Three Loud Teens

Last night/this morning 12/19 there were three teens that were causing a good amount of noise around 2 am. They flipped a dumpster in the alley between Grace and Warrick just East of Kilpatrick. Only providing this information in case others had a similar incident. There were two males and one female, all Caucasian, who looked like teenagers of high school age. One of the males was carrying a full sized dark colored flag with a 6ft or so flag pole. It was wrapped around the pole at the time so I didn't notice any distinguishing marks.

  • SpamAlert Hates being spammed

With that detailed description of the perps, I would hope you would have gotten a photo of them. Not just of the flipped dumpster.

  • Kathleen Boyle Your dog's best friend! (Taking real estate break)

Thank you for sharing this info. Sounds like quality parenting has produced the next generation of fine, productive citizens. I'll keep a look out, my camera ready, and 9-1-1 cued up. Dumpsters today, breaking into your garage and car tomorrow.

Littering - Really?

Just an observation - I'm amazed at the apparent acceptance of throwing trash out one's car window. Maybe it's just timing, but once again yesterday sitting at a stop light along Cicero and the car in front of me opens their window and tosses their trash (papers) out the window.

Is it just me or is that ok here? I moved here from Texas about 3 years ago and although Texas has other issues, it was just not cool to...

I moved here from Texas about 3 years ago and although Texas has other issues, it was just not cool to litter - seriously, in the 30 years I lived there I don't think I ever saw this sort of behavior, yet in the 3 years here I've seen it a half dozen times. There was a long running campaign in Texas - "Don't Mess with Texas" that seemed to really work, as hokey as that sounds. I hear no such message here.

For almost a year we had a guy that would sit in his car late at night along our street, eat takeout food and toss all his leftovers out of the car - I finally waited up and called the police and even after they chased him away he still came back, like it was perfectly acceptable.

I really don't get it?

Looking to Change my job

Hi this is the first time using this, and was wondering if anyone knew of any professionl work place that may be hiring. I currently work for a Food Service company but was looking to change and be closer to home as my commute takes away from home. With two little kids to care for I am finding it difficult to balance work and home. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

  • LinkedIn is good to connect

  • I work at Rivers Casino and they look for people ALL THE TIME who want to work in the food industry. You must go online to apply.....riverscasino.com in Des Plaines, as there is one in Pennsylvania.
Give them my name and you will get an instant interview.....yeah.

Candidates for 39th Ward Alderman

I've been studying the 39th Ward candidates for alderman, and while I am still undecided since anything can happen between now and the election, I have been impressed by Robert Murphy. He seems to have a handle on the issues of the Ward and appears very passionate. I am still open to hearing more from Joe Laiacona and Mary Hunter.

He seems to have a handle on the issues of the Ward and appears very passionate. I am still open to hearing more from Joe Laiacona and Mary Hunter.

If you're interested in knowing - Murphy, Laiacona's and Hunter all have Facebook pages, and Murphy and Laiacona have twitter too. I tried to find a FB page or twitter for Alderman Laurino but I don't think she has either.

If anyone has any thoughts on any of the candidates, I would like to hear any views. You can also private message me if you like.

  • Susan, OId Irving Anna commented in another thread:

    http://chicago.everyblock.com/politics/dec16-39th-ward-alderman-debate-6565538/

"Several community associations are discussing co-sponsoring a debate. Effort is being spearheaded by the Hollywood Park--North Park group. Location would be Northside College Prep auditorium. No firm details yet."

    I look forward to attending,

From reading Kathleen's comment, it confirms that some areas of the 39th Ward receives better treatment than other sections. My area seems to be one of the forgotten areas.

Love Letter from the Garbage Man

A big sticker was placed on our recycle bin today. It was dark outside but I think it's an orange "hazardous waste" sticker with three boxes. None were checked. In black marker they wrote "NO BLACK BAGS".

You can't put black trash bags in the blue bin anymore? No advance notice either?

  • Kathleen Boyle Your dog's best friend! (Taking real estate break)

I thought we weren't supposed to us plastic bags in the blue bins at all, just dump recyclables right into the can.

  • Maureen T. Master Gardener, Landscape Designer

Last week my garbage collector wrote "no plastic bags" in white grease pencil on the top of my blue can. I still collect recyclables in plastic Jewel
bags in the house but I just dump the items in the blue can and recycle the Jewel bags. Not a problem at all.

BIZCamps by Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship

Came across a unique program to inspire high school kids to stay in school by giving them a hands-on learning on how to start a business. A non-for-profit organization can create a full blown program or just a camp. See the links. I would hope that our local high schools and charitable organizations would take a look at this promising opportunity.

Anybody else wish there were decent bike racks at the Grayland Metra stop?

  • Harry Lee Six Corners

I would probably benefit a bit from an Irving Park stop for the MDN line as well (I think it'd be slightly closer to me than the Mayfair station); would also make it a little easier for those from outside the area to get to Six Corners. Christian Education for Less

Just heard about this 50% off tuition voucher program for the "new" students on the radio and wanted to share it with my neighbors. Our family has not used this discounted program, but we have browsed the school choices for Chicago only, which seem to include just the Christian schools. I would like to see the Roman Catholic schools included, as well. This participation could also help them with filling the underutilized capacity. Please spread the word.

http://halfpriceschools.com/?page_id=15

  • robin in WRP misanthrope

since when are Roman Catholics not Christian?

  • Robin, yes, you are right. My post could have been written better. I was merely trying to point out that no Roman Catholic school participates in this particular program, which I found disappointing. Thanks for the finding.
