Veterinarian in Logan Square

Hi neighbors! Looking for some local recommendations for a vet who could see my pup. Would anyone be able to offer any recommendations based on personal experience? Looking for an office with evening/weekend hours!

Thanks!

  • I just wanted to comment on Logan Square Animals hospital. My crazy dogs were rough housing and the little ones eye popped right out! I rushed her over and they were great. They were professional and caring. We discussed several options before surgery. They took great care of her and have been in the area for several years. Though the office looks old, it was clean.

Why not tax evenly upper and rich and poor as a percentage of income ! Let everyone share in the crisis !!! That goes to Joe and Scot r o .
Rahm has a plan let the poor fix the crisis ! No everyone must pay !!!!!!!!!

I agree we need to hear more about their financial plans.

It is clear though what "MAYOR 1%" represents and values as is evident in the Depaul Basketball Arena Deal

    AND

that he disregards the vast majority of the people in Chicago that are affected by his cuts and closings as is evident when he scrapped the traditional round of public hearings held throughout the neighborhoods during the 2012 budget process.

This afternoon I was approached by two men in their late 20s that seemed a bit sketchy in a black dodge minivan that said they wanted to fix a dent that was in my car. I was in my car and they were in theirs. I said no thank you and they persisted to hound me saying they would and could do it right now, on the spot if I just gave them 20 dollars. At this point they were harassing me and seemed mad that I wouldnt pay 20$ to have a dent fixed. They were both very persistent and aggressive in nature. I decided to take a photo of them after they pulled away to give details on the plate to 311. At this point they reversed and rammed their car into mine hard and got out of their car. I honked and made a scene and they got back into the car and drove off. I feel like they were probably trying to rob me or steal my car. I went to the police station and they couldn't do anything since there was minimal damage to my car and I wasn't hurt, physically. The license plate was an expired temporary plate registered to a woman from the suburbs. I just want people to be aware of these guys. They seemed hard up,irrational and violent. It seemed like they had this scam down and it wasn't their first attempt. I'm glad people were around and it didn't escalate into anything worse. It was definitely a scary situation.

  • I understand not chasing the thief but the security guard could have at least assisted the lady -- see if she was hurt, take her inside, help her call the real police -- they should be trained to not just stand there and look puzzled.

Dog Sitter Needed

Hello Neighbors. I live at Spaulding and Cortland. I have two male Chihuahuas and I am in desperate need of a sitter for March 16-20. My regular sitter, who is fantastic, and has sat my dogs for over 6 years, is unable to do so. Does anyone know of a responsible person whom can walk my dogs 3 times a day and feed them? The individual can stay in my apartment if need be.

Please call my cell phone: 312-852-8669
or email me: cztony@aol.com

I appreciate your neighborly help,

Hey! Just moved. Nice to be here.

Just moved out from northern California. Never used this site before but figured I'd say hello.

  • First of all, Welcome! Second, I'm not going to ask your address on here, but there are several neighborhood associations that are productive, and where you live would tell you which one to contact. Also, the CAPS meeting (community assisted policing strategy) is a good place to meet neighbors, and again that would be determined by your address.

The Humboldt Park Advisory Council (HPAC) meets tonite at 6:30pm at the park fieldhouse Anyone can attend, can become a member, and it is free.

Election

What does it say about a mayor who spends millions against a field of candidates who have never run for Mayor and he gets 1000 less votes than his 1st election and almost set a record for lowest turnout ever. Maybe if there was a candidate named Apathetic he/she would have won.

Structural analysis of our home

Any ideas for someone to come analyze the structure of our home? Recently we have a few cracks along some kitchen wall seems and a few hardwood floor slats that seem to be slightly separating.

  • Like others have said, if cracks are in a new-ish house (10 years or less), it could be settling, and is expected. If in an old house, you may want a structural engineer.
I had similar concerns when buying a 100-yr old house last year, and hired Clark Baurer from mkbdesign.net to do a residential structural inspection ($350) and report ($500). I was very pleased with it, but i would only recommend if you are very worried.

  • Thank you everone. This is super helpful.

1411/1412 Beat Meeting on Feb. 26

The beat meeting for 1411/1412, which had been postponed due to snow, has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7pm. Beat meetings are held at St. Nicolai Church, 3000 N. Kedzie Ave.

In addition to the usual information about crime statistics, police alerts, significant arrests and neighborhood occurrences, this meeting will also feature a information on bicycle theft prevention.
With Spring approaching (allegedly), people will be using their bikes more often. With more bikes out, the number of bicycle thefts increases in spring/summer. Get some tips from CPD members who are also cyclists on protecting your bike from theft.

  • C. M. D. Avondale Triangle resident

Due to time constraints, the bike theft tips will be at April's meeting. Still worth attending!

  • Just heard on the radio that there's only a 28 vote difference between runoff and re-election in the 33rd ward race, so they have to wait a week for the absentee ballots to be counted.

