Missing Dog

Hi--our dog got out around Belmont and Kenmore at about 11 AM today (June 27) and we can't find her. Her name is Sorcha and she's a large Belgian sheepdog, about 60 pounds. Please call me at 773-844-3583 if you find her. She has jet black fur and is friendly but skittish and may run away.

  • catlady for the love of cats, lets get along!

Oh no what a beautiful doggy, i will definitley keep an eye out for her. Prayers for a safe return!

  • We found her! Thanks, everyone.

speeding west down wellington from elston between elston and california

i live at the corner of elston and wellington. people speed down from elston. why doesn't wellington have speed bumps? i've had rides almost get hit or been almost hit on my bike or walking.

  • Nick in Irving Park Condo Owner

What is the difference between "almost get hit" and "been almost hit"?

  • Excuse my grammar.... my point is cars go shooting down the street as I am crossing or getting into a car and it is not safe, especially late at night.

Great and not too expensive dog trainer in Lakeview?

Our small 1.5 year old rescue dog is great and for the most part extremely well behaved. Occasionally, though, when we're outside -- she's always on leash -- she'll bark at runners going by when she's startled by them and frightened.
Does anyone know of a really good local (Lakeview) dog trainer iwho isn't wildly expensive, and would be willing to do a session or two to teach me how to handle/help her to change that behavior?
Thank you

  • Sam

Please do research, the bean bag and coin can could also scare and terrify dogs. In some cases make dogs aggressive especially if you are throwing objects at a dog. What works for some may not always work for others.

Help save Sasha

Hello,
Currently trying to help a friend and her dog. Angie recently found out her dog needs a serious operation, but she happens to be struggling at the momment. Please please show support by sharing her campaign,
Thank you for the consideration!

  • chicagoon Short-term memory loss
  • DianeW just nosey

I hope your friend can gather up enough funds for Sasha.

I'm not sure if she's already explored this option but there's a credit card specifically for medical care (humans and animals can use it) and there's no interest for 6, 12 or 24 months depending on the amount financed.

Please tell her to look into applying for a Care Credit card.

  • How is the pup? Did he have the operation?

Gate vandalized... possible break in?

The gate in my backyard was bent in half. Very mysterious. Anyone else see something like this?

If that happened at night, maybe a motion-sensing light in back would help discourage scavengers/teenagers.

Not too long ago, someoned crushed our mailbox off the front wall, after stepping on it while trying to climb up onto our doorway rain canopy, and then into a second floor window, when I was out of town for 36 hours. Luckily, I always keep those front windows double-locked. I now have more lights here set on timers, to make the apt. look occupied, when I'm not here.

Tiny turtles in aquarium at Logan Square Arts Fest?

I saw some tiny turtles in an small aquarium near a dumpster at Logan Square Arts Fest. Any idea where these came from or what they were doing at Arts Fest? Someone in the custodial crew assured me they weren't being thrown away, but I was worried these we brought in by a vendor and disposed of. Any ideas? There were two tiny turtles in a couple inches of water with a bunch of iceberg lettuce in a 1-2 gallon plastic aquarium.

  • Ok, I went back and asked after they were taken away and a different custodial crew member said a vendor gave them to them. Strange what someone was doing with live baby turtles here.

We heard there was an accident and a dog was hit and killed around the time he went missing but we have checked with 311, CACC, various vets shelters and Lost dogs IL and there is no record of him or of a dog involved in a car accident. We still have hope he is out there until we have some answers. Please spread the word and keep an eye out for him. If you see him, do not chase him as he is confused and scared. Sit on the ground and try to give him a treat or softly call his name. I just want my baby home safe and sound, or to have closure if someone witnessed the accident and can confirm it was him. ;(. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

  • Don't give up hope. Never accept what you don't know for sure. If the police confirms the dog, then maybe. But please keep on searching and have faith.

Who the heck is this dog walker that shouldn't be walking dogs in the first place? Please tell us because I have two dogs and use walkers often.

  • Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic...

Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic of your dog to get a more definite answer? What about the drivers of the cars? Could there possibly be some security videos in the area that may have caught your dog in that area around the time of the accident? A possible police car video? One last idea. Could you check w/Streets & San to see if they had to dispose of a deceased dog, on that day. I wonder if they have logs of what they have "picked up", for lack of a better word. I'm sorry if I have repeated what others may have said. Just trying to brainstorm to give you closure.

Former Riverview Park Worker Builds Miniature Working Model Of 'The Chutes'

"Let's Remember Riverview" will be held 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Links Hall, 3111 N. Western Ave. Cost is $25, which includes speakers, live music, food and drink. Tickets can be bought in advance online (click here).

Former Riverview Park Worker Builds Miniature Working Model Of 'The Chutes'
ROSCOE VILLAGE - Once upon a time, the magical kingdom of Riverview enchanted all who passed through its gates. Fifty years after it was razed, the defunct North Side amusement park, which sprawled across nearly 75 acres off Western Avenue, continues to cast a spell over Chicagoans of a certain age, who speak of Riverview with a fondness that borders on reverence.

Landscaping recommendations

Can someone recommend a landscaping company to do some cleanup in my yard and trim 7-8 small bushes? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi we are currently using Kemora landscaping. Great work. Very professional and always on time. (773) 910-1800

  • We just had a great experience with Mariani: https://www.marianilandscape.com/. They got a quick quote and did a really nice job. They were scheduling about 3-4 weeks out when we booked them but perhaps their timing has changed now that the summer is underway?

  • Sue

We live in Roscoe Village and have a 15 year old son who cuts lawns. Not so much experience with the clean up and cutting but always something to learn and I would be more than happy to accompany him and guide him. He is available this weekend. Let me know if you have any interest.

  • Since I have changed my routine to have my stuff delivered to my office the problem has stopped. I decided I can't be buying gifts for the whole city any more.

  • The drivers are very helpful if you ask them to leave it behind your fence, under your porch, behind a couch, etc they're absolutely happy to do it. I work from home so I'm able to grab stuff right away. The only thing I've had taken off my front porch were two chairs. Never found never returned and yes I reported it. So now things are chained.

This is a long shot, but did anyone happen to witness a car hit a pedestrian at Belmont & Albany yesterday around 5:40pmsih and then drive off?

I was hit by a car while walking in the crosswalk of Belmont & Albany and after I got up off the ground, the driver drove around me and sped off. I didn't catch a license plate or make/model of the vehicle, just that it was a black sedan with Lyft/Uber stickers. No one else stopped to help me, and in my shock and torrential downpour I limped home and then headed to the hospital (I'm ok!). I've filed a police report, but without any information on the car/driver, it will probably go no where. I'd love to get this driver out of the ride sharing programs to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Jen Baron JBaron

Notyourmother you bring up a very good point! I rarely use a taxi but would be far more comfortable with them than the ride share programs out there. Too many bad stories on Uber especially. I just don't know that I could trust them.

  • I'm very sorry this happened to you!! With others having this happen, is there a specific time that people seem to be having this problem w/ the crosswalks more often?
