Court ruling revives plans for Lincolnwood gun range

In 1989, the village denied a request to open a shooting range at the store site at 3318 W. Devon Ave. In 1993, shop owners applied for a similar permit but withdrew it before a decision was made. Four years later, the owners sought to move down the street but were denied.

The owner of gun shop Shore Galleries has proposed relocating to 6950 Central Park Ave., shown, and adding a shooting range.

Noted Police Presence Around Rogers Park and School

I have noticed an increased amount of police patrolling around the school/park. My daughter keeps different hours than I do and said the same thing. I have noticed an increased amount of police patrolling around the school/park. My daughter keeps different hours than I do and said the same thing. My husband was pulled over yesterday for failure to use a turn signal, rolling through a stop sign, and a cracked windshield. The officer was very pleasant and quick. He let him continue on without any tickets. My husband drives a large, white, work van so the officer may have wanted to check it out and definitely had probable cause to pull him over. My feeling is that they are looking for something bigger. I'm just not sure what it is. I have seen a lot of youngsters in packs on bikes riding around the park too. Does anybody know if something has happened? Also, make a full stop at the signs or you'll be pulled over.

  • Oh, okay! Your post seemed like there was some hidden reason for the increase in patrol.

This morning at 6:20 vans arrived at the Republic Bank parking lot and began banging together tents and a stage and setting up chairs for a day-long party celebrating Indian Independence Day. The event will include live entertainment and, of course, loudspeakers. The party will begin around 11 and is expected to last until at least 7 pm.The man in charge told me that the alderman had signed off on it and if I had any complaints I could take them up with her. When I told him that this is a residential area, he replied "So what?." This is absolutely the last straw for me. Neither the alderman nor the event's organizers had the courtesy to advise the neighbors in advance about this event, which belongs in the park, not in a residential area. Complaints about noisy events in the parking lot are met with indifference by the alderman and the bank. All anybody cares about is money. I think she forgets that commercial and political interests have to be balanced with quality-of-life issues for residents. I am tired of the high-handedness, of the lack of communication, of being expected to accept whatever she and powerful commercial interests decide to do. She was elected alderman, not queen. I think this is what you get when all the political power in the ward is in one family. I've been ambivalent about the alderman for a long time but this is the last straw. My home will be under siege all day. I want a new alderman. I've just learned that there is a credible potential candidate and am trying to meet with this person in the next few days. We need change in this ward. We replaced the alderman last time, but we didn't change the system. If the ward is going to work for everybody, the system has to change, too.

After reviewing the street sweeping schedule, I noticed that the areas around Devon get fewer sweeps then the areas north of Pratt which are primarily residential. Considering the shear # of events and people in the Devon shopping strip one would think it would be the other way around.
I realize that Devon is swept daily, but there are no extra services for the residents living on the streets that border this very busy shopping district. All the streetscapes in the world cannot hide the fact that the area is filthy and needs a better sanitation system than what is in place today.

This morning around 8:30 music began blasting into my home from the street. Thinking it was yet rude car parker, I waited a few minutes but the music continued. I took the dogs for their walk and found the music was blasting from a truck parked mid-way up the block about to begin work for the gas company. I asked the driver to turn the music down, and he responded with an angry "I'm working here, I have a right to play music. What's the matter, you got something against Hispanic people or Hispanic music?" I told him that his behavior was rude and he couldn't cover it by accusing me of racism (I am white). Later I spoke to a man who appeared to be a supervisor (after the music was turned off) about the incident. The driver got out of his truck and said I was making too much of it. I wonder if he'd feel the same if the situation were reversed and the racism came from me and not him. It seems to me that some people will never get past playing the race card to cover bad behavior. I'll be complaining to the gas co about this guy.

Loud music is loud music, whether it’s Latino. hip-hop. metal or the 1812 Overture. Noise is a form of pollution, and exposure to it can physically damage your hearing. You were well within your rights.

  • Is anybody surprised that it was People's Gas? They do whatever they want to do. This includes using my hose and tearing up my (and all of my neighbors) patios. Now they're gone and we have the mess and thousands of dollars worth of repairs. Who will file the 1st class action lawsuit?

