Handy man

Does anyone know of a handy man/plumber for a bathroom leak in Ravens wood? Ive used handyman matters in the past but wanted to try something different.

Thanks in advance

  • MER

I believe it is a pipe that services the upstairs bathroom. I replaced the the wax ring of the upstairs toilet and re-sitted it. The flange wasn't in the best condition. Trying to determine if it isn't the floor around the the upstairs toilet or if it just a leaky pipe. Thank you for all the suggestions.

Chicago's Major Healthcare Systems: Is One Better Than the Others?

I'm trying to evaluate the differences between the major Chicago healthcare systems. There's Advocate, Northwestern, Rush, Loyola, and University of Chicago (and probably others I'm unaware of).

I've been seeing doctors in the Northwestern system for a few years, and I'm less than impressed. Northwestern has a reputation for being "world class," and they've clearly invested millions and millions of dollars in their facilities, which are lovely. I've been seeing doctors in the Northwestern system for a few years, and I'm less than impressed. Northwestern has a reputation for being "world class," and they've clearly invested millions and millions of dollars in their facilities, which are lovely. But the doctors--from generalists to specialists--leave me wanting more. A lot more. I get three minutes with someone who stares at a laptop screen the whole time, hands me a prescription and a referral, and disappears; there's no follow-up, even for more major things like a brain MRI. ZERO follow-up. It's stunning to me how incredibly hands-off the Northwestern staff is.

Most likely every doctor is like this nowadays, as healthcare's two graph points, cost and quality, continue in opposite directions.

BUT...

Do you have an opinion about which system may be better? Do you use one other than Northwestern and have had good experiences? I know this is an impossibly broad question, but I thought I'd ask.

Post Office in 1600 Block of Devon

A few years ago the Postal Service took over the property (auto repair garage) at 1600 Devon for postal parking. Around the perimeter evergreen trees and some leaf bearing trees were planted and it looked very nice. The people at Canines and Felines did a lot of work to keep the Paulina side of the post office looking nice. Now the weeds and un-pruned trees hang over the sidewalk and hinder people walking along sidewalk.
Some of the weeds are three and four feet high.

Neighborhood Dog Walking/Training Services

Hello,
I have recently adopted a rescue puppy approximately 4 months old and was wondering if anyone had some good leads or experiences with a dog walker, any with more than one walk per day? I don't know if some are a package deal but I'm also interested in local trainers or walkers with experience in crate, leash or potty training to help get him acclimated.

  • I know someone who had a handicapped dog that roscoe recess was caught dragging down the street.

  • Paws in Motion! Mariah and her walkers are fabulous.

Happy Eclipse Day

Happy Eclipse Day to everyone. To the eclipsers, to those feeling eclipsed, to the eclipse-friendly, to the eclipse-intolerant...a good day.

Remember not to look straight at it, even with your retro Blues Brothers dark sunglasses no no no. Borrow some welders goggles.

Large Dog Crate Wanted!

If anyone has a large dog crate that they do not use or any other dog related items that they do not need. I am adopting a 2 year old dog tomorrow and need a few things.

  • Andrew Carpenter Realtor Edgewater home owner and Chicago Reator

He may be lab and bluetick coonhound. There is definitely some sort of hound going on because of his ears. He has mixed white and black hair on his chest as well as a little on his muzzle and a tiny bit on his feet. He should be fully grown but he is super skinny. We will feed him to a healthy weight, maybe another 10 lbs.

  • Have fun with him! He has a happy home now!!

Anyone know of a good bar in our neighborhood that will show the McGregor-Mayweather fight?

Most information I've seen online is very generic, or points to bars in Lakeview. I am hoping perhaps OShaughnessys or Wild Goose might be good spots. I can message them but also looking for some unbiased views from my neighbors. Thank you!

Cat in desperate need of rescue!

Does anyone have room in their home for this beautiful, 12 year old cat? She has been stuck in a cage at the Petco at 3122 N. Ashland Avenue for at least 2-3 months now, and she has become extremely depressed. She is not good with dogs, otherwise I would take her. I think she's ok with other cats though. I frequent this pet store, and my heart breaks every time I see her! The shelter that put her there is supposed to rotate the cats every so often, but they have not done so. Someone please help her!

  • WOW! Snarky replies to my comments? You reap what you sow.

I haven’t adopted a kitty in a while and so was unaware that PPAH’s relationship with Petraits is not what it was a decade ago. I stand corrected.

Skunk Smell

If you have been smelling skunk more lately, especially in your apartment building, it is marijuana. Not cigarettes, not the pot we smoked 40 years ago. This skunk marijuana is on the rise right now and gives a very potent high. I don't care what anyone does, just don't involve me, especially by having to smell that stink. Look it up on the Internet, plenty of articles.

  • catlady for the love of cats, lets get along!

your right @oldfashioned, i was walking to the train after work and this guy who was walking in front of me was smoking it from a one hiter i can assume. I see people smoke it everywhere, some look like electric pens and have zero smell. Maybe your neighbors should invest in those.

I just renewed my lease, because I was looking for an apartment in the same budget and couldn't find one that worked for me. However, if you only have the one dog, you might have better luck, because some places that allow dogs have a two pet limit. The two bedrooms for $1,100 were generally located right by the Howard el stop, right by the Wilson el stop, or a garden unit. I only looked for places that were near the CTA. Padmapper had the majority of the listings. Good luck!

Unless you need to be near the red line, go a little further west and look in Bowmanville (west of Andersonville at Foster and Damen) and along Winnemac Park. It's quiet, safe, and has a lot of apartments. We just moved from the area but really liked it while we were there.
