Toni Taxwinkle Should be Impeached

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-soda-tax-kass-met-0914-20170913-column.html

When she was 4th Ward Alderman from 1991-2010, Alderman Joe Moore was politically aligned with Preckwinkle. I wonder what his perspective is on this assinine tax?

Hidden treasures in Toni Taxwinkle's idiotic pop tax
Taxpayers are rightfully angry about Toni Taxwinkle's costly and idiotic soda pop tax, though there are some hidden gems in it, too. But angry taxpayers jamming the county boardroom on Wednesday weren't looking for treasure. They were looking for vengeance on Taxwinkle for her ravenous penny-per-ounce soda pop tax.

A couple of ambulances and fire trucks. Didn't see a lot of police, but I wasn't gonna hang around to see what it was.

Reckless driving

There's a driver of a black Honda CRV, license plate E56 4789 who has repeatedly sped through intersections where children play. I've noticed it on multiple occasions and tried to speak to him about it yesterday to no avail. Is there anything we can do about something like this? It's very dangerous.

The project proposals have been put together by neighborhood volunteers (our PB49 Community Reps), who’ve been working hard the last two months researching and crafting the proposals for your consideration.

This is all a part of the 49th Ward’s Participatory Budgeting process where I let the residents of the 49th Ward vote on how to spend the ward’s annual capital improvement budget.

You need only go to one of the Expos. The first Project Expo takes place TONIGHT (Tuesday, September 19th), 7:00 p.m. (complimentary pizza served at 6:30 p.m.) at Sullivan High School, 6631 N. Bosworth (use the main entrance in the middle of the block).

If you can’t make this Expo, you have two others to choose from. The Project Expos will be identical in content, so you need to attend only one.

New art gallery on Devon?

I was walking on Devon and passed by the Lavan Art Gallery. There was a young man painting the lower edge of the building near the sidewalk and I peeked in to look at the beautiful paintings. I asked him if it was open and he said "I am the owner and we are not open to the public". I then asked what the hours were and he said, "it is not open to the public and never will be". I then asked politely if the art was his private collection at which point he dismissed me by saying "have a nice day ma'm ".

Does anyone know what kind of business this is?

  • To clarify, @Spam Alert, the vibe I got from the guy was the same kind of crazy that you see from someone on the CTA bus who goes off shouting at a stranger for no reason. That person was probably having a terrible day and had reasons for feeling anger towards white people in general. But that does not excuse the behavior. If you ask me, it is a kind of mental illness to be unable to recognize another person's humanity due to their skin color.

Rogers Park Wins; Chicago Wins

A federal judge has ruled Attorney General Jeff Sessions cannot follow through with his threat to withhold public safety grant money to Chicago and other so-called sanctuary cities for refusing his order to impose tough immigration policies.

U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber on Friday granted Chicago's request for a temporary "nationwide" injunction. That means the Justice Department can't deny requests for the grant money until Chicago's lawsuit against the agency is concluded. He wrote that Chicago has shown a "likelihood of success" in its arguments that Sessions overstepped his authority with the requirements.

Judge: Grant money for sanctuary cities can't be denied
CHICAGO (AP) -- Attorney General Jeff Sessions can't follow through -- at least for now -- with his threat to withhold public safety grant money to Chicago and other so-called sanctuary cities for refusing to impose new tough immigration policies, a judge ruled Friday in a legal defeat for the Trump administration.

My comment, deleted without reason it was
In the end, what is wrong about deporting illegal immigrants?
What's wrong with deporting those who have no right to be here in the first place?

  • This is about Jefferson Beauregard's politically motivated attempt to withhold public safety grant money from Chicago and other cities across the country. This federal court decision has nothing to do with deportation. The federal judiciary had to tell the United States Attorney General to begin defending the Constitution and stop playing political games. Shameful, but once a political Alabama Senator cozies up with racists you can expect the Alabama United States Attorney General to get political and cozy up with racists.

Woke Up By The Sound of Gunshots A Very Short Time Ago

Called 9-1-1 about 10 min ago because I was woken up by the sound of gunshots coming from the north/northeast of me which would be Howard or Rogers Avenue. The police responded within minutes. But, all was quiet when they went zooming down Rogers Avenue. Checked on my family members who wre sleeping. They are safe. So scary is the thought of a bullet coming through the walls or a window where we live and taking an innocent life of people I love.

ISO : Indoor Lighting Supplies and Plants

Hello,

I'm a houseplant hobby grower and could use more plant grow lights. These can include LEDs, florescent tube lights, workshop lights, aquarium lights, etc. If you have items you don't need, please let me know!

I could also use plant propagation plug trays. This sometimes comes with seed starting kits.

I mainly grow succulents/cacti, orchids, and tillandsia. I'm open to trades.

Thanks!

Nowadays, most Chicago libraries have a staff person dedicated to helping folks with computer problems. You are required to have a current library card and must make an appointment beforehand. I think each session with this person, who is called a cybernavigator, is up to an hour long. When you are arranging for your session, be sure to inquire if the cybernavigator can assist you with your FIRESTICK. I have met with the cybernavigator at Edgewater Library and found her to be knowledgeable, patient, and understanding. Good luck!
