What do residents of the 11th District think?

Commander Glen Evans was charged with serious misconduct. Did he do a good job in the ward?

Somehow I'm incline to believe that someone within the department wanted him gone. Why would something that happen a year ago surface now and DNA found on the gun? Protocol is you must clean your gun regularly.
To me it sounds like the Commander was about to clean house and they knew it!
Which meant a lot of crooket police officers as well drug dealers were about to be locked up.

The neighborhood is significantly quieter since this commander took over. Ike Sims housing project behind us is quieter than any of athe last 17 years. It is quite a change for residents to turn in information and get service. It has not been like here in the previous 16 plus years under other commanders. One wonders..with the violence being so high...what the real motives are.

If anyone is prive to that info please let us know so we can understand better.

Who would like to see Inspiration Kitchens on Lake have internet/wifi?

There was discussion earlier in the summer about having an internet cafe in EGP. I see that there are grants for internet. It appears that Garfield Park and some NFPs are the only ones that have this. Perhaps someone could see if Inspiration Kitchens could also get this free internet/wifi. They are a NFP also.

Anybody got anything to say on this topic? THANKS.

In East side and North side neighborhoods kids are safe enough that they can walk to/from school safely. It is only in neighborhoods where policing is poor that parent's have to walk their kids to school because of the crime/gang/drug problems.

This is a policing issue not a good parenting issue. Why should parents in our neighborhood have to walk the kids when parents in other neighborhoods don't even have to worry that something might happen to their kids.

I am not going to let my neighbors take the brunt of blame for bad things happening here. There is plenty to go around for everyone. If everyone just did a little more to care and learn the right moves...we could have better progress.

Currently there are very few that go to the records, look, study, make a plan...and get positive things to happen.

So who is the problem? The liquor seller or the liquor user? The drug seller or the drug user? Racism is a bad thing all the way around.

There would be NO STORES at all here if some one didn't come and open a business. Blacks don't open business, whites don't open business...who is left? Some immigrant that had a harder time in the country they left that we bombed...than they have dealing with gang/drug people in our neighborhood.

Remember...the cost of government spending by city hall is in the billions...maybe 6 billion. Where is our fair share? Where are the jobs? Where is the Safety? Where is the GOOD education for our kids...Where is the economic development?

We didn't get our share. Who didn't give it to us...what color were they? What color were the politicians?

A small nobody store owner in our neighborhood didn't deprive us of anything. It was our government that failed us; that is who to blame.

Crime in East Garfield Park

Anyone have anything to say?

  • Marcus de la fleur Proud Lawndale resident

I heard a really interesting interview on the radio with historian Peniel Joseph talking about the civil rights movement then and now, all in the context of the Ferguson events. Here is a link. It is worth-it-while to listen to the interview:

Crowd sourcing can probably do a better job than most leadership can provide in the worst of Chicago neighborhoods. Failures in leadership has been a critical component of Chicagos' past 50 years. One party rule has failed to uplift those in poverty out of poverty. Leadership has only fostered and institutionalized ghettos on the south and west sides of Chicago while developing opulence for tourists who don't live here.

OMG take a walk on MIchigan Ave...hear the foreign voices as they shop till they drop. Personally I love cosmopolitan and international. What I don't love is that access to simple things in life..safety, jobs, decent housing...does not exist in the majority of the Chicago map for residents who live here and suffer from the grinding poverty.

Insiders have failed to address our serious issues for 5 decades. Outsiders will probably do a better job because they have fresh eyes and are not biased and prejudiced as Chicagoans are.

Again, this is not to denegrate politicians who have done a great job to service their constituents. Drive their wards and you can see the fruits of their efforts. Drive the wards of the vast ghetto wastelands and judge the politicans in those districts on the merit of their work. It is an easy test, yet many wards still maintain their blight despite union labor being paid to do this poor job.

East Garfield Park?

Looking to maybe move to East Garfield park. Anybody know that neighborhood?

  • Hello can you all tell me anything about Gladys and independence

  • MCBratcher Resident

The intersection of Gladys and Independence is right across from the park and just off the interstate. One good thing would be how quick you could get on/off the highway. One bad thing would be that you would get a lot of traffic right there.
