eta for edgewater/ uptown mariano's

does anyone have an eta on the edgewater/ uptown mariano's on sheridan and foster... i saw last week paint cans, and tarps over things as well as the signs for each asile gone but no actual work.. also there have been multiple electrician vans in the lot but i do not see any actual work going on... what is holding this up and when will this open finally

    ' Prices lower than W.F'
that's not true. Mariano's actually has higher prices than WF in certain departments, particularly the meat department certain items when comparing apples to apples. Also the WF house brand is cheaper when you're comparing then apples to apples products (the roundys house brand is typically lower quality so hard to compare apples to apples, even though it's often similarly priced for a product w/ crappier ingredients). Both being cheaper than Jewel though.

Fabric store

I used to go to Hancock Fabrics on Broadway but that's gone. Are there any other real fabric/sewing stores (not craft stores) close by - near Uptown, Edgewater, Andersonville, Lakeview, Rogers Park, etc.

The only other fabrics store I've seen and been to is Vogue (not sure of the name) near Maxwell flea market.

  • Caroline from Silvertown Silvertown Studio

One more suggestion, it looks like The Needle Shop moved to just across the street from Trader Joe's on Lincoln. They carry fabrics you won't find elsewhere in Chicago, have a love of sewing, and even teach classes. I haven't been to this location, but when it was in the Wicker Park area it was quite charming. http://www.theneedleshop.net/

  • Rainbow Fabrics is still on Roosevelt Road. In fact, he's got two storefronts now. They're a few doors apart, but he's still got his unique selection of fabrics at great prices.

Murals in LSD viaducts

I think Alderman Cappleman's plan to cover the rotten viaducts of Lawrence and Wilson with art is an awesome idea.
It is about time. A bargain and more bang for the buck.
Wish me luck, if my art gets chosen going to do my honest best, make it beautiful.
In a couple weeks or so will post up drawings and make public my own process, making art is ok...not like watching law or sausage making.

  • My favorite is the one on Brywn Mawr, however, I think the one in uptown though should reflect our neighborhood.

  • Littleton Artist/Uptown/Chicago

I talked to Tressa last night at the zoning meeting. She said they are open to small, medium, or large murals. The budget is about $15,000 per side. Depending on what it costs for the blasting and sealing beforehand not sure how much that leaves for the artist or group....

I talked to Tressa last night at the zoning meeting. She said they are open to small, medium, or large murals. The budget is about $15,000 per side. Depending on what it costs for the blasting and sealing beforehand not sure how much that leaves for the artist or group. Knowing what the union rates are I have to think not much.

It sounds like a lot of money but it isn't. In the 49th ward they spent almost $120,000 for 20 viaduct murals alone and 100% of it went to artist fees. Knowing what the union rates are I have to think not much. A couple friends of mine took advantage of that, the fees made it possible to commit fully their expertise, time and highest quality materials.

She did say materials would be donated but trained artists do not use donated materials from Sherwin-Williams.

The details are still sketchy and whether or not it works for me I fully support it. There are student groups and others who deserve the opportunity to engage in their community in this way.

I already have a mural under LSD I painted for material money next to the Peace Garden so it may be time to let others give it a go.

Permit Parking in Edgewater Beach

Are others in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood in favor of permit parking? As more businesses come into the area and summer nears, the parking just seems to keep getting worse. I would like to start a petition for permit parking but want to get feedback from others. Thanks!

  • WatchFUL40 Bowmanville neighbour

City stickers don't appear to be the issue here. Parking and parking rights. Permits would work. Permits/zones are established for a neighbourhood via certain regulations and criteria.

    https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/about/wards/30/news/requirements_forresidentialzoneparking.html

I think permit parking would solve some issues. However Chicago, in general, is severely congested. I'm always verbally advocating for parking structures for heavily populated areas, especially those with a lot of multi-unit apartment complexes.

    Good luck.

  • d3 NOH

'City stickers don't appear to be the issue here' it is one of the issues that contributes HEAVILY to the dysfunction of the permit zone process throughout this city. Please read above if you don't understand the connection.

Hey Jimmy Johns - - Can You Deliver This?

To the Jimmy Johns at 6153 N Broadway St:

Everybody loves a good sandwich, but...

You must be aware that traffic on north Broadway in front of your store can be very heavy, but especially at rush hours. Please have your delivery drivers stop parking their cars IN THE ROAD in front of your business. They are blocking the entire right lane at times and causing traffic conditions that are unsafe.

Without a doubt, parking for your drivers must be an issue, but this situation is a liability for an accident waiting to happen.

And yes, I would like fries with that!

Thanks.

  • The JJ drivers are only a small part of the problem. On nice days, the car wash to the south will have cars waiting in line on Broadway. I have seen as many as 10 cars stacked up on Broadway as I try to walk across the street at Hood. I have witnessed many near accidents as confused drivers that erronously were trapped try to exit the line.

  • Leelee Dog lady, cat lady, juicer extraordinaire

Maybe send a letter to them? If that is ignored maybe the alderman's office would be able to help you resolve this?
