Looking for Condo Associations that work with Wesley Realty

Our building is managed by Welsey Realty. One of their vendors, VanDerBosch recently recommended $6,000 worth of work on a catch basis that had been abandoned. Luckily, something felt fishy to me so I demanded a 2nd opinion from a plumber outside of Wesley's vendor list. The 2nd plumber determined the pipe wasn't in use and didn't need the work. In one of our board meetings, Nic our Wesley association management rep said that Wesley worked with VanderDerBosch to fix 6 - 7 catch basins a year. If you live in a gut rehab managed by Wesley and had your catch basin replaced, please make sure the line is in use or if not, you should go after Wesley and VanDerBosh for the cost paid!! Please also message me as I'm trying to find other condo owners who have had similar problems.

Hit & Run

I was involved in a hit and run at Racine/Cortland/Clybourn on Saturday night at 10:15pm. Two teenage girls in a grey/blue minivan (Chrysler, maybe?). They couldn't have been over 17 and were white, skinny, long brown/blonde hair. There must be damage to their front right bumper side of their vehicle - maybe red paint marks from my car.

If anyone has any information I would appreciate it!

  • Neighborly1~ Values community.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you can find them. I agree that talking to local businesses could help.

  • they might have been driving under the influence (under age) and didn't want to get caught. awful! glad you weren't hurt...right?

Loud neighbors issue

I live on the 3rd floor of condo in Lincoln park. The building next door has renters. Every Friday and Saturday, the 3rd floor renters have parties that start at 11:30p.m. They blast their music so loudly that I can feel the vibrations throughout my body. We cannot sit on our deck or sleep b/c the music is so loud. We call the police, along with other neighbors on the street. Even though the police come, they continue to do this every weekend. We and many neighbors are officially fed up. Does anyone know what else can be done? We don't know the name of the landlord since no units are for rent.

  • I believe multi unit buildings --rental and condo -- are required to have management info posted on the building. The other suggestions are solid but you could try reporting this to the city to see if you can get contact info for the building owner where your problem renters live. Back when I lived in a self-managed condo, we got cited for lack of contact info signage as part of a city inspection. I am sorry and feel your pain.

  • Thanks all! I am glad to know others have experienced this problem and feel confident after reading your comments and advice that I don't have to live like this and that they can get evicted.

Etno village grill

Does anyone know when Etno is going to re-open? I'm hungry. I haven't seen any progress in their renovations in a few months.

  • ehk

A few months ago there was a stop work order (huge sticker/poster) stuck to the side door (old coffee house front door). Something about work being done was not in original scope/permit. It was scraped off about a day later, but I haven't seen much progress!

Car break-ins

Last night our car got broken into for the 3rd time this month. Our next door neighbors car did as well. There have been break-ins regularly all over our community near Wrightwood and Southport for the last 6 weeks, but I'm sure its happening all over. Apparently these thieves have the technology (its definitely out there) that can bypass locked doors and alarms. Don't leave any valuables in your car, even if its locked.
The crime in this city is only getting worse, last week there was an armed burglary at our ice rink

  • Do any of you have cars that are opened using ur phone or other keyless tech? there is a car stealing tool that literally hacks ur car. All the thief does is walk by ur car with a hand held device that scans and opens ur car as if it was you doing it. No alarm will go off. I'm not sure how to stop or guard against this but now that you all know about it maybe it will help in some way. Sorry I couldn't help more.

  • Johnny Anastopoulos Johnny's Beef & Gyros Owner - LP Resident

Its horrible, My Car also got broken into last week. 5th time in 3 years. Every time in Lincoln Park. Luckily I learned my lesson from past experience, nothing was taken, because there is nothing inside my car. definitely remove all valuables. I have also caught some thieves breaking into someone else's car, I called the police. and by the time I circled back around the block, they fled. I hope I prevented them from breaking into more cars that night.

Sewer backup in basement - who can fix?

With Monday night's storm, we experienced sewer backup in our basement (West Lincoln Park), as did all five other townhouses in our complex. It's pretty bad and we've been trying to get someone to come tear out the carpet, sanitize, clean up, etc ASAP.

Service Master can't get to us til Sun. which seems too long for that to sit. I know there's a big wait because so many others are in the same situation, but any suggestions on others who can fix sooner maybe?

  • Wet Vac & Clorox for cleanup. See FEMA Publication 348 for prevention at http://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/3729 The best prevention system is a FEMA 348 "Overhead" system provided by Mannion Plumbing, 5419 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60651 (773) 626-6466. Mine has worked without exception for over 30 years.

  • Barbs hey you kids, get off my lawn!

What Ross said, in terms of cleanup. You can DIY, at least some of it, without much danger to yourself. Shop Vac to suck up the water, lot's of fans and dehumidifier or two to get things drying. The worst thing you can do is just let it sit all soggy. Yeah it's nice to hire someone, but a little personal elbow grease if you can manage it will go a long way.
