Holiday Burglars

My friend told me that his cousin's house was burglarized on Thanksgiving Day. It occured during the day and the burglars cut the phone lines thus disabling the alarm system. The jewelry that was stolen from the bedroom exceeds the amount that the insurance will cover.

My friend told me that his cousin's house was burglarized on Thanksgiving Day. It occured during the day and the burglars cut the phone lines thus disabling the alarm system. The jewelry that was stolen from the bedroom exceeds the amount that the insurance will cover.
Protect yourself by making sure your alarm system has a cellular back-up. Contact your alarm service. Then make sure that you have all your jewelry appraised and photographed. Contact your insurance company and increase your policy coverage, if needed.
When going out to parties on major holidays like Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, hide your valuables someplace other than the bedroom. Burglars only have several minutes to ransack your house, so they always hit the bedrooms. Nobody expects to get robbed, but it happens. Always be prepared for the worst.

Frozen pipes

We are entering the deep freeze again and the possibility of frozen water pipes. This January during the deep freeze, a 1/2 copper pipe that runs hot water to my shower froze. I tried everything to thaw it, including a hair dryer.
Then a friend of mine told me about "Electric Water Pipe Heat Cable" and it worked great. All of these years I had never heard of it. It's simple, strap the cable on the pipe & plug it...

Then a friend of mine told me about "Electric Water Pipe Heat Cable" and it worked great. All of these years I had never heard of it. It's simple, strap the cable on the pipe & plug it in. In a couple of hours, all was well. I bought mine at Home Depot & its made by Frost King. I'm sure that there are several types available on the internet. Hopefully you won't get any frozen pipes but if you do, this works.
