Does anyone remember the bar on Damen called "Augenblick"?

If so, I am desperate to find the artist who created the poster for them. It would be a gift to my husband, as this was the location of our first date 18 years ago.

"Neighbor" in Distress

Guy rang our bell around 10 pm, introduced himself as our neighbor, and launched into a story, which boiled down to the fact that he couldn't get into his apartment on Oakley just north of Irving Park. Asked if there was a Home Depot nearby - then asked for a ride (didn't get one). Then asked for a ladder (didn't have one). Then asked if there were any police or firemen on the block (I told him there were, but...

Then asked if there were any police or firemen on the block (I told him there were, but didn't know their houses). Then, finally, asked for cab fare (also denied).

I guess there's a chance this guy was on the up-and-up and having a really bad night, but this rings all kinds of warning bells for me. Anyone else encounter him?

The woman who came to our door at 5am was clutching her chest saying she was having a heart attack .my kind husband wanted me to help her in to the living room .She asked to get her some brandy to help the pain . I called 911 and as soon as she saw the ambulance ,which came very quickly , she ran like a rabbit .

A couple years ago a man knocked on our door and spoke to my husband through our front door about how his car broke down, blah, blah, blah. It was 5am and let's just say my husband was not playing around with this guy. We called the police and they drove around the corner and broke through our neighbors front door, pulled out a .357 Magnum, shot a hole in the floor with the kids in the house on the floor while the mom gave them cash. Turns out they had been on a crime spree all night long--finally caught when they robbed someone's apartment and took an iPhone with the tracking app. The bottom line? We never answer our door or open our gate for anyone we don't know. You never know who is hiding a gun.
I have also been approached several times in the Target parking on Addison by folks looking for "prescription" money. It's all a scam.

Witnessed a fight in Welles Park

There was a fight at 10:30p.m. on Sunnyside and N. Lincoln part of Welles park. Kids were watching and looked like two father figures fighting. There was another sketchy guy involved and of course baggy clothes. Why I posted this is because I called 911 and was put on hold for 7 minutes while being transferred to police. It was a pretty brutal fight and kids were sounding upset. I yelled from across the park "I called the cops," and...

Be on the look out for suspicious activity like that if you live around there. I report everything I see and this was the longest period of time I waited for police to pick up or respond.
Outrageous.

I was walking my dog, so that's why I was over there at that time.

  • What does this lady hitter look like?

  • Maybe KB knows a little more. From what I saw he was a Latino man, 5'9-5'11, dark hair, needs a hair cut, not a skinny build age 30-35 Sorry it was dark and most of the fighting happened under trees and the shade didn't help at night.

Flat Tires Bell/Addison

Heads Up: woke up to two flat tires on the passenger side. As I was walking down the block I spotted another car with the same problem. Unlikely that it's a coincidence.

  • I think this is some sick trick from tire companies. I went to a local car repair place so I could have my first oil-check up, and they asked me if I wanted tires. I said no. They gave me a dirty look, and as I walked away they went...

I think this is some sick trick from tire companies. I went to a local car repair place so I could have my first oil-check up, and they asked me if I wanted tires. I said no. They gave me a dirty look, and as I walked away they went into another room. I was worried about this, next week, tires slashed. Coincidence? I think not. I also think they don't need patrols. I don't want to see my favorite neighborhood turn into a cop hangout where EVERYONE is watched, i mean, don't you hate it when someone is watching over your shoulder when reading a book, or when someone won't stop asking questions when you're trying to watch a movie? I think this won't happen again, these punks wouldn't hit the same place twice. Although it does tick me off that my tires were slashed. Oh well.

  • I believe that this attack was not a conspiracy because there where also tags that said DW everywhere and eagles #2 I'm not sure what this means but it doesn't make any sense maybe everyone was angry with there neighbor or there is a slashing tire group that doesn't like tires for some reason

Tagging in North Center

Last night our garage, along with several others in the alley of the 3600 block between Campbell and Artesian were tagged.

Photo is attached.

This area is a popular hangout for High School kids on Friday / Saturday nights when there are games at the Lane Tech Stadium.

  • Jim K. 3 boys, lots of noise

Nan, it is a multi-building factory that went vacant over the summer. Begyle microbrewery is holding down the south end of the chain of buildings well, but empty from there up to Warner. Signage is up for leasing, hopefully some tenants in there soon.

Two kid booster seats in good condition

Free for the taking. Would prefer these go to a needy family (not a reseller) - though I cannot control that I understand. If you have anyone that may need booster seats, I would love to donate them.

  • Ravenswood Community Child Care Center has a program for teen parents where they provide childcare for parents who are completing their education. Amundsen High School has a staff member who provides support to teen parents at that school. Might be worth contacting both places to see about need.

Martial arts/Self defense

Hi,
Does anyone have any good, affordable recommendations for a place in the area to take martial art or self defense classes? Thank you!!