After reading a previous post that she lives in the 1st ward AND worked for that Alderman recently- I finally determined that she screwed up her paperwork and meant to file to run in the 1st ward !

As everyone knows- vital services & representation are sorely lacking in the 1st ward.
I welcome her efforts to replace Joe Moreno and finally clean up the garbage and filth around her community.

Looking for ESL Teachers!

The Urban Vineyard ESL program is looking for some volunteer teachers! Do you have experience teaching English as a Second Language--or would you like some? We offer a free ESL program and our intention is to not only provide a knowledge of English, but to increase the competence, confidence and capabilities of our students through community and care.

Classes are Tuesdays 6-8pm and Saturdays 10am-noon.

If you or anyone you know would like to help, contact esluv@urbanvineyard.org.

And if you know of anyone who would like to learn, or increase their knowledge of English as a second language, let them know!

It's a great program everyone. I volunteer in the conversation group on Thursday nights, where our students are able to practice and talk to one another in a casual environment. If you have the time to give, please consider it!

What is it about the intersection of Kimball and Barry

that makes people think that traffic laws, common sense, and human decency no longer apply?

For the third time this winter a driver almost ran me over while I was crossing in the crosswalk. I don't care if there is snow on the ground and you're driving 5 MPH, I don't care if it's saturday night and you're drunk, if a pedestrian is IN the crosswalk already, you better stop at the stop sign, and stay stopped, until that pedestrian is into the other half of the crosswalk.

Sorry if anyone heard me yelling at the driver tonight and was disturbed. Next time I'm going to use my keys to scratch the hood.

  • A sure fire way to get people to slow down is to strip out a couple of inches of asphalt like they do for resurfacing. Or maybe some well placed potholes. People always slow down for those.

  • I was at Central at the red lite crossing over Milwaukee and a Police car going in the opposite direction stopped his car and told the car in front to move back over the crosswalk for the pedestrians to cross safely. Soo dangerous there where most car drivers always stop over the crosswalk. When I would live there for many years, I would always yell at them. What good was that. Chicago is like Miami and other cities. Rules of the Road, WHAT IS THAT? Welcome to Chicago.

Given what I know of the candidates, I would expect a close race, but Ward 35 is not on any "races to watch" stories in the news, so maybe it's not as close as I would think. I'll be the first to admit I haven't researched or prepared for this election as well as I should and normally do. I know that's not very civic-minded, but it is what it is. Development around Kedzie/Armitage?

Does anyone know what's happening in the building across from Scofflaw (MuveMusic building) on the NW corner of Kedzie and Armitage? My boyfriend received a hint from someone at Scofflaw that "something good" was coming, but no more details were offered. I also wondered if anyone had heard any plans about anything coming into the other vacant buildings on the north side of Armitage in that general area (for example, there are a few vacant storefronts between the cleaners and Walgreens, east of Kedzie)?

  • thanks gayle and michael for the links...which i used to see that there were permit denials in jan and feb for the old ronny's site...so frustrating.

What do YOU pay for Comcast???

I've had it with Comcast, just like so many others... In less than a year, my internet fee went from $77 (which I thought was absurdly high!), to $83, to $95 this month!!! My co-worker told me yesterday she pays $30, and every time that "promotional" rate expires, she complains and they give it back to her... So, I'm thinking that's some pretty significant range! So, what do YOU pay??? I'm wonder just how wide this range is...

32 Ward - Thanks

Our recycling hadn't been picked-up in over three weeks. I sent an email to the alderman's ward info address in the evening, and the city sanitation department called me at 8 AM on the dot the next morning. Services are outsourced to Waste Management, but everything was picked-up by that afternoon.

Thanks to Waguespack's staff and the sanitation department for moving so quickly!

Anyone catch the 1st Ward Debate last week?

I'm new to the First Ward...and found out about the debate too late...checking the candidates' web pages, i don't feel like I know much about who they are and why they are running.... (Moreno, the incumbent who has had a couple people knock on my door; Rhonda Locke, who once worked for Moreno now running against him; Anne Shaw, who has a couple police endorsements; and Andrew Hamilton, a red-headed lawyer with a facebook page.) Did anyone attend/watch the debate? Or have an opinion as to which is the best candidate (or if any have a chance against an incumbent?)

  • I find it all very entertaining...the dirt popping up on all sides. The countdown is on! Hope we're all able to live happily with whoever we end up with in charge.

  • Preston Zane cryptic missives

Barbs, many of the allegations you see on that site were brought up against Anne when she first took on Moreno for ward committeeman. So the content is not new, but the site obviously is. If someone on here is an aspiring investigative journalist, they could easily call the woman in the YouTube video and ask her who put her up to this. Dig people. The truth is out there.

Carpenter/Glass Maker for Custom Cabinet Job

Does anyone know of a crafty and reliable carpenter or glassmaker that could take an existing kitchen cabinet door, pop the wood panel out, and replace with glass? We've been looking high and low for someone, to no avail. Any pointers are appreciated.
