Helicopter

Wonder why there's a helicopter circling Belmont Cragin. It's been with a spotlight for at least 30 minutes now going in circles.

Ald. Reboyras (29th) seeking opinion on medical marijuana dispensaries

Received an email from Ald. Ariel Reboyras's office saying that he had been approached by people interested in opening up medical marijuana dispensaries in the 29th ward, and so he is seeking feedback from constituents. From the email:

"To date, I have been approached by representatives looking to open up a dispensary in the 30th Ward's Avondale and Portage Park communities. I would like to hear your thoughts and views regarding this topic. Your support in providing me your insights by Friday, September 19th would be greatly appreciated. You can either email me at ward30@cityofchicago.org, or contact my office at 773.794.3095."

  • Isnt he the 30th ward alderman? why would he be concerned with the 29th ward?

  • Nevermind. email says 30th but you wrote 29th. In any case, what laws or city ordinances apply to dispensaries? anyone know?

  • Pat Belmont Central homeowner

Oh yeah, you're right. Sorry for the confusion. Just replace 29th with 30th above.

Silly Everyblock won't let me delete or edit my post, of course.

How does this happen in America!!!

This story was shared by a coworker this morning. A mother that is doomed to die due to her illegal status. Her children will have no home or a place once she is gone. Her children are half Mexican and half Puerto Rican and father absent due to her disease... Unfuckenbelievable!!! Please help Mari with any donations or please attend Sept 21 at 12pm for a gathering on her behalf. Mari is currently being evicted because she is in her last stages of cancer and cannot work. All I can think about is what happens to the kids!!! Jesus!

  • This is truly sad, does she have other family members they might be able to stay with??

  • MakeChicagoSafe Please keep our Chicago Safe

I have no idea but I have started acquiring more information about this unfortunate woman. There really needs to be better laws put in place to protect and secure children. I know I can't save the world but if I can make a difference in any child's life I want to. And as far as the father living somewhere in Humboldt park with his new girlfriend, he should be thrown in prison for being a dead beat!!!

  • I'm sorry, but I really doubt she is doomed to die because she is undocumented like you said. But her and the children getting evicted, not having the money for rent is due to her undocumented status since if she was documented could get TANF which would help some, but...

I'm sorry, but I really doubt she is doomed to die because she is undocumented like you said. But her and the children getting evicted, not having the money for rent is due to her undocumented status since if she was documented could get TANF which would help some, but probably still not be enough to live on.

Re. there should be better laws to protect and secure children. There are, but the father doesn't seem to want to take responsibility and no law in heaven or earth can make him take responsibility. Actually, since he is Puerto Rican, she could have gone to one of those free legal clinics to have his wages garnished for child support. Yes, I know, too late now, but one shouldn't wait til one's roof is falling down to get a scum bag to take responsibility. It's not that I don't have empathy, have a ton of it, but.... . Maybe I'll go to that fundraiser. .
