Lagging Left Turns Would Improve Crosswalk Safety at Complex Intersections

CDOT points to a successful lagging left at Huron Street and Fairbanks Court in Streeterville, near Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Previously, drivers were “unable to turn left” because people...

  • lag the "walk" sign

  • Here's a great money making opportunity for the city: Put cameras over itersections like Erie and Orleans, where during the afternoon rush hour, the drivers clog the said intersection by "blocking the box" or entering the intersection with insufficient room to accommodate their car and thus blocking the cars on the intersecting street from passing through. This isn't the only intersection in the city with this problem, but Erie and Orleans is the main Ontario bridge (Kennedy) feeder.

Steve Niketopoulos for 2nd Ward Alderman

So who is this Steve guy? :)
For years, my goal as a community leader was to create a place where neighbors can talk about what's going on while also educating each other about how to find solutions. I’m proud to say that I have joined over 10,000 neighbors together in online and in-person discussions. As a result, neighbors are working closely together to identify problems in their neighborhoods.
After so many successes, I was asked to consider running for the 2nd Ward Alderman. I'm not a politician, I'm a neighborhood volunteer. But that's why I was asked. I have no connections to Chicago machine politics. I'm an independent. I want to bring the same ideas to the ward that I've done with my community work. I have built trust in my community and think that is exactly what the new 2nd ward needs.
If you’re interested in seeing me not just run for alderman, but actively help each community, please follow along at www.stevefor2ndward.com.

Ald. Reilly wants to phase out garish signs on Michigan Ave.

Natarus said the reaction to signs and displays along the 800 block of North Michigan motivated the crackdown. At the time, the block was occupied by Filene’s Basement, Victoria’s Secret and Border’s Books and Music.

“I’m less focused on north of the river than I am about addressing a lot of clutter south of the river. There’s going to be a lot of new construction— at 360, 333, 152 and 200 North Michigan. As they’re tenanting retail spaces, this will bring a higher design standard for signage,” he said.
