Hank went missing on Friday 5/19 around 2:30PM when he got lose from the dog walker. He was last seen around Roscoe St. and Lake Shore Drive. We heard there was an accident and a dog was hit and killed around the time he went missing but we have checked with 311, CACC, various vets shelters and Lost dogs IL and there is no record of him or of a dog involved in a car accident. We still have hope he is out there until we have some answers. Please spread the word and keep an eye out for him. If you see him, do not chase him as he is confused and scared. Sit on the ground and try to give him a treat or softly call his name. I just want my baby home safe and sound, or to have closure if someone witnessed the accident and can confirm it was him. ;(. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

  • Don't give up hope. Never accept what you don't know for sure. If the police confirms the dog, then maybe. But please keep on searching and have faith.

Who the heck is this dog walker that shouldn't be walking dogs in the first place? Please tell us because I have two dogs and use walkers often.

  • Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic...

Christina~I am so sorry that you have no real closure, either way. You said you've tried every avenue possible, so I assume you checked with the policeman taking the accident report or have read the report? You said there were two witnesses, were you able to show them a pic of your dog to get a more definite answer? What about the drivers of the cars? Could there possibly be some security videos in the area that may have caught your dog in that area around the time of the accident? A possible police car video? One last idea. Could you check w/Streets & San to see if they had to dispose of a deceased dog, on that day. I wonder if they have logs of what they have "picked up", for lack of a better word. I'm sorry if I have repeated what others may have said. Just trying to brainstorm to give you closure.

Lost Dog!

Maizie has been missing since Tuesday night. Her family lives near Webster and Cleveland in Lincoln Park and have been searching all over (and posting the usual places). She is chipped and was wearing her collar. She has also been going through chemo and needs meds, so if you see her please contact her family as soon as possible (she is very friendly and will respond to her name). Reward offered.

Good news everyone! Maizie is back home. A good samaritan found her chained to a tree near Whitney Young high school and called the owners. I'm told that she wasn't in great shape but doesn't seem to have suffered permanent harm.

The bad news is that she is unlikely to have traveled from her gated front yard in Lincoln Park to Whitney by herself. It seems that she was taken from her yard on Tuesday and then abandoned at some point afterwards. Just a gentle reminder to city dog owners (myself included) about leaving your dog unattended (which I do quite often).

Don't mean to hijack the thread Winnemack, but wanted to get the news out to those following this ordeal. Thanks for posting!

  • That's awesome! Her owners are regulars/friends who come into my job often. So glad she's back!

Gate vandalized... possible break in?

The gate in my backyard was bent in half. Very mysterious. Anyone else see something like this?

  • I wish it was facing the alley- that would give me a number of explanations- but the gate is private, off of an unused parking lot/ garage that is also closed in. Very odd.

  • Eileen Dimberg Like our neighborhood people are friendly.

Better make sure house is locked sounds like someone might have been trying to get in and couldn't. Vandalized gate. This is just a guess .

Great and not too expensive dog trainer in Lakeview?

Our small 1.5 year old rescue dog is great and for the most part extremely well behaved. Occasionally, though, when we're outside -- she's always on leash -- she'll bark at runners going by when she's startled by them and frightened.
Does anyone know of a really good local (Lakeview) dog trainer iwho isn't wildly expensive, and would be willing to do a session or two to teach me how to handle/help her to change that behavior?
Thank you

  • joecool

    hi

  • We had a really good experience with Kiki Yablon (http://kikiyablondogtraining.com/), who came recommended by our vet at Family Pet. She charged $150 for an initial 90 min session, and $115 for additional hour-long sessions as needed, with free e-mail support in between sessions. Also, she comes to your house and evaluates the situation as it would occur in your dog's own environment.

I just got this message in my ring Neighborhood Activity so I'm forwarding it out

There’s new activity in my Ring Neighborhood. Check out this video captured by my neighbor! https://ring.com/share/3803961013

  • Since I have changed my routine to have my stuff delivered to my office the problem has stopped. I decided I can't be buying gifts for the whole city any more.

  • The drivers are very helpful if you ask them to leave it behind your fence, under your porch, behind a couch, etc they're absolutely happy to do it. I work from home so I'm able to grab stuff right away. The only thing I've had taken off my front porch were two chairs. Never found never returned and yes I reported it. So now things are chained.

