Does anyone know the reason for helicopters over Rogers Park (The Park) and southwest, maybe to Touhy and California (from my vantage point in the park), between 4 and 4:30 this afternoon.

Anyone got the scoop on the old Dominicks on Ridge? Looks like they're doing a bunch of work there and I heard it was gonna be a grocery called Cermak produce or something like that. Thanks.

Anyone know what caused the fire? I don't know where exactly it is but I smelled it from my house. Didn't wanna go investigate it.

Money talks. Just in case anyone thought the Mayor's selling out of Chicago residents to the big airlines (on all manner of issues, airplane noise being just one of them) had stalled with all his lip service about "looking into the issue," here comes the news that airplane execs -- most of whom don't live in the city (no surprise) -- have shelled out big cash to Emanuel's campaign chest. No strings attached, though (yeah, sure).

Chicago's most dangerous intersections for pedestrians--Touhy and McCormick is near the top!
In the suburbs, the most dangerous intersections were McCormick Boulevard and Touhy Avenue in Skokie; Cicero Avenue and Cermak Road in Cicero; and U.S. Route 12 and Cermak Road in Westchester.
Hello all. Hope to see you all if you can make it. Meeting is at Green Briar Park, 2650 W. Peterson. Have a good day. Thanks, Jeanne

Alderman O'Connor is hosting a meeting to discuss the details of the purposed Toyota dealership on the site of the former Z Frank Chevrolet.
The meeting takes place at 7:00 pm on Thursday 10/09 at Green Briar Park, 2650 W Peterson Ave.
If you live anywhere near this site, you should try to attend as no one really understands the impacts this business will have on our community.

I was unable to attend the community meeting this evening regarding the sale and potential redevelopment of the old Z Frank space at Western and Peterson. Was anyone there and have any information? Overall feel for how this will pan out?

I am running an Intergenerational Arts Program and I have room for a few more students interested in gaining service hours and experience by volunteering and doing photography, video, a journal article, and assisting with the older adult program. The program is 5 weeks long, on a weekend afternoon and one weekday afternoon / evening. Can anyone recommend the Community Service Director at a nearby high school ? Contact Sharon Hyson, Arts Educator and Art Therapist at email@example.com for further information.
Is it true that a mosque is proposed to take over the church on Thorndale and Campbell?
I heard something a few weeks ago but nothing since.

Anyone else curious as to why the news fails to show all the shootings in uptown and Rogers park? I see lots of coverage on the south side shootings.

I saw this on you tube while checking out some of the references made on other threads in Everyblock. I thought it was disturbing to say the least...

Does anyone know what is going on in the old North Ridge Ford dealership at 6500 N Western Ave? I drove by over the weekend and noticed a sign that said Cab Town. Do they sell cabs there? Just wondering.....

I live in a bungalow and want to use the upstairs for a bedroom. Without central air or a roof vent fan what is the best way to cool the upstairs? The windows are too small for anything but the smallest of ac units. I have not read anything that gives me confidence in the portable air conditioners. What works?
My Calendar app must be broken. It claims today is September 1, but my neighbor’s fireworks indicate it is July 4.

I just saw a guy putting an "under contract" sticker on the old Frank Z sign. I just wanted to know if anyone knew who was going to be moving into the space. I had heard that a grocery store and gym were interested, but those were just rumors. (However, I am keeping my finger's crossed for the grocery store!) Thanks for any insight!
Here's another way in which women's roles expanded during WWII: The National Women's Baseball League (1944-54) included the Thillens Checashers a fast-pitch team that played at Thillens Stadium, Devon and Kedzie. Documentary filmmaker Adam Chu will trace the league's West Ridge connection in his talk at Northtown Library, 6435 N. California Ave., this Tuesday August 26 at 6:30 pm. The league was a rival to the All-American Women's Baseball League (1943-54) which was the subject of the film "A League of Their Own." His talk is co-sponsored by the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society and the Northtown Library.

A woman in her 70s who lives in West Rogers Park was diagnosed with the city's first case of West Nile virus, officials said. Of the more than one hundred victims last year, around ten percent died. Technicians will be spraying Zenivex to poison the mosquitoes. You should stay indoors and close your windows while spraying is underway as an extra precaution, city officials said. Be careful because one bite can kill you. http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20140819/norwood-park/city-spray-far-northwest-side-for-mosquitoes-wednesday
