  • Positive Social Emotional Citizens

Mrs. Storino is asking for $248.88:
My students need books on social emotional learning like "But it's Not My Fault" and "That Rule Doesn't Apply To Me", to help create healthy relationships in our community.

Is anybody else tired of all the M-80 bombs going off. our neighbors had a ton of these, and lit them all off next our house. These things would fill our house with a bright green flash and then KABOOM, 2 minutes would go by, and then flash KABOOM.. we asked them to stop, they became very indignant and feel they have the right to do whatever they want because its a magical holiday, and somehow this makes them really great americans by destroying the environment of the country they claim to love. we're not talking regular fireworks, just bombs that shake the whole block. these things are really dangerous and destructive. Kids are still walking the neighborhood lighting these things off randomly.
I think its really perverted when people claim to love something so much, but spend much of their time destroying it. Fireworks create an enormous amount of pollution and not many people clean up the debris. flocks of birds fly till they die of exaustion or crash into something. Dogs go nuts and have to be sedated. I'd think my wonderful neighbors must be totally senseless from being so close. the debris reminds me of the dead baby robin hanging upside down in our backyard a couple of weeks ago, was tangled up in a piece of ribbon that had been attached to a helium balloon that got released into the sky. so sad .
Sometimes events can bring people together. in this case its just the opposite, we called the police. when they finally came they claimed they couldnt really do anything, and actually it made the situation worse. we now really dislike our neighbors and they think we are the bad guys. this has actually made me think about getting one of those firearm permits because i'm worried about our "good American" neighbors, with biblical names, coming after me. They seem more Taliban, than american.
Public firework shows are one thing and will always have its place in our culture, but continuous bomb detonation is different. Does this make me un-american?

I agree with you all. Unfortunately we, the civic minded, are a minority in a sea of ignorant and classless individuals. I had 4 houses (3 on my block and 2 across the alley) setting off M-80s and Silver Salutes. One household was throwing these explosives in a 90 yr old lady's front lawn. I had these things going off in front of my house as well as in my alley-and still do. Common sense is lost on these people, let alone common courtesy. Don't get me started on the blasting music you can hear with your windows closed every time they cook out. Ignorance-it's an epidemic.

  • Can anyone be kind enough to tell me if on 38th and Washtenaw across from the school would be a fairly safe place to live? I'm considering an apartment on the corner there. It's nice and clean but getting conflicting info about that block. It appears to be fine to me.

  • On the 4th, there was a bunch on skate boards that lit bombs on every block. Yes, sick of it too.

Falco's fails inspection

Falco's has long been my go to spot for pizza, but after reading they failed their health inspection i'm looking for somewhere new. i dont think there are any excuses for all of the violations. DISGUSTING..... My guess is the owner is just plain cheap, and sometimes i get the feeling that they dont treat their employees very well, either. they seem to do a good business, and should be able to do better. I'm ready for a change.
Does anybody have a recommendation for an alternative? I'm all ears.

  • I like Pizza Nova food, but not their workers. But, their rib tips, pizza and their chicken tenders are delicious. I use to live there, but the people behind the counter know nothing about customer service.

  • What a shame about Falco's. Sounds like owners have no experience and shouldn't be in the business. They clearly don't know how to manage and train employees. Good training and strong management set up a restaurant for success.
