They want charities and the Alderman to do something. They want more cops and social services. But they don't want taxes on soda pop. They don't want taxes on plastic bags. They don't want any taxes raised. They don't like it when the government gives their money to other people, whether they are teachers, cops, or mental health service providers.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

  • Nick in Irving- raising taxes doesn't solve the problem! The city and state have been bad with our tax dollars for decades.Democrats or Republicans, doesn't matter, both are to blame in our city and state's mess. But you do realize the Dems have been running the show for a while....

More taxes will just equal more dumb spending. I'd rather keep my money and spend it where I choose, especially locally in our neighborhood and city. More businesses will sprout up, higher home values and most important, jobs! The question is will these individuals stop taking all that money they get, stop spending it on booze, cigs, drugs, etc, maybe rent a little place, get cleaned up, and work for a living and build a little pride.

Of course more should be done for the homeless. Especially for our Vets. Mental disorders and chemical dependency are major culprits. Personal responsibility is key!

Parking Spaces for Rent?

Hey Everyone,

My Fiance and I just moved to Albany Park (Sunnyside and Drake) and parking is a nightmare. It has been taking 20+ minutes on average to find a parking spot every night. I'm looking for 1 or 2 parking spaces for rent that are close to our location.

  • It's really terrible over there, All the illegal spots even get filled. Welcome to the neighborhood and you may definitely want to use your bike for short trips!

  • There would be more parking spaces if cars would be ticketed for no city stickers. On one block example 3400 W Belle Plaine there were 3 cars without Chicago city stickers. On 4000 N Drake there was 3 cars without Chicago city stickers. There's always a truck on the 4000 N Kimball block parked over night without stickers not to mention all the trucks and non passanger vans parked on residential streets that are not suppose to park overnight on them.

Jeff Park Affordable Housing Opponent John Garrido Caught Violating City Ethics Law

John Garrido (CPD Lt. John Garrido/Former losing 45th Ward aldermanic candidate John Garrido/Leading outspoken opponent of the Jefferson Park affordable housing project John Garrido/(Likely) fake EveryBlock name-user John Garrido) VIOLATED the city's Ethics ordinance, per a report released June 15,2017: See the list of names, John Garrido is number 28, on the list linked from this 6/15/17 City Press Release:

  • I am sure since there is a record of not filing timely, john garrido would incur any consequence in not filing timely. I do not believe he filed late intentionally for any sort of malicious intent on affordable housing.

now arena on the other hand, your hero has done some shady things in regard to affordable housing project, misleading constituents and some questionable zoning changes, but lets not mention those since they benefit your agenda.

  • R.R. I'm on that list what's the big deal the city tells you after the deadline.I have 1. question how come Aldermen Christopher Teliaferro is on the list?????but you don't mention that but you bass a police officer???? Get a life Mr 5150.

Reliable Auto Mechanic?

Good morning neighbors,

Can anymore recommend a mechanic in the area for typical repairs and maintenance? Perhaps a place near Lawrence or Pulaski. Thanks in advance!

  • Royal Automotive on Elston/Central. Check out the YELP reviews. They don't lie! Awesome, friendly, honest company. My go to for years and through 3 cars. I've referred many friends and they all love the company as well.

  • Bville Cat Lady "ironic" pedant

If it's Honda or Acura, Haas on Montrose just west of Pulaski is wonderful. Been going there for about 9 years. Trustworthy, Honda trained, and reasonably priced.

I am CPR certified, have excellent references with reasonable rates and I'm flexible with parents work schedules.

Our daily activities include music-time, play-time and story-time, plus plenty of outdoor time in our beautiful gated and grassy courtyard. In my daycare each child receives all the love, attention and one-on-one care they need unlike some of those huge daycare facilities. Please message me so you can come by and see my beautiful setup for yourself.

Saw a stray dog with red collar at Elston and belle plaine about 20 min ago.

Looked like a red fox. Skiddish. Would not come to me. Even when my dog was around.

  • Saw this dog yesterday afternoon around Montrose & Avers, heading south, in your direction. Would not come to me either, but apparently a lot of people are trying to catch this dog.
Post to Nextdoor.com also, if you see him again.

Do any of my neighbors have a 'drop trap' I can borrow?

I am wondering if anyone has a drop trap I can borrow. I have tried to use my regular humane trap, but the feral cat I take care of has successfully eluded it, and he is now injured and needs medical care. They are a bit pricey, and just thought I'd see if a fellow neighbor has one I can borrow before dropping the $$. Thanks!

  • You might try PAWS.

  • They sell them on Amazon. I'm ordering one myself now for the ferals in the area in case I run into a situation and need it. Glad you brought this up and reminded me. I hope you find one soon and get your cat in for care.

LOST Black Cat Lawndale Ave. near Eugene Field Park

Our indoor black male cat, Gogo, escaped last night. No collar or chip. He is normally friendly and bold but might be scared. He has his claws. He is fairly large and slender. We are on Lawndale close to Eugene Field Park, which is north of Argyle.

  • The OP posted this cat has been found.

  • ECM

Yes, and thank you, everyone for your concern and help! Happily we found Gogo in good shape hiding quite far down the alley - he had been out 2 nights. I bought a collar and had a tag engraved for him today and will continue to keep him inside as always, but he is a determined one and does try to escape. I doubt that he learned his lesson!

Neighborhood rating.

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask all of you about the neighborhood. I'm currently looking at an apartment near Pulaski and foster but I've heard from people I know that this is not the. Eat area to live in. For the people who actually do live around here how would you rate this area as far a safety and crime? Any feedback would be grately appreciate it! Thank you

I've lived near Foster and Pulaski(just SE of it) for over 35 years. I will tell you that the safety levels are really on a block by block basis. Blocks with nothing but apartment complexes, you can expect more gang bangers and crime in general. I would stick to blocks with a better mix of homes and apartments. Just 10-15 years ago, shootings were very infrequent in this area. That's changed quite a bit however. Gun shots are a weekly occurrence culminating in much more frequent in the summer months. Being close to the Brown line is nice, however having to walk towards Lawrence and Kimball to get there has always been dangerous, more so at night. I would generally say around Foster and Pulaski, staying N and NW of that intersection would be safest but probably limited in apartment buildings.

Great place to eat nearby at 3401 W. Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club.

Introducing Myself

Good Neighbors!

I would like to introduce my wife and I to the neighborhood. We recently purchased a rehabbed multi family property in the area and are actively taking on the role of live-in landlords and (naive) property investors. Coming from the burbs has been a measurable change but we are excited to set our roots here in Albany Park. Thanks for your time.

Cheers,
PJ

People who run a rigged game recognize a bust out when they see one.

The state reported $99.4 million in Mega Millions sales and $208 million in Powerball sales within the 2016 budget year.

Powerball, Mega Millions to drop Illinois due to state's budget crisis
The association that runs the popular Powerball lottery and Mega Millions games will drop Illinois at the end of June without a budget agreement. Concern over the state of Illinois' fiscal condition prompted that decision by the Multi-State Lottery Association, according to internal Illinois Lottery communications.