  • Mike Eugenio Tandang Garimot Martial Arts & Wellness

Hi, i am in Lakeview area and I teach Filipino (but bot limited to it) martial arts at Tandang Garimot. We have different price packages based on how often you can train. Check us out.

  • VPGirl Logan Square

Second on Thousand Waves...they have both types of classes there, and they incorporate self-defense strategies/techniques into their regular karate classes. They are currently running a special for new members. They have classes for all age groups and do community outreach as well. Full Disclosure: I train there and have done so for years. http://thousandwaves.org/

  • St Benedict Elementary School reviewed by a parent

We love St. Ben's and our children have experienced preschool through middle school there. The administration is very open to parent concerns and easy to approach. The middle school experience is great and really prepares them for the high school years. The kids shift classes in middle school just like high school, and because there is a high school they gave the opportunities to take higher level science and math programs. The new Agora program is fantastic for adding a love of learning for the kids. The teachers generally seem to care about the kids, and I've never heard of any complaints of favoritism, like another reviewer complained about. Overall the kids are engaged and challenged.

loud banging, thrashing, booming

Hi. I live in a coach house behind Addison, between Hamilton and Hoyne. Every night, there are extremely loud noises at any and all hours of the night. They are absolutely not animals. Once in a while, there is a boom that shakes the foundation of the house. After wearing ear plugs with my head next to a large floor fan on high, I was still woken up by tremors.

The neighbors all claim that they don't hear anything, but I don't see how that is a real possibility. One night, after the earth shook me awake, I walked outside at like 4am and started thrashing on the garage next to our house... loudly. I literally took the side of my fist and started pounding this old loose garage with bursts for about a minute. This was a warm night with people s windows open. Nobody stirred. I walked around afterwards for about another min. Nothing. Another night at like 3-4am, I walked out into the basement of the two flat we're attached to with tenants inside, slammed the door behind me, started rummaging through our storage, walked back outside, slamming the door behind me and slammed the fence under their bedroom windows repeatedly. I talked to them the next day and they said they heard nothing.

Now, I am not a light sleeper. I used to live above a bus stop on Ashland and Irving park. I slept like a baby over there. Either this neighborhood has gone rogue or the house is having night terrors.

I've been sleeping at a friends house recently so my blood pressure doesn't start boiling.

This is ruining my life. The police aren't going to do anything (talked to them already). Cameras are too expensive. I have a strong feeling it will be a complete waste of money.

My fiancé can confirm the noises.

  • Sunflower6876 Loving life in Lincoln Square!

I know there was a house that was demoed on Leavitt between Grace & Irving Park. I don't think this happened in the middle of the night, and is a bit too far from you. Maybe try exorcism?

  • Hmmm, I commented on your post when you lived on Grace/Bell. Same issues. Weird. Are cameras installed yet?

Good Spot to Buy Furniture?

I just moved to the neighborhood and was wondering if you knew a good spot to buy furniture in Chicago at a reasonable price?

I'm mainly looking for living room furniture (couch, table, TV stand, etc.).

  • Susan S. resident

Don't forget craigslist.org and ebay classifieds.

  • Marco from Tropoje Two-flat owner

My initial thoughts were of Roy's, but only if you intend to keep it for a while. It's not cheap cheap, but affordable and of really great quality. IKEA is my go to store for cheap, decent furniture that I don't mind leaving behind if I have to move.

Ravenswood Metra Bike Parking

I am moving to the neighborhood in a few months and plan to try the Ravenswood Metra as my way of getting to the Loop every day for work. Can anyone give me a sense of bike parking availability for the morning commute? Have been issues with bike theft at the stop? Thanks

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

I guess I don't understand Divvy. For this to be practical, there would need to be a Divvy station every couple of blocks

  • Tina K 10 years in Lincoln Square

The closest divvy station was sometimes full in the morning and close to empty in the evening, so I'd allow extra time in case you need to use a divvy station that was further away.

Truck Break-In on 4300 Block of Campbell

Hey neighbors, I heard two loud thumps and then a car alarm go off at midnight last night. I looked out the window and saw that a truck parked on Campbell between Montrose and Pensacola was broken into. The alarm went off for several minutes. I did not see the perpetrators, but I do know it took place at midnight. This morning I saw that the passenger window was smashed. This is the first break-in that i have noticed since moving to the neighborhood this summer.

Lost Quadcopter

I lost a RC quadcopter(helicopter) at Horner Park. I fear it may have gone in the river, but if anyone that walks, jogs, works, or is by that area and sees an aprox 1'x1' RC quadcopter with orange and green propellers please contact me. Will pay a reward if returned. Or call 847-370-1684

  • Dustin, so glad that we were able to get your quadcopter back to you! It looks like a lot of work went into it. Love to see you fly it sometime.

  • Dustin Dalziel lost quadcopter

Thank you again so much. Yes the time spent on it made it so much more valuable to me. I would love to show you and your family how it flies, maybe we can meet at Horner Park this coming weekend? FYI, what you found is called the "Warpquad" if you were so inclined to watch a YouTube video of someone flying one.
