5 story 'Micro' apartment building approved for 2328 N. Milwaukee Ave

According to dnainfo:

"The Transit-Oriented Development would house 52 units ranging from an average size of 439-square-foot studios, 1,537-square-foot one-bedroom units and roughly 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom units
Cost for each unit will range from $1,200 for studio apartments, $1,400 for one-bedroom units and roughly $2,100 for two-bedroom units.

The plan for the Logan Square development will feature 18 parking spaces, two Zipcars and five affordable housing units — 10 percent of the total units"

So this won't be have 'SRO' /single room occupancy zoning. And to me the units are not very MICRO...or cheep. (I think the article might be mixing up the 1000sqft 2 bedroom with the 1500sqft 1 bedroom).

To me this seems like a good fit for a busy corner right by the El. This should help spread the revitalization of Milwaukee Ave further northwest.

  • Yeah there is a huge difference between having the cash and actually affording those apartments. I LOL'd at the part in the article where they suggested these were for the younger millennials... Was I the only one who didn't graduate college debt free with a $60k a year job right off the bat? I'm over 30 and couldn't afford one of these studios. Good grief. I guess I'll show myself out, Logan.

  • Alan.. You're probably wrong.

Jerry, just because you didn't make that much doesn't mean there isn't a market for it. I can think of two guys off the top of my head that were making that much as union guys while I was still in college. They went in straight from HS so no...

Personally, I would NEVER pay anything close to that. I mean, my condo is half that and 1.5x the size (lol it's small) of that. But hey, it's not for everyone. Would you rather have this person rent one of these new ones and spend there cash here or take up some of the rental stock that's already dwindling as that's their only option in the area and force someone out of a cheaper apt?

If you don't pick up that poop you might get flagged!

This topic has been addressed here ad nauseam, I don't think the offenders are reading Every Block- you know, pick up your dog poop! This afternoon, someone actually flagged a dog poop. I am not sure what to make of it- If you want to see this- take a look, I took a picture. (for some unknown reason, Everyblock pics are not going through)

If one person doesn't clean up after his or her dog and the dog goes out twice a day (minimum), that's 14 piles per week or 56 piles per month. Most likely the offender(s) is/are one or two people in the immediate vicinity. The signs are a great idea. I am going to make some of my own!

  • Max - these misfits don't understand their dogs are walking through this disgusting fecal matter and bringing it back into their own home, couch, bed, etc. Not to mention picking up and/or spreading parasites. I ♡♡♡"public flagging/flogging for all!"

The reason why I need to find her a new forever home is that she **can not be around kids, especially crazy toddlers. When around little kids she gets scared which leads her to become aggressive towards them. But with that said... she is AMAZING with adults. She is a little timid and needs a time to get to know you.

I want to thank you for your support in the municipal elections in February as I was able to work with you to gain 79% of the vote in the 32nd Ward vote. The elected school board issue also tallied about 83% of the vote.

Another big date in Chicago's political history was made when the first ever mayoral runoff was set for April 7th. I am urging you to get out and vote early or on April 7th. I am supporting Chuy Garcia for Mayor but whoever you vote for, exercise your right to vote.

This is the first time Chicago has had a Mayoral runoff election since the runoff system was put into place. The Board of Elections ballots will list the two candidates for the office of Mayor: Mayor Emanuel and Chuy Garcia . In the 32nd Ward there will be one ballot cast for the mayoral race and no other questions will be on the ballot.

For questions about registration, absentee ballots, or any other election related issues visit the Q&A page at the Board of Elections for answers. To look up your polling place, check your voter information on the Chicago Board of Elections.

Mulch by the truck load

Are there any places nearby that sell mulch by the truck load? Or is there a way to rent a truck (Home Depot) and go get a truckload of mulch? Our building has a mulch bed that runs the entire parkway of a half block. We've had the outfit that mows our tiny yards install and refill it in the past, but wouldn't mind doing it myself if the economics are right. And I've looked into going to Home Depot, or something similar, and buying by the bag and that did not seem like a reasonable option.

Scoby inquiry

I've recently attended a kombucha brewing class, and I'm interested in starting home brewing. However, I'm in need of the scoby. Dill is currently not selling them and had no suggestions as to where I could find one. Any ideas? Or does anyone have a baby they would share with me? Thank you!

  • I've got some! Happy to share. Email me, elsbeth cool at gmail dot com.

  • If you still need one, I can split mine too. The first time I started brewing I used one of the kits from Dill Pickle with very poor results. It's much better to start with a gifted SCOBY from an established brew. Let me know if you're interested.

According to police, the suspect is between 18 and 30 years old, stands around 5-foot-11 and weighs about 165 pounds.

My hubby and I were married at Promontory Point, which is a Chicago Park District building right along Lake Michigan. Cheap rental, and we brought in our own booze and catering and music. Beautiful place. Indoor seating with huge wall of glass doors that open facing the Lake and a nice stone patio outdoors. One thing though: Because it's a park building, random people can come through to use the bathrooms, so you need to keep that in mind :) It's been awhile, so just check out current rules/regs on the Chicago Park District Website. http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/Burnham-Park/

Two Towers/Max Gerber Development 2nd Community Meeting

The 2nd Community Meeting for the old Max Gerber Project (The Two Towers), at 2293 N. Milwaukee Ave, will be Monday, March 30th, at the Haas Park Fieldhouse at 6:30 p.m .

The last meeting was packed and was originally proposed to add 253 rental units in the area near the California L station - that's on top of 52 now permitted at 2340 N. California and 120 planned to open in Spring 2016 at 2211 N. Milwaukee.

  • Susan S. resident

Unless he's drastically changed his plan, this developer is asking for an upzone, which is not the same thing as TOD. He's also asking for even less parking than the TOD law provides.

  • LSNA is spreading the word: http://www.lsna.net/calendar/5011

"In addition to concerns about density and precedent, LSNA leaders noted that the "affordable units" in the October plan were not actually affordable...and the units were not large enough for families."

"The plan put also private green space, behind an ivy-covered fence...."