Thanks much to Mary Arents for all her hard work organizing and managing this year's markets, and to the volunteers who've helped her. I've been extremely critical of last year's events so I'm really pleased to support this much-improved market. I hope we can all show our support for the remainder of this year by attending, and then help Mary put an even better market together for 2015.

If you notice, they have camouflage uniforms and helmets, flak jackets, sniper rifles, assault weapons, and I think I spotted a sort of armored personnel carrier."

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and since starting to read everyblock in September - I feel that the people who participate really care about this community and eachother in it as a whole.
Indian Boundary Park is an amazing sanctuary in the city and i feel lucky to live close and be able to take my dogs for walks in the park several times a day (and always clean up afterwards).
Which brings me to this question:
What do you do about the people who dont leash their dogs (and there are plenty in the am)? My dogs are well trained but we do NOT let them off leash ever because of the great variables that can happen. However - other dog owners do not follow the same decorum.
We have called the police (who show up - but typically after they have time to leash up), we have asked (typically with a response of "find a different part of the park" or we just get ingnored or a snide comment.
So I ask all of you -- What would you do?
How would you handle this?
Is there anything more I can do? (and no - i wont try to find a different park)
Thank you for you replies and help!

Jim

The problem is people who don't obey the leash laws, especially those who insist their dogs are "trained." The truth is that none of us knows how other people--let alone other dogs--will react to our unleashed pets. People AND dogs who have been bitten or attacked in the past, for example, or people who are uneasy around animals for whatever reason, can be expected to become anxious--even panicky--in the presence of unleashed dogs. No one should be subjected to fear or panic attacks because a pet owner decides that his/her dog is "trained" and the fears of another person or dog are irrelevant.

  • I really wish Indian Boundry Park will make it where dogs aren't allowed at the park. I've seen people allowing their dogs-pit bulls walk unleashed where the children are playing and thanks nothing is wrong. That's why I stay carrying a weapon

Graffiti in the 6300 block of N Talman

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone else in the Rosemont, Talman, Rockwell area saw the very large graffiti in the 6300 block of N Talman? (2) Apartment buildings, 1 house, the building in the alley and 1 car. All with crowns, Latin King, F*** U messages and smiley faces. I reported to graffiti blasters and to our alderman. Any suggestions on how to get it removed a little quicker? My concern is the longer it stays, the more individuals will think the community does not care and it may happen more frequently. Hopefully it was an isolated incident. Either way it isn't something that is positive for the community.

  • CarrieW Wife, Mom, Dog Mom

Thank you everyone, I did e-mail the pictures to CAPS as well.

  • You can also post a photo on SeeClickFix. The City responds really quickly, in my experience. We had something similar last year, done overnight across the street from a police cam. The City was out within a couple days and it was gone.

Reporting a Business for labor violations

What is the best way to report a business for Hiring of illegal immigrants and even legal immigrants, but paying them $4 per hour cash and subsequently not paying any pay-roll tax? This isn't a pro or anti immigration reform post, rather it's to stop these business owners from modern day slavery. They immigrate people from over-seas and hold on to their passports or threaten them with harm while forcing them to work 16 hour shifts , no breaks, no OT, and on rates well below minimum wage while they fork all the profits.

Might be ok for some, but I can't stand this. Anyone know where to turn? Please don't say tell the alderman, that doesn't get me anywhere.

Essam, if the proper authorities won't respond, take it to the press. Any of our local TV stations would welcome this information. It sounds as if the workers are illegal immigrants afraid to act on their own behalf, and one of the problems with illegal immigration is that workers are trapped in situations like this by employers who knowingly violate both the law and standards of decency. It's never a good idea to let things like this slide. Your strike me as a man acting from a solid moral center, not a person acting out of malice. We should be far more concerned with protecting workers from exploitation than with allowing such exploitation on the grounds that the workers need to eat. If they're not being paid, they're not eating or supporting their families. Please call the press. Employers like this do not deserve to be shielded from prosecution. Their employees do need to be paid for the work they do, as required by law..

  • Essam, please let us know what you do and how it turns out. Thanks.
