Pls. don't let an unfortunate incident stop you from attending the Jefferson Park Sunday Market. It's wonderful just to have it in our neighborhood. If you feel you have to be extra careful, mention it to that vendor and, I am sure, he/she will be glad to make things right. Please come again.

  • Merril Jefferson Park Sunday Market manager

And actually the vendor did discover a problem with the scale, fixed it & had a test weight handy today in an effort to cooporate and put people at ease.

People's Gas shut off my gas

So I had a PG guy come out to do an inspection - he identifies a leak, another guy comes out and shuts off the gas. Says have a contractor open up your wall and a plumber fix the leak and call us when it's all done. WTF? Who do I call? I have no way to cook or dry our laundry :( And People's Gas won't give us any names of companies that could help.

Thuis Playlot - Lavergne/Lawrence Will you come?

Thuis Playlot @ 4759 N. Lavergne Ave. is being renovated. I'd love to take my kids there since it's so close to our house, but I am deathly afraid of crossing Lawrence at the Lavergne/Lawrence intersection. I honeslty think that the inability to safely cross the street is one of the major reasons this playlot is very underutilized. Anyone have any thoughts on what can be done?

Pop Up Table Space Available - Now you can rent a table for just one month

Attention local craft and food artisans! We have cleared out our center aisle to make room for our latest addition - pop up market space!! Now you can rent a table for a month, setup your goods, and we will sell them for you!

Table space is approximately 4' x 2' and there are three tables total. The table fee is $100 for the month. There is a sales commission fee of 10% + 3% to cover credit card transactions. The first open slot is August but you can move in as early as July 18th. At this time, we aren't accepting any jewelry.

This option is open to anyone currently selling on consignment or for any new artisans. The idea is to change the center aisle every month and give different artisans a chance to showcase their work.

In addition to the new table space, we also have one booth available for rent - this is for long term rental (versus the tables which are short term).

Please contact us for more info: market@localgoodschicago.com.

Traffic signal planned for 6100 N. Central (at driveway leading to Edgebrook Clubhouse)

Some ECA members said that they were unaware of changes in bike trail extension. They say that trail will run along "backyard" of Old Edgebrook. Alternate trail plan by advisory committee presented at July 10 meeting, but county forest preserve district is planing to move forward with its plan.

Airplane traffic is back?

Is it just me or did we have quiet skies for a few months and now the planes are back? Does this have to do with the complaints about the new runways? Are they not being used any more? I am off Lawrence between Cicero and Milwaukee.

Elston Ave police incident

Ok so I am enjoying the late night motorcycle ride and I notice on Elston about 3-4 blocks closed off, dozens of squad cars. Anyone know what happened? All I know is it was not a traffic accident

  • The guy hit a bunch of cars on the highway, then came the wrong way down Marmora and hit a car on Elston

  • I saw this the crashes on the ramp on Wilson. This guy was not drunk. He was crashing people on purpose. He most have been on meth or PCP or something like that.

    See my post above.

Expectant parents in Jefferson Park?

I'm interested in meeting new or expecting parents in the Jefferson Park area. My husband and I are expecting our first at the end of February and would love to connect with nearby neighbors. We'd also be interested in future playdates, sharing day care responsibilities, or starting a babysitting co-op.

  • Ugh! Little Bloom Daycare and Irma was the worst experience ever. I am glad to have taken my 8 month old out of there (after a tortorous 8 weeks there) and isnt it interesting that I cant find her anywhere when I search on google! Id like to leave a review on that home "daycare".

  • My daughter is older now, but when she was small, Mamapedia (a free blog) was a lifesaver. There is advice from millions of moms, like birthday party ideas, parenting ideas, recommendations on a local doctor, etc. The local parents group is a great idea, and I wish I had time for it back then. Anyway, you might find this to be a helpful addition to your group. http://www.mamapedia.com/

Have a Question for Your Alderman, John Arena? Ask it here!

What local issues matter to you? This Wednesday, December 5, Ald. John Arena (45th Ward) will be answering your questions live starting at 7 p.m. on cable channel 21 and online at http://www.cantv.org/live. Do you have a question for Ald. Arena? Leave a comment on this post or watch and call in live. Any questions are really appreciated! Learn more about CAN TV's Political Forum at http://www.cantv.org/politicalforum.htm.

  • I followed up with an email to Alderman Arena regarding my two unanswered question and he promptly replied to indicate that the blue recycling carts would be coming our way in 2013 and he is pushing for us to get our sooner rather than later. He also has an ordinance in the works to make Elston Ave. a no parking zone along the Marion's stretch and 20 feet beyond both driveways. He also indicated that another traffic congestion study will be done. This is all good news.

  • Federal mandates the local police municipality to govern airports which CPD covers. at O'Hare and Midway. So why are taxpayers on the hook for unarmed Aviation Police to qualify in police gun qualifications? It is an enormous waste of the taxpayers money and a waste of resources and time since they are not armed and will not be in the foreseeable future.

OB/GYN Recommendation

Ok ladies, who's got a good one? I use to see Dr. Ravella and she retired, then I saw Dr. Brennan and she left the Swedish Covenant practice. I'd prefer a female doctor who is the vicinity of Jefferson Park.

  • I agree with @Susan regarding Dr. Chams. She is located at the Clock Tower building across from Sauganash Village on Peterson. She really listens.

  • I agree with Jamie S. I've been going to Dr. Labarge for about 10 years and I wouldn't want to see anyone else. Her bed side manners are phenomenal. The new facility in Park Ridge on Northwest highway is beautiful. You won't go wrong with Dr. Labarge.