ComEd scam in Bucktown

I've heard of this before but wanted to let you know they are hitting up the hood. I manage a local restaurant and yesterday in the middle of brunch our hostess got a phone call from someone pretending to be from ComEd saying we were months behind on payment (not true of course) and they were coming to shut down service in 30 minutes unless we paid them $1,100. They left a number and I called them back asking when they would be coming so I could arrange for the police to be there as well. They didn't show of course but heads up to all. I'll be calling the AG about this fraud in the morning as well as ComEd!

  • angelranger 47 year Northside resident

Thanks bucktown. I had the door to door 'sales' last week in LV also, wanted "to be sure I was aware of ComEd program something or other." A rumpled suited guy with a dog eared clipboard and badge about 6:30 pm on a weeknight.

Calling to extort cash is quite different. Contacting the AG actually worked for me regarding cramming ATT phone bill. She did indeed reach an agreement and rate reduction as far back as 2008. Report fraud.

  • Lisa Hibbard Avondale/Logan Square Resident

Thanks. I had a visitor last week wanting to see my bill. I closed the door on his face.

I was hit by a car while walking in the crosswalk of Belmont & Albany and after I got up off the ground, the driver drove around me and sped off. I didn't catch a license plate or make/model of the vehicle, just that it was a black sedan with Lyft/Uber stickers. No one else stopped to help me, and in my shock and torrential downpour I limped home and then headed to the hospital (I'm ok!). I've filed a police report, but without any information on the car/driver, it will probably go no where. I'd love to get this driver out of the ride sharing programs to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Jen Baron JBaron

Notyourmother you bring up a very good point! I rarely use a taxi but would be far more comfortable with them than the ride share programs out there. Too many bad stories on Uber especially. I just don't know that I could trust them.

  • I'm very sorry this happened to you!! With others having this happen, is there a specific time that people seem to be having this problem w/ the crosswalks more often?

Lost dog.

A little white poodle / shitzu was found on Christiana between belmont and barry. He is friendly, freshly groomed but has no chip or collar. He has light brown patches on his back. The lady who has him will take him to district 16 police tomorrow. My phone is struggling to upload the image!

  • Thank you. I stopped by my neighbors house this afternoon but nobody was home. I'll go over tomorrow morning to see if they have any news. Thank you so much for helping us!

  • Diana, can you please private message me your email address. I would love to get a copy of your flyer and share it w/ my neighborhood email list. Also, has anyone posted this on next door? Thanks!

Pooping bandit in alley between Irving and Byron

Yesterday I had the privilege to clean someones poop behind my garbage can. They used a pair of blue shorts to wipe. My neighbor said he cleaned some a week ago by his garage. Our alley is the 3900 block between Christiana and Kimball. I've posted before about the issues with the drunk bums that frequent around Irving and Kimball. I'm guessing one is using our alley as a toilet. This was disgusting. Any advice?

  • These are new laws. They were not ineffect when I were not inacted when I called. Good to know they are there now! Thanks!

This is not a new law. It has been on the books for decades.

As soon as he saw me the burglar jumped about 10 feet in the air and took off, I tried to keep sight of him but he escaped down an alley. The police responded promptly report filed, suspect at large. Be safe and AWARE. If he had more malicious intentions I would not be writing this post....if something seems off, trust your instincts, call the police, do whatever. In the days previous I had noticed an abnormal amount of people ringing my buzzer in the middle of the day. This guy came right through the front door while I was home, you can never be too prepared.

The same thing has been happening to me on the 1600 block of N. Leavitt for almost a year, though I have yet to catch anyone in the act. The thief who enters my home picks the lock and goes upstairs while I am downstairs, steals items from closets or storage areas and slips out undetected. It may take a day or two before I discover what has been stolen.
The thief takes what he thinks will go unnoticed and leaves minimal signs of entry. His favored hours seem to be 10 am to 3pm.

  • I'm not sure if this is of interest to anyone but we have these on our front and back door. I work from home and my grandfather (ex vet/ex chicago robbery detective) has these in his home. They'd stop someone from getting in with a lock pick and he (and my husband) tested more aggressively to see if it would withstand a door kick (we think so). It may be worth investing in for safety while you're home.

Roaming dogs in Avondale

Three loose friendly dogs approached me near Drake and Elbridge tonight. Two pitbull types and a German Shephard. The pitties seemed young but older than puppy age, and they were both wearing collars. The German Shephard did not look like he had a collar. They were travelling as a pack. I wish I had been able to round them up but maybe this info will help someone.
