Starbucks @ Harlem/NW Hwy

Any word on what business is going in next to Starbucks @ Harlem/NW Hwy? So excited :) Thanks!

Well, I work 2 jobs and I'm up every day at 4 am...I think that's even too early for Starbucks. I actually make my own coffee and take it in a thermos. But it's nice after work or on the weekend to enjoy a little conversation with my friends at a Starbucks (since I rarely drink alcohol)....I don't know, maybe I should start...LOL . nah, I'd just fall asleep!!

Truth be told, I've only had Starbucks once, about 12 or 13 years ago. I got a regular large coffee and a blueberry muffin and my coffee was extremely bitter, and if I remember correctly the total was $5.65. Fool me once shame on you! Fool me twice shame on me!

Direct tv

I'm thinking of switching from ATT U-verse to Direct-tv. I live in Norwood
Park West. I'm wondering if anyone who has Direct-tv can tell me how the reception is. I'm concerned that the O'Hare flight path may interfere with reception.

Tami, I did not switch. I wanted to have WGN in my channel line up. They told me WGN is not a local channel, so I would need the package with WGN America. - that package had way too many channels for me and I didn;t want to pay that much. I stuck with U-Verse even though I'm not crazy about it. I did find out my neighbors across the street have Direct TV - they said it goes out sometimes during the storms but usually doesn't stay out for a long time & you can access shows On Demand to see anything you missed.

  • Thanks Ruth. I told them I want the Cubs game. They didn't tell me WGN isn't available. I really hate this....

Any Other Older Residents Remember a Kennel North of Kennedy Xpressway?

I know I was a kid at the time but it was located on north side of expressway between Harlem and Oriole. One could see trainers handling German Shepherd dogs there. Can't remember the name.

Illinois Senate proposes statewide tax on soda
A new bill in the Illinois Senate is taking aim at soda drinkers. Senate Bill 9, proposed as the Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Tax Act, would place a penny-per-ounce tax on bottled sugar-sweetened beverages, syrups or powders sold or offered for sale to a retailer for sale to a consumer. State Sen.

    The email:
Thank you to those of you who took action and made your voice heard in opposition to Illinois’ proposed penny-per-ounce beverage tax, which would dramatically raise prices on beverages such as sodas, juice drinks, teas and sports drinks.

Yesterday, the Illinois Senate decided to amend Senate Bill 9, removing the proposed beverage tax from the Senate’s budget plan.

We wanted to share an update from Illinois Coalition Against Beverage Taxes spokesperson Claudia Rodriguez: “Lawmakers heard consumers loud and clear that yet another tax that singles out thousands of common beverages adds to the burden of families and small business owners, who already work hard to balance their own budgets. This new state tax would add to ones that already exist on beverages, causing prices to skyrocket, threaten jobs, and hurt local businesses.”

Illinois lawmakers still have tough decisions ahead, so we strongly encourage you to continue to share your opposition with your lawmakers. The beverage tax still remains as an attractive target to generate revenue. Tell your friends and family to sign up for the coalition at noilbeveragetax.com. It is important that we continue to share our concerns about rising prices on our common grocery items.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
