ABC's Coverage of Jackson Bark

Only one detail needs clarity. JBark isn't directly threatened by the golf course, it's the driving range, which resides nextdoor to the south. For some bizarre reason their proposing an expansion to the north when it would be easier and cheaper to expand it to the south. ...and would also bring it closer to the golf course. For further details review JBark's counter proposals (recently updated with a third option). http://www.jacksonbark.com/proposals.html

South Side dog park's future unclear
Inside the aptly named Jackson Bark, tails are wagging and the dogs' owners are smiling too. "It has the agility course, everything you pretty much need," said dog owner Marshall Jones. "You're right across from the lake. When it's really hot out you get the lake breeze," added another regular, Lenda Mason.

Thank you so much for the Jackson Bark. There are so many dogs in this area, and unlike most dog parks there is actually something for dogs to do here. Agility is great exercise for them. I would be very happy to help save the Jackson Bark exactly where it is. Why should your hard work (at no cost I might add) be thrown aside? Let me know what I can do to help. This is a place worth saving, and the time is now!

Followup--Thanks To Everyone For The Help In Apartment Hunting

Greetings!! I wanted to follow up with all the posters that assisted me in my Hyde Park apartment search.

It's funny how things turn out. While I didn't get a job with the previous City of Chicago department I interviewed with, I did get hired by another department in the city with a higher salary (go figure). Unfortunately, around the time I started looking for places to rent, everything available within my price range ended with me being "warehoused" apartment-wise, particularly in the Hyde Park area. Been there, done that. I used multiple sources, getting about thirty potential rentals, and then "whittling down" to 7-8 units I saw over a two-day weekend. I ended up getting an upstairs flat in a two unit building in the Norwood Park neighborhood. I'll be moving in ten days and start my new job with the City the last week of July.

I plan to stay in my new place for at least two years. During that period, I'll get to know the city better, and maybe future renting opportunities will become available in Hyde Park. I'm not crossing the area off, but I had to get a rental lease and present it to HR at least ten days before I started the new job. In that sense, I lucked out in getting a newly rehabbed apartment (two years old) that was in great condition, and real close to the Jefferson Park Blue Line.

Thanks again for all the help.

Peace.

Free lunch program new addition to some Hyde Park schools - hpherald.com
By JOSEPH PHILLIPS Staff Writer The U.S. Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the State of Illinois Board of Education have administered and funded free lunches for 10 selected sites in the Hyde Park area and other sites across the city. Thanks in an effort to promote their "2017 Rise
    http://hpherald.com

  • In what way then does providing lunch take away from education? How does giving food kids negatively impact their ability to learn, or the ability of the school to teach? Teaching self reliance is one thing, but again, those who benefit most from free lunch would be those who aren't in a position to be self reliant in the first place.

  • The blatant disregard for the children who had no choice in being here is sickening, especially since I assume most ppl know that school is often the only place where children get balanced meals. The 2 of you are speaking from a a place of privilege, and its quite disgusting. So bourgeoisie .wont be able to teach these kids anything on an empty a&& stomach.

Neighborhoods divided into Classes

I'm just curious. When growing up in Hyde Park there was just Hyde Park. Then there was a decision to divide Hyde Park into a East Hyde Park. So how come there is no West Hyde Park, South Hyde Park and North Hyde Park? Why is there a East Hyde Park? Just curious!
