Two broken legs, abandoned by owner

I normally do only cat rescue but, on my way home from PAWS Intake on 26th Street, I came across a dog who had been hit by a car. I couldn't just drive past.

Diamond suffered two broken back legs after being hit by a car on Friday 8/18. The driver slowed down to see what he hit, but he did not stop. The dog laid on the side of the road unable to move. A group of young men hovered over her, discussing what to do.

Amazon HQ2

Is Chicago in line to win the Amazon HQ2 sweepstakes? How would this affect the city? The Lincoln Yards site along the Chicago River has been most talked about. The site will have a new Metra stop, water taxi and 606 trail extension. So what about housing? The addition of 50,000 jobs will obviously increase demand. In the seven years since Amazon established it's first HQ in Seattle, home prices are up 83% and the average median price for a home is 700k. Average median price for Chicago is 306k. Anyone owning a home now could see a huge jump in equity. Same for anyone who buys before Amazon announces the winner next year.

  • SCC Northwest sider my whole life.

In the pockets of city unions.

You mean the same city unions whose members are required to live in the city?

Likewise, the county union employees who are required to live in the county?

So you're saying those wages are earned by your neighbors?

  • I'm sure Rahm is doing this out of the goodness of his own heart. Right! Take a wild guess what companies will be involved in the construction? Kinney, Pepper, Walsh, etc. All donors to Rahm's campaign fund! All vendors will be connected also. Can you say Midway & O'Hare?

Composting

My dear wife wants to start composting. I called the Alderman, but they said they do not have any. Does anyone know of a cheap resource or a giveaway of compost barrels?

A container is not necessary for composting. Just make a pile in an inconspicuous place. Easy peasy.

Suspicious alley activity - narcotics?

This happens in the AM before Foreman HS starts, right after school and in the evenings. We asked the person in the alley tonight if they lived there, got a nasty response and then he took off. I have reported this information to the police.

Description of person involved – Hair: Black, curly, Top: Black shirt, Bottom: Black pants, Shoes: white gyms, Age: 19-20, Build: medium, Race: Hispanic, Sex: Male, Other details: starting a mustache

Soccer at Kilbourn

Just wanted to let parents of 7yo - 9yo know that there are open spots in the soccer class at Kilbourn Park Tuesdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, these classes are usually always at full capacity, but this year it looks like there was a problem with the online registration, I went to the park to register my child in person. The cost of $50 will cover the uniform and classes once a week until the first week of December. So if you have a bored child between those ages send them to the park to burn some energy.

  • Sue F. Long time resident

Is this indoor or outdoor soccer? Instruction only or are there games? Thanks!

  • It is a mini league, and they will play both indoor and outdoor weather permitting.

Lost Cat and REWARD North Kolmar Ave and Cornelia Ave!!

Heartsick over my cat who went missing Sunday September 10th, due to construction work on outside of home. Recent rescue and not microchipped yet and both of us battling illness and truly are lifelines within each other. Please find it in your heart to help with ANY information and contact James at 917-817-9691

  • Whereabouts did he go missing from? Also, is his muzzle that dark orange or is it white? I saw an orange cat on the 3000 block of Troy st a few days ago who looked like that but the area around his mouth was white, wondering if your picture darkened the area.

  • I sent you a message from Nextdoor. Check your spam folder if you haven't gotten it and email me back if you want help looking or hanging signs. You're not that far from me. Good luck!

Shooting on Warwick & Marmora

On 09/15 at approx. 11:30 a.m. gunfire erupted coming from 5858 W. Warwick. Heard two volleys of 5 to 7 shots. Within minutes our neighborhood was swarming with police from 16th. District. The efficiency and professionalism shown by our officers was reassuring that they were indeed protecting and serving us well. The location of the incident is now being watched by many eyes of disturbed residents.
Myself, I am confident that our neighborhood is indeed secure and the drug dealers are being watched closely by all...24/7.
THANK YOU TO ALL 016 OFFICERS WHO RESPONDED. YOU ARE AWESOME!

