have had dealings with five agents and never so much as a hint on things like that. All five were and have been very professional.

  • Ditto Nancy B but there are several down NWH in Norwood Park. Not housing but vouchers. At this time, I think it would be next to impossible to incite "panic selling" in Edison Park. Steering and panic selling are two different things.

  • As the neighborhood begins to change, expect to see more section 8 as the area becomes appealing to some of the people that couldn't afford it and didn't want to move into a predominantly white in the past. Now that they see their little bit better off "cousins" moving in and enjoying a safe, quiet life here on the northwest side, they want to be here too.

I grew up there. I still can't believe there are so many that say it's such a safe area when I KNOW first hand, it's not. The things that happened when I lived there (25 years ago when the El cam in) were horrifying enough and things happened to my OWN home. Why do people keep saying it's such a great area?
