Chicago Drivers Are Getting A Bit More Leeway On Running Red Lights
Today looks like it was a win for both advocates of safe streets and opponents of nickel-and-dimed revenue generation. The city announced that it would raise the grace period for cars passing through a red light-to the joy of Chicago drivers-while keeping that grace period at a safe and reasonable length-to the joy of Chicago pedestrians who enjoy remaining in one piece while crossing an intersection.

  • Here's the link to your statute regarding driving too slowly, Mr Bob:

"...except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation of his vehicle or in compliance with law."

So doesn't a driver get to determine what's safe?

Also, read Part (b) about a regulatory authority determining what's slow, and posting a sign to limit the slow speed. Like seen on expressways. I've never seen such a sign in Chicago and I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for driving too slow.

Stray dog seen 1800 block of North Newcastle

This male pit bull was seen wandering around the 1800 block of North Newcastle this AM. He has a collar but no tags. Seems well behaved and is obedient. Can't take him into our home cuz we have another dog and a cat. He appeared a little malnourished so I gave him some kibble and he's still hanging around the neighborhood at 07:00 Wednesday the 29th.

Study: Red light cameras make Chicago streets safer; some may be relocated
Chicago's red light cameras help make driving safer in Chicago, according to a study released Monday by the Northwestern University Transportation Center. The report found "significant safety benefits" and recommended the continuation of the program. The study recommended that the city extend the time allowed before issuing a ticket once the light turns red.

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

Don't speed, don't run red lights and you won't get a ticket and it won't cost you anything. The only people who complain are those that get tickets, and only those who break the law get tickets.

    Slow down, save lives.

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

"I got hit on 87th Dan Ryan because I didn't make a complete stop before I made a right-hand turn."

    Was this a surprise?

Study: Red Light Cams Improve Safety, Have "Spillover Effect" on Other Intersections
While red light cameras have been proven to save lives in other cities, in recent years Chicago's program has come under constant criticism. Some of it has been warranted, such as the Chicago Tribune's investigative series that exposed the bribery scheme involving former camera vendor RedFlex and Chicago Department of Transportation official John Bills.

Some of the lights need their timing checked...seems in some areas the count down from 5 is more a 1/2 second than what it is supposed to be.

4 robberies in two hours???

That is crazy. Who does that and how do they get away with this act??? Unfortunately CPD does not respond immediately. I seen the store employee on the news and she said the police are never around. And why is that??? Such a nice neighborhood and these things are happening. We have to watch out for each other. We need to keep this neighborhood safe especially for the children.

Bullet grazes woman's leg as she sleeps in NW Side home
A woman was hit by gunfire while sleeping inside her Montclare neighborhood home early Saturday on the Northwest Side. The 19-year-old was asleep on a couch when shots were fired about 4 a.m. outside the house in the 2900 block of North Sayre, according to Chicago Police. A bullet grazed her calf.

  • So were these brain stems shooting AT the house? Did the shot go through a window? Was there only one shot? Was this home the same one where shots were exchanged previously? Many questions, but of course no answers as usual in this cr*p city.

Lost Dogs Illinois is a great help!

I'm a huge dog lover and I can tell you that the power of Lost Dogs Illinois is real! Not only that , we are a community and a few years ago a young lady had her Yorkie stolen out of her yard in Brickyard neighborhood on the day she moved in. With the power of good people knocking on doors - we got him back. Many times people will help look for your dog so please clearly headline and post when your dog is found! It's only fair.