  • We had the same problem but with drugs a they got evicted because of the constant 911 calls. It works stay on it.

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

The 911 call taker will ask you your name but all you have to say is that you wish to remain anonymous and your call will still be dispatched to the patrol cars

Is this unreasonable? - neighborhood kids

So our next door neighbors and their kids think they own the block. They have no respect for others' property. Aside from their garbage ending up in our yard (from eating/drinking soda and throwing the wrapping/cans on the ground or over the fence on our property), our bigger issue is with them causing physical damage to our home. So our next door neighbors and their kids think they own the block. They have no respect for others' property. Aside from their garbage ending up in our yard (from eating/drinking soda and throwing the wrapping/cans on the ground or over the fence on our property), our bigger issue is with them causing physical damage to our home. I understand that kids are kids - we have a 4 year old, but they insist on playing soccer or baseball either in front of our home or in their driveway. Either way, the balls always end up hitting our home and windows. We just replaced all of our windows including a large bay window (which cost a pretty penny) and we are getting ready to put new siding on. But I'm constantly out there talking to them about not playing ball in the sidewalk and hitting our house; there is a field 3 blocks away. These kids (ranging from 7-13) don't give 2 sh*ts about what I tell them (I'm always being polite and respectful when I speak to them). Their parents also don't care because they are usually outside and can see that the balls are hitting our house, cars, etc. and yet, they don't do anything about it. they only yell at the kids if the ball hits their home/car.

Anyways, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect others to respect your property and not cause damage to it. Is there anything else I can do? This may seem petty to some but it really pisses me off.

New Lead Partners for Northwest Portage Walking Museum
The American Indian Center (AIC) and the Chicago Public Art Group (CPAG) have joined PPNA as lead partners to work on realizing the walking museum. Their assistance is key as they bring important expertise and organizational capacity to this project. CPAG has applied for a grant from the Chicago Community Trust to fund two museum installation sites at the Chicago and Des Plaines Rivers and will learn in late September if the grant has been approved. Together with the AIC and CPAG, we have convened a steering committee with representatives from other organizations that have also joined the effort to advance this project.

Northwest Portage Walking Museum Represented at Chicago Biennial
PPNA is also excited to announce that Perkins+Will, a Chicago architectural and design firm, has offered their design services to support the walking museum. They have taken up the idea in a big way, creating design concepts for the walking museum that will be on display as part of the Chicago Biennial Between States exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Foundation Gallery at 224 S. Michigan Ave. The exhibit is free and open to the public from September 19th to December 31st and we encourage all to attend.

Call your county commissioner to tell them to vote no for the sugar tax

There is a vote at next weeks county board meeting. Please call your commissioner and tell them to vote NO for this tax. This tax is nothing more than a tax to keep the bloated county government going.

  • You should be really upset with the Federal Government for givings subsidies for corn syrup. Your money is being used to create the sugary drinks and then you're being taxed additionally for their purchase.

    That's double taxation baby!

  • Sign the petition.

  • You probably heard the retaliation. They must of missed. Nothing else reported in the area on the 6th

  • It was fireworks. Retaliation? Lol I hope that was a bad joke.

Really that bad?

Good morning everyone! I read EveryBlock daily for Portage Park / Six corners. Lately I have been seeing more and more comments about the area going downhill. Is this the case?

It seems things are happening that are positive in the Six Corners area. New small businesses etc. (onviously with the exception of the bank hole). The neighborhoods still seems quiet and contain a very tight community feeling which is hard to find. What are your thoughts?, I am interested!

City plays the race card to get things done and people arguing ,go walk at midnight down some of the side streets and wake up . It's not about race its bad elements and crime. The alderman should not have police protection for them or their families if it is safe like they assume it to be wont be a problem.

  • Sue Portage Park-er

I did report the one on Long & Byron via the website, also the one north of it on the building east side of Long.
